Now if you really think about it, what got Will hard during the “five way” wasn’t necessarily him fantasizing having sex with Alana, but the feeling of being in absolute control and dominating within that fantasy.
If heterosexual sex was enough, fantasizing about Alana would’ve been enough to take him all the way. Yet he only really started getting into it when he began fantasizing about Hannibal since he knew he was having relations with Alana. Since Will has a tendency to know and feel what people he empathizes with does at various times during the day, it isn’t surprising that he and Hannibal were having sex at the same exact time.
Although sex with Margot (and the fantasized Alana) began with Will taking the more submissive position, in time, he gradually began taking on the more dominant role by being on top and taking her from behind.
But it isn’t until Will sees the stag man that he really begins to get stimulated. The stag man represents the Chesapeake Ripper and Hannibal’s true identity, but it can also be argued that this is how Will sees himself in the reflection when he sees Hannibal. In that sense, his fantasy of being the stag man in place of Hannibal was what ultimately brought him to orgasm. That feeling of dominance and control and taking what he wanted versus his reality of deep loneliness and lack of real autonomy by being Hannibal’s lure for Jack.
Will has always had some form of envy when it came to Hannibal and his confidence in his control and the freedom that he himself lacks by hiding his true nature. There’s a desire to destroy it and want it at the same time.
