1. They only interacted like 4 times. This might be enough for Fire to get a crush, and it would make sense for him to mourn the possibility of a relationship when she died... Except there never was the possibility of a relation, since she’s a medicine cat. Bummer.

2. The HUGE age-gap. Yes, I acknowledge that Spotted was called ‘young and pretty’ in the first book, but this has since been disproven. In fact, in that passage it is said that ‘’Spotted is young and pretty, while Darkstripe is neither’’. 

In reality? Spotted had 2 littermates: Redtail, who had been deputy for a long time, and Willowpelt, who... gave birth to Darkstripe.

Darkstripe is actually Spottedleaf’s nephew, she is older than him.

Also, Spotted was an apprentice when Bluestar was still a warrior, not even a deputy. Bluestar is going grey when Firepaw arrived, so Spottedleaf was likely already middle-aged. You’re shipping a new apprentice (so a teenager) with a middle-aged cat.

3. How weak the story would be. Seriously, a kind cat described as young and pretty meets the MC and BAM, insta-love. Why would people prefer this over a relationship that slowly evolves from mutual dislike to friends to lovers through mutual admiration of each other’s skills and personality?
