Little update on the flat peaches and nectarines.
They've been growing well, despite the small pot the tree is planted in. I bought an 100 L container and I'll be moving it there as soon as it goes dormant in late autumn.
Summer Fruit Salad
This Summer Fruit Salad is an explosion of juicy, fresh and sweet fruit at their seasonal best. It is so good and cooling on a hot day, and you can have it at brekkie or in the arvo, however you fancy!
Ingredients (serves 1):
2 large leaves fresh basil
1 flat peach, rinsed
1 nectarine, rinsed
3 small (or 2 large) apricots, rinsed
2 tablespoons elderflower cordial
Chop basil very finely. Add to a small bowl. Pit and dice flat peach and nectarine. Pit and cut apricots into quarters. Add all to the bowl, along with elderflower cordial. Give a good but gentl stir, until well-combined. Chill in the refrigerator, a couple of hours.
Serve Summer Fruit Salad cold, as is or on top of yogurt.
It’s cold out here. The snow’s laying on fast (though Toronto’s well outside the snow belt) and pretty soon we’ll be wading through sub-zero salted slush as the sidewalk snowbanks turn black.... so here’s a sketch of some flat peaches from summer. They were delicious, and I miss them.

My first ever flat peaches.
There're maybe 10 of them in total that survived the late frost we had in April.
No nectarines, blood peaches or apricots this year though.
Ok, we definitely have both flat peaches and flat nectarines on the same tree.
The even better news is that nectarines seem to grow on more than the one branch I initially thought and there're more than two fruits. Roughly half the branches seem to be growing them.
Will try my best to keep this tree alive. It's potted which is not ideal, especially since it's not a small vatiety, but we'll see how it handles it.

The nectarines are significantly smaller than the peaches, but are some of the sweetest nectarines I've ever tasted. They'll be nice for jam if they stay the same in the future.
To be honest I feel relieved they've been picked, I think I've stressed that tree enough this year.
