Bread chunkies for the goldfish

The Söll Organix fish food arrived today, and what can I say: I'm excited! I've tried a lot until now, especially since John Lemon is extremely picky with his food, from taste to size: everything matters to him. The Söll foods come in many forms and for many purposes, but I found the ingredients for all products I checked are excellent. I picked out the shrimp sticks and the ingredients are as follows: Whole shrimps, whole salmon, halibut, wheat flour, sablefish, cod, whole herring. From sustainable fishing (see the MSC seal?). And that's it. I now know where my fish's food is coming from, which makes me a happy fish mom! And the smell also needs to be mentioned: it actually smells like edible fish meat, not some undefined mush of... Whatever was used. This clearly is a high quality product. But what does John Lemon the Betta think about all this? He is small and usually eats granules (which would be micro size for Söll, as I now know), and the sticks are too big for Bettas in general. I crushed them up with a flat pair of tweezers, that works quite well. The sticks are quite hard but I did not soak them because otherwise they sink very quickly due to their density. Therefore, Johnny got some nice, bite-sized crumbles he would not struggle with. When he swam up to his feeding ring and tried the first bite, I was prepared he would spit it out and swim away, but nay: Instead his hunting instinct kicked in! He zoomed after the pieces that sank when he ate, and he actually lunged at them. He usually only does this with frozen brine shrimp, so this is the biggest win. In the end, he foraged the ground for the last crumbles, which is rare, too. Usually he doesn't eat sunken dried food. So there we are. I know this kind of reads like an advertisement, but I know how hard it can be to find a solid pellet feed for Germans and their bettas. I myself am trying to avoid parasites a little more, and this seems like a good way to add more safe variety to my fish's diet, though this will most likely even be my new staple because he loved it so much, and because it didn't leave any small rest particles floating around, like frozen food does. I'm already quite interested how he will do on this food long-term and might even purchase another Söll feed for more variety if it goes well. It seems like you can't really go wrong with it.
