“G- Grandma..” The small boy was whimpering softly attempting to hold in the loud cries that he knew he would be scolded for, had he been at home and not at grandma’s. He couldn’t stop the tears from free falling out of his eyes though, as he reached up for her and sat up, his blood stained the ground from the wound on the back of his head.

He was moving, he was talking, he was conscious, the greatest of her fears were averted.  She came to her feet, then bent down to scoop him into her arms--easier for her old bones than to pick him up then get up.  She cradled him in her arms, not at all worried about the blood and tears that were soaking her clothes.  She took off at a dead run, out of the garden and into the street, headed for the home of a healer who practiced from her home.

Azula screamed a moment later, rushing up to him and falling to her knees.  The pain that shot upwards through her body reminded her that she was his grandmother and that age was creeping up on her, but right now her priority was making sure he was all right.

The whole situation was fucked up. He was royalty. He lied to her!( well — not lied so much as excluded that very important fact. The one fact would make the seemingly perfect man horribly wrong for her… and he knew that — he knew how she’d feel about his being the Prince of the Fire Nation, and he kept it from her. )

And she stood, gun pointed at him in the empty street, her hands shaking around the gun.                       And she pulled the trigger.                              The bullet flew to the ground, almost a foot in front of him.

She couldn’t do it. She had ran away from the Red Lotus because their views were extreme and would cause chaos! No — she couldn’t do it.

She had to be better than the Red Lotus. She had to be better than who she used to be.

The gun fell to her feet.

                          “Just — please don’t say anything.”

"No! I’m not blaming you it’s just—" He stopped his rebuttal in its tracks when her words finally processed through his mind. Did she just admit to liking him? It didn’t sound like she meant it in a friend sort of way either. "—Wait. What are you saying?"

"I'm not saying anything -- I just, never mind. Forget it, okay? It's just... it's too hard to be your friend, right now," she said, tilting her chin up slightly as if to prove she was justified in her logic.

         ”I’ve been avoiding you?” Korra asked, her eyes wide and accusatory. "No, no, no — I think you have it wrong. Ever since you started seeing her, you’ve stopped coming around — you’ve stopped calling, not me… but I want to be your friend, Kuzo. I do.”

                 But I’m so tired of broken loyalties & ending up alone.

Azula smiles, and pens a response on a simple handmade card.
