From my fic Now We Know What We’re Worth from my Julie and the Lifeguards series. I had so much fun writing this one and I particularly loved writing this Flynn dialogue. She really takes the term ride or die to a whole new level… 😉
“That- that pathetic, slimy little weasel!” She sputters in outrage. “Imma kill him! How dare he treat you like that! I mean a break?! Come on! This isn’t Friends! Y’all aren’t Ross and Rachel! Besides, we all know that there’s not actually such a thing as a break! You’re either together or you're not! Ooo imma kill that stupid jock…”
“Woah, hold up, easy there Flynnie!” Julie says placatingly, holding a hand up. Flynn turns to look at Julie, narrowing her eyes.
“What now Jules?! I’ve heard Care out, don’t even think about defending the little worm, just because you used to think he was cute, he deserves to die, he hurt our girl!” Julie rolls her eyes fondly, choosing to ignore the jab at her old crush, knowing it’s just Flynn’s fiercely protective side flaring up and wanting to defend Carrie.
“Trust me Flynn, I have no intentions of defending that jerk. Zero. No one deserves to be treated like that, least of all our Carebear.” She squeezes Carrie’s hand, who offers her a small grateful smile in return. “That being said,” Julie continues, “I don’t think murder is our best course of action here. Care needs us here to support her, not locked up for murder.”
“Who says I’d get locked up?” Flynn challenges. “I don’t plan on getting caught. Like I said before, I know how to hide a body. They’d never be able to pin it on me.” That gets a wet giggle out of Carrie.
“Again, I appreciate your dedication Flynnie, but I don’t need you committing any felonies on my behalf.” She says softly with a small smile. Flynn groans.
“Y’all are such buzzkills. You never let me have any fun.” She huffs with a dramatic pout which coaxes another giggle out of Carrie.
“Fine. If you won’t let me give the twerp the justice he deserves for daring to break your precious heart, I’ll just have to do the next best thing…” Carrie and Julie exchange a dubious look. Flynn snickers and rolls her eyes.
“Oh relax you two jeez. Obviously I was talking about giving Care the best girls night ever!” Julie and Carrie let out twin breathes of relief and burst into giggles at Flynn’s dramatics. Flynn smirks victoriously.
From what will likely be the next installment of my Julie and the Lifeguards series, please enjoy flustered Luke and Rose being both a typical mom and her badass self:
Luke, who had been watching Reggie and Carlos with a fond smile, brightens even more when he sees Julie walk in, followed by Rose and Ray.
“Julie! Hey! Hi! How are you? You look good- I-I mean better. N-not that you looked bad before! I mean you look like you’re feeling better…” Luke trails off awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.
Julie can’t help but giggle at seeing the usually suave frontman so flustered.
“Hi Luke,” she replies with a shy smile. “I’m feeling much better thanks.”
“So this is the famous Luke I’ve heard so much about!” Rose says, stepping forward, a playful twinkle in her eyes. “Don’t worry, all good things,” she adds with a wink. “I hear I have you to thank for keeping my babies safe here at the pool.”
Luke blushes and rubs the back of his neck again while Julie groans.
“No need to thank me, Mrs. Molina, just doing my job.” Luke says bashfully.
“Well you’ve saved both of my niños already this summer, so I definitely think some thanks are in order. And please, call me Rose, Mrs. Molina is my mother,” Rose says, pulling a face.
Ray chuckles and wraps an arm around his wife, pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“Yes, I took her name when we got married,” Ray explains to a puzzled looking Luke. “Not the traditional way of doing things, I know, but it just felt right for us.”
Luke gives a small shrug and grins.
“Hey that’s cool, I can respect that,” he says. He knew Julie’s mom was a great song writer, based on that song Julie performed, and it turns out she’s even cooler in person. There’s also just something about her that seems really familiar, but Luke can’t quite put his finger on what it is.
