I while back I mentioned this AU then didn't touch it again.

Until now!

After playing the soundtrack on loop for a week straight.

So basically, the miracle gift is firebending, granted to Azulon's sons and later their children. All except Zuko.

He tries his best to help out the family despite Azulon's insistence he remain in the background. Zuko keeps up appearance to uphold the family name until cracks form in the magical house during his youngest sister, Kiyi, firebending gift ceremony.

As the cracks spread and bending weakens, Zuko seeks out a solution by searching for his mysterious and infamous Uncle Iroh who disappeared years ago.

The original phrase is ‘Agni’s flaming arsehole’. Nice swearword, has elements of both blasphemy and sex/scatology taboos.

But in a world where the spirits are very real and quite capricious, actually invoking them by name is potentially dangerous and only for the very bold or desperate. So most of the time people just say ‘flaming arsehole’.

Then that gets changed to ‘flaming hole’ for slightly couther company.

And over time and use that becomes elided further to ‘flamin’ ’ole’ and finally ‘flameo’.

Eleven-year-old Kuzon was totally messing with Aang when he taught him that it was a greeting. He knew it was rude, though he probably wasn’t aware of the full etymology.
