Fixedness is a characteristic that inhibits creativity. It is a mental state that some people may not be able to control. It is the inability to manipulate thoughts and the rigidity of viewing things and situations in new ways. Fixedness causes the lack of seeing the possibilities and usefulness of objects beyond their use; it creates a closed mind frame. If people don’t try to think of new things and just stare at problems and materials as they are, they won’t achieve any success in their tasks and lives. Creativity has many definitions, which all include the basic concept of innovative thinking. Fixedness is an obstacle; if it existed in the path of creativity then creativity would fade away. -"You don't drown by falling in the water; you drown by staying there."— Edwin Louis Cole
