âFeisty.â, he grumbled to himself, absolutely surethat sheâd hear it.
âShellhead.â
âMiss Toothy.â
âIdiot.â
âWitch.â
âAssho-â
âHEY!!â, the voice of Ladybug boomed over the roof asshe came to an abrupt halt next to them, propping her hands up on her hips andglared at them, âI donât believe it. You two are unbelievable! Real insults bynow, for real?â
Carapace grumbled, trying to ignore the fluttering ofbutterflies in his stomach as she spoke up, crossing his arms.
âWell, he started!â
âThatâs so not true!â, he spat back at her, trying toremember the color of Alyaâs eyes as he looked at her again, though he couldonly see Firenaâs.
Chat arrived next to Ladybug and rolled his eyes, resting his forehead on Ladybugâs shoulder momentarily before stepping betweenthen, waving his arms to ask for a time out.
âHey, you two, stop it. Whatâs the problem anyway?â
Firena now, too, crossed her arms but in contrary tohim she looked away arrogantly. Yet again, Carapace asked himself how hecouldâve fallen for her, of all people, while being together with the mostwonderful girl he could ask for. And since she was recently somehow gettingangry at him for every tiny thing, even sometimes his breathing, it was easierto pretend not to like her instead of dreamily staring at her while he knew hisgirlfriend was at home, trusting him to be loyal, he had just gone along withher anger.
If only he knew.
Carapace finally looked away as well, setting astatement just like Firena. But it wasnât really âI donât want to talk to heror any of youâ but more a kind of âI donât know whatâs the current problem andI canât tell you guys Iâm pretending to hate her so I can be loyal to mygirlfriendâ thing.
Either way, Chat groaned and accompanied Ladybug, likea father who was scolding his two children to get along.
âWhatever it is, work it out. We need you twofunctioning as a team, after all weâre protecting Paris here.â
âOr trying toâŠâ, Ladybug muttered. In an instant, thetension shifted and they all held their breath. The last fight had not gone toowell and they all were anxious what would happen if Hawkmoth struck again, justwith an even stronger Akuma.
Suddenly, their little mutual anger issues seemedinsignificant to Carapace so he sighed and turned around, waiting for Firena todo the same. She needed a little more time than him but finally, her shoulderssagged as well and she faced him, offering a hand.
âPeace, Shelly?â, she asked in a defeated voice and hecouldnât shake off this feeling that he somehow had to know her.
âPeace.â, he took her hand with a small smile, âFoxy.â
I love the headcanon that the Miraculous wielders âinheritâ a few traits from their respective animal. That they start to take over some behaviors of their animal in and out of the suit.
Like, Adrien starts throwing things off of tables or shelves without a reason, likes to be curled up and can purr. He also starts chasing laser pointers.
Marinette sometimes just canât help eating a few flowers and spreads pheromones in spring. And she wants to hibernate during winter.
Alya pounces at things. Also she sometimes screams when expressing her love to someone. She also develops a sense for hunting.
Nino wants to join Mari in hibernating over the winter. Also he likes to shut himself off a little when he needs time for himself and gets shy.
Gabriel likes light. That is my only comment because I always cry of laughing when I think about Nathalie checking on Adrien during the night and she finds Gabriel Agreste standing in the hallway, staring at the light above him with wide eyes, unresponsive omg I canât hahahahahahha
â⊠Weâll have our date, then, princess⊠Iâll treat you the red wine, no worries.â
Sorry it's been so long.
(And sorry for everything waiting for the Breeze Sequel, I've had a major motivation problem ever since I finished Breeze)
Anyway, new chapter. I'm trying to wrap this up now, just like Cola Date, to finally get to my new school in two weeks and maybe work on Wind again.
Have fun with this chapter!
Ao3 / FF.net
The journey was surprisingly short, shorter than Marinette had thought.
The faint feeling led her right to a very familiar building and â much to her dismay but also her relief â it wasnât the Agreste Mansion. It wasnât that far off either, though.
The hotel of mayor Bourgeois shone in the streets of Paris, illuminated by all the highlighters he had installed to lift his hotel up above every other.
She almost groaned as she sat perched atop a chimney and glared down to where the faint yellow pointed, rolling her eyes. Firena caught up as the first, kneeling down beside her and baring her fangs so Marinette could see them flashing just in the corner of her eyes as the superhero leant over her shoulder.
âYeah, maybe as a human!â, Alya caved in, âBut I still wouldnât give her a Miraculous. Even if she got past some of her pubertal immaturity sheâs still a spoiled brat and a daddyâs angel. Sheâs become more observant, yes, but not empathetic.â
Marinette merely shrugged helplessly and held onto Firenaâs shoulder to quietly transform back, Pollen sitting down in her opened hand.
âWhatâre you doing?â, Carapace hissed, his hand immediately coming to rest on Marinetteâs back not to have her falling back and off the roof, âTransform back!â
Marinette nodded as she pulled the Bee Miraculous off, briefly giving it to Firena not to drop it.
âIn a moment, yes.â, Tikki floated up beside her and she smiled at her Kwami, âBut something tells me that sheâs more open to let Ladybug inside her room instead of Firena and two unknown superheroes.â
With a red flash Ladybug kneeled in Marinetteâs place and she carefully looked around, checking that Chat hadnât found here yet, then she patted Firenaâs shoulder and looked over to her friends.
âWhat-⊠Excuse me?! Whatâre you doing here? What is going on, Ladybug? Is an Akuma around? And why are these two here? Who are they even?â
Firena already growled at this very cold welcome but Carapaceâs hand on her shoulder soothed her again, making her lean against his chest while Ladybug clarified what had happened today and that she had to help them.
âBut what if it wonâtâŠ?â, he quietly doubted, his hand lightly squeezing hers, âThis-⊠This wonât end well⊠I have a really, really bad feeling, Alya.â
They both perked up at Ladybug calling their superhero names, waving them over. Unfortunately, their short conversation left a bad aftertaste.
âYes. Heâs been corrupted by Hawkmoth, heâs not himself anymore.â
The blonde nodded again, then, after a pause, she looked over to Carapace and Firena. He had an arm around his girlfriend but stepped forward as she addressed him, his hand sliding down Firenaâs arm to interlace their fingers instead.
âMaybe itâd be best to reveal who we are. Maybe itâll give you some security then. And maybe trust.â
At that she regained her old attitude, standing up after the hero to pull her eyebrows up and cross her arms.
âWait a minute. You want to show me who you are? Why? And no offense but doesnât this all seem a little rushed? Also, havenât you considered calling the police?â
âItâs a life and death situation and weâre dealing with magic here. Police would be powerless. Weâre recruiting as many Miraculous wielders as we can find to fight Hawkmoth and free Chat before anything gets destroyed or Hawkmoth succeeds with whatever he plans. So, are you in?â, he held out his hand as a handshake, â⊠Or not?â
â⊠Weâre all scared.â, Firena finally mumbled, resting her hands on Carapaceâs shoulder and biceps, searching for his presence, âWeâre all terrified. I, for one, Iâm ready to collapse in fear. I certainly donât want my boyfriend to join and Iâd rather have it to stay home with my family as well. But this is our time to protect our city, our families, and if itâll be the last we do. Iâd rather die proud than return home a coward and watch Paris burn.â
âThis is your Kwami, Pollen.â, Ladybug introduced them with a little smile, nodding at the yellow bee Kwami, âYou just need to say the magic words and youâll transform. But allow us to introduce us first.â
âAfraid so.â, Nino countered with a humorless smirk, his arm once again sneaking around Alyaâs waist, âSorry to have pulled you into this as well.â
âIâm so sorry!â, she wailed against the confused girlâs shoulder, âIâm so, so sorry! I was so mean to you but you were my idol all along. I didnât even realize-â
Firena and Queen B both ducked behind her bed while Carapace had chosen the cupboard on the wall, folding himself in. Ladybug hid in the doorway to the bathroom, looking around it.
From the dark of the night a pair of animalistic green eyes emerged, seemingly bodiless as Chatâs costume was just as dark as the night sky. All that indicated that he was here was an almost inaudible tapping on the roof as well as the slick movement in the dark, against the faint light of the illuminated streets.
A slow chuckle sounded through the window, causing shivers to run down their spines as they watched Chat sauntering up to the window, as if he didnât give a care for the world, his steps elegant as a catâs and calculatedly relaxed.
â⊠I know youâre here, princessâŠâ, his voice was a whisper as his breath steamed the window, his eyes twinkling in amusement, â⊠Come out to play, hm? How does the Agreste Mansion sound?â
Firena looked back to Ladybug to see her best friend crying violently, her hand pressed over mouth and nose not to make a noise as she listened to her ex-partner.
â⊠Iâll end what Iâve begun tonight, MarinetteâŠâ, her name rolled off his tongue like pearls, seemingly seeping through the windows and clattering all over the floor, â⊠Iâll give you some mercy time. Maybe half an hour to say goodbye to your parents and friends.â
Suddenly, his claws clashed against the window, startling all four superheroes in the room.
âYouâll die with my name on your lips, Marinette, and youâll regret not having been on my side!â, he hollered, his tone trickling with poison, âIâll take you out like a light and all you can do is watch! As I was forced to do, all these years, while you played me like a doll!â
With this, Ladybug sunk to the floor and sobbed on her knees, her arms tightly wrapped around her torso and still not letting a noise escape her. She pressed her head against the wall and prayed, begged that he may go already, leave her alone and stop weaken her like this.
â⊠Weâll have our date, then, princess⊠Iâll treat you the red wine, no worries.â
A cackle echoed through the room and in their heads as Chat finally took his leave, his eyes suddenly vanishing from view and his silhouette jumping away over the roofs, in the direction of the Eiffel Tower. Slowly, the heroes dared moving again, and Firena was the first to be on Ladybugâs side.
â⊠Heâll kill meâŠâ, she whispered, again and again, â⊠Heâll kill meâŠâ
âNot if we can prevent it.â, Carapace growled, his jaw set.
âHave a good season, Mr. Lahiffe!â, the receptionist winked at him as she whispered his name and he laughed, grabbing the copy of his sign up.
âThanks! Oh, by the way, anyone here from the French team already?â, he asked, adjusting his signature red cap. The woman lowered her gaze to the screen and, after scrolling a bit, shook her head.
âNo, I donât see Chat Noir and Firena on the list yet. But La Paonne and Queen B are already here. Oh, and apparently Malachite checked in yesterday already.â
Carapace chuckled and nodded, shouldering his bag again.
âYeaaaah, Iâll see those guys at the party tonight. Thanks anyway, Iâll just wait on my team.â, he let his gaze wander across the people in the room, seeing just a few faces he recognized, âHuh, so many newbies here.â
The receptionist leant back and nodded, sighing a little.
âYeah⊠Was a pain to register them all. But weâre splitting everyone into three equal groups instead of two groups like last year so you probably wonât see most of them on the track. We had so many sign ups this year that the organizers thought about four groups, even.â
Carapace smirked at her and grabbed his helmet from the counter.
âLooks like itâs gonna be a bit full tonight, then. Anyway, nice talking to you, Imma scramble before you tell me Firenaâs real name.â, he added with a wink, already seeing his teammate approaching the building through one of the glass windows. The receptionist giggled and waved as he crossed the room, claiming a table for his stuff to lean against, waiting for his first teammate to register as well.
His eyes followed her curvy form beneath the dull racer suit as she entered through the door and made eye contact with him before winking and turning to the administration counter where he had just left. He rubbed the back of his head and sighed, watching her prop herself up on the counter and shifting her weight.
He definitely had it badâŠ
It didnât take her long to get her papers done and grab her stuff to join him. Just before she reached him he straightened and swallowed, then cleared his throat and tried to sound at least half as cool as he intended to be around her.
âI see we meet again for this season, Firena?â
The young woman chuckled at his words, placing her orange helmet on the table next to his dark green one.
âWhat, you thought Iâd just bail, Shelly?â, she laughed, throwing her flaming hair back behind her shoulder and grinning at him, making his heart leap in his chest. Not that heâd admit that.
âWell, here was hoping.â, he joked, leaning back and trying to look relaxed. She just lifted one of her eyebrows, crossing her arms.
âYou scared of me?â
Carapace laughed at that, quickly shaking his head as Chat Noir came through the door as well.
âEeeeh, nah. Not scared of you. I mean, itâs no secret that youâre one of the best racers out there but I thought Iâd have an easy run this time against all the newbies.â
His friend placed his helmet next to theirs as well and clapped on Firenaâs shoulder, grinning widely.
âHey guys! Nice to see familiar faces around all these fresh starters.â
âHi, Chat! So good to see you, champ!â
Chat Noir grinned as he moved past Firena and tightly hugged Carapace, laughing as he was suddenly lifted up by his best friend.
âMan, your father still not feeding you? I swear I gotta exchange a word or two with this guy. Canât let my boy starve!â
Chat ruffled his hair as he let him down again, shrugging.
âYeah, the old man is a little annoying. But Iâm counting on you guys to keep me alive for the season.â
Firena perked up at this, lifting her finger and waggling it as if Chat had just sparked an idea.
âOh yeah, speaking of! I know the winterâs hard for you so I brought you something as a start. Gotta pull the current champ on my side!â, with that she turned to her bag that she had dropped under the table, not without throwing a wink at Carapace, though. He felt his cheeks warming and Chatâs grin getting broader and definitely a tad too smug so he quickly retorted.
âWell, but heâs my best man! You have to pull him on your side, I already have him!â, he playfully pulled the racer towards him as Firena straightened up again, an opened box with three croissants in her hand.
âOh yeah?â, she smirked, carefully waggling the box, âHow about now?â
Chat shook his head, brushing Carapaces hands off and stepping towards the girl, spinning to reveal that he had taken one of the traitorous bribes.
âSorry bro, but sheâs pretty convincing.â
Carapace dropped to his knees without losing a beat, covering his face with his hands and dramatically cried out.
âOh nooooooo! The witch won! She hath taken my beloved brother and now I stand alone against her dark power!â
Firena giggled at all the glances he attracted like a magnet and then shrugged.
âWell, you can have one if you want.â
With a jump Carapace was on his feet again, smiling down to her and rubbed his hands together.
âUuuuuh, she has defeated me! Nice! Thank you so much!â
He grabbed one croissant and bit into it, then nodded towards the door.
âHey look! She has a cool helmet!â, he stated, prompting his two friends to turn around and take a look as well. A small girl entered the room, clad in the same dark blue racing suit as the three of them. Her helmet had a radiant red with black spots on it and her belt showed that she was from France just like them.
The girl looked around for a moment, then turned to the administration counter a little to the side from the entrance. Firena hoisted herself up on the table to sit there and caught Carapaceâs gaze, grinning.
âNew teammate! Cool! I read her nameâs Ladybug, kinda fitting for the helmet.â
âI think she fitted the helmet on her name.â, Carapace shot back, then looked at his friend who was still observing the girl, âWhat do you think, bro?â
Chat Noir didnât move, didnât even react as Carapace looked at him expectantly. Not even as he called him by his name he got any kind of indication that he was listening until Firena jabbed her elbow in his side.
The young man coughed and stumbled a step to the side before breaking his gaze away from the new girl and indignantly staring down his friends.
âWhat is it?â, he grumbled and Carapace smirked.
âYou seem awfully interested just by looking at her, man.â
Chat shrugged nonchalantly, before biting into his croissant.
âWell, sheâll be a teammate so yeah, Iâm-⊠Uh, watching.â
âYou were totally checking her out.â, Firena commented dryly, shrugging, âTotally checking her out. Bummer, though, that her suit is a little too big, kinda conceals her figure. But as it looks she has a cute butt.â
Carapace suddenly breathed in a tiny crumb and began coughing, earning an amused look from his female teammate. As he was finished with his coughing fit and straightened up again with a red face, the girl with the Ladybug helmet turned around with a small stack of paper in her hand. She looked a little lost and took a few steps away from the counter to allow other newcomers to register themselves but obviously didnât know where to go. Her eyes searched the crowd and Firena and Carapace caught her gaze, simultaneously lifting their hands to attract her attention. Her gaze flickered down to their belts and she recognized their flag, then her face brightened up in relief.
She shouldered her bag on the other shoulder and made her way towards them, skillfully avoiding other racers who were gathering around until she arrived at their small group, smiling shyly.
âUhm-⊠Hi! Iâm new, and uh-âŠâ
Firena jumped from the table and stretched her hand out after Ladybug had dropped her bag, grinning as the smaller girl took it.
âHi, Iâm Firena and these dorks behind me are Carapace and Chat. Weâre the French team, welcome to our little circle!â
Carapace was the next to shake her hand. He had to nudge Chat to do so, too, but it didnât seem to faze Ladybug that Chat was shamelessly staring. Maybe she was just too distracted to notice since she already focused on Firena again.
âSo, uh-⊠You really only use your cover names?â
The taller girl nodded and shrugged.
âYeah, easier like that. I mean, itâs just easier to keep it like that. And itâs kinda fun to keep the role. So! What made you think of the name Ladybug?â
The girl in question smiled and blushed a little, changing the position of her helmet on her shoulder self-consciously.
âI dunno⊠I think I just thought Iâd need the luck.â
Carapace chuckled, reaching forward to knock against her helmet, then he pointed back at Chat who was still somehow out of order.
âYeah, youâll probably need that, like all of us. This here is the current world champion Chat Noir, he won the last season.â
Immediately, Ladybugâs attention was drawn to the so unusually tongue-tied Chat, her jaw dropping and her eyes getting wider.
âOh my god⊠So it really is you! I-⊠Oh my god Iâm so sorry I thought I wouldnât meet you here but uh-âŠâ
Firena giggled, dramatically grabbing her throat and speaking in a rough voice.
âOh, oh no, I need water! Shelly, help me to the vending machine!â
He was about to roll his eyes and remark that Chat and Ladybug certainly didnât need Firenaâs plump attempts at making them talk after theyâve just known each other for barely a few minutes as she already pulled him away. Admittedly, he felt his heart fluttering but that wasnât topic right now.
âWow, what a subtle exit.â, he leant against the vending machine as his teammate grumbled, crossing her arms and obviously not buying something to drink as Ladybug briefly looked after them before turning back to Chat Noir who had miraculously just begun speaking.
âIt was meant to be so obvious, dork.â, she huffed and leant on the other side of the glass door, looking at him intensely. Then she whispered, âDonât you see they have chemistry going on?â
âOh yeah, Chat seemed different during the first few seconds of meeting her for the first time.â, he commented pointedly, then he lifted his eyebrows as her gaze didnât leave him, âAnything in my face?â
She nodded, turning to him and stepping closer, her hand coming up to allow her fingertips to brush over his cheek.
âStubble.â, she whispered, âYouâre becoming a man, Shelly!â
He ignored his blush and his rapidly beating heart as he playfully swatted her hand away, laughing.
âYeah, I gotta shave again, thank you very much for reminding me.â
She giggled as she turned her back to the blooming conversation of their teammates, searching for a few coins in her pockets to really buy something now. He wordlessly handed her two Euros as he eyed his best friend with squinted eyes, tilting his head.
âThink Chat really acted weirdly when he saw her? I mean-⊠I never saw him blushing but he is right now and theyâve only known each other for barely a few minutes.â
Firena shot a lazy look over her shoulder, then shrugged as she pulled herself his favorite drink.
âI dunno. Chat gets pretty easily flustered. If you actually got down on the dance floor on parties and didnât just stand on the mixing table the entire time youâd see how easily he gets all blush-y and stutter-y around pretty women.â
Carapace rolled his eyes and sighed, then nodded as he accepted the juice after Firena had already taken a few sips.
âProbably, I dunno. Itâs just that Iâve never seen him like this. Thatâs all.â

This is a little gift that I wrote for my good friend @lily-codie19. It was her idea, so have an angsty midair transformation prompt ;)
Ao3 / FF.net
The first thing Nino felt when being airborne was a very uncomfortable tug on his stomach and that his feet suddenly lost the floor. The world spun around him too fast to see anything but the change between blue sky and grey ground. He couldnât even scream because his voice was caught in his throat. It had all happened too fast.
At one moment he had stood on the highest platform of the Eiffel Tower, watching his friends trying to calm the Akuma who had taken him hostage.
Nino had â admittedly â merely rolled his eyes. He was Carapace, an Akuma holding him hostage didnât freak him out. He had been annoyed, at most, that he had been stuck there in his civilian form, unable to help his friends.
Though, as the Akuma had blasted away the railing behind him and had taken Nino to the edge with him he had gotten scared. He knew he could transform at any time if the Akuma shoved him but would it be enough time before he would hit the ground?
And how would he explain to his teammates that Nino had survived while he was nowhere to be found? How would he lie to them to protect his secret identity?
He had finally began struggling as the Akuma had held him on his neck, just the tips of his sneakers still on the metal platform of the tower. Firena had begun screaming but was being held back by Ladybug while Chat heatedly discussed a plan with her. Queen B hadnât shown up yet, she couldâve saved him in an instant because she was able to fly.
And then suddenly, everything had begun getting out of control. The Akuma had turned to him, had placed his hand on his chest and had grinned. Firena had cried out, Ladybug and Chat had surged forward but before anyone had been able to get to him the world had begun spinning.
As his body was played with by the air he barely realized he had been thrown. He didnât fall off the Eiffel Tower, no, he flew through the air horizontally. Everything was too fast, his chest hurt and he didnât know where anything was. A quick glimpse of the Eiffel Tower at some point told him he was far gone already.
The Tower was merely a stick against the blue as far as Nino had seen. His feet felt so heavy as he continued spinning and his head felt as if someone had placed a giant rock on his cheeks. He gulped, unable to breathe in, to scream, to do anything.
Until he felt a sharp pinch on his leg.
Wayzz.
Nino tried to get his thoughts together, tried closing his eyes but that was worse. He opened the widely again, seeing that he now spun slower. He could try to stabilize again and concentrate on talking. Like sky diving. He had never done that but he was a superhero, he should be able to do it.
So he concentrated, tried to find a point where he could find the air slashing against him. The direction in which he flew. Since he still spun around his whole body he needed to tense his muscles accordingly. Wasnât there something about cats using their tail to turn in midair?
Damn, where was Chat when he needed himâŠ
He found the air stream, finally, and adjusted his body so he could slowly begin to stop the spinning. By tensing and relaxing his muscles he managed to spin slower, use his back as a shield. He now fell backwards, the shadow of wind on his face enabling him to force out the desperate words.
âWayzz, shields up!â
The wind grabbed his words and blew them away as he felt how gravity took a hold of him again, making the angle to the floor higher. He felt himself falling more towards the ground now than he had flown before and as he turned his head he saw the buildings quickly closing in.
âWayzz⊠Wa-⊠Wayzz-⊠Shields-âŠâ, he choked, fear blocking his throat. The Kwami couldnât hear him. The buildings came closer and closer, faster than he had imagined. Now he passed the roofs. Luckily for him he aimed at a street.
The people started looking up but he couldnât hear their screams over the strong wind in his ear.
In a last desperate attempt not to die he curled himself up, starting to spin again. Then he yelled at his pocket.
âWAYZZ, SHIELDS UP!!â
A flash of green shone behind his eyelids and the familiar feeling of the suit building up around his body washed over him. His hands were coated with gloves, his chest protected with armor, his back covered with plates-
His head snapped back as he hit the ground.
The asphalt partly gave way under his indestructible suit but partly still stayed unmoving. He felt his body slamming down on the concrete, then flipping and sliding further. The angle in which he had hit the ground had been flat enough to not pancake him into the ground but rather let him flip like a rock on a frozen lake. He just didnât know which he wouldâve preferred.
The street ended after some time and he was thrown against a house wall, his body finally coming to a halt.
He fell to the floor with loose limps and slack muscles, his shoulder and hips hitting hard on the sidewalk. His head mostly landed on his arm but he still felt the hard impact.
His mind was dangerously close to shutting down but he willed himself to get up, to get to his knees at least. His body wouldnât move, wouldnât even give the slightest attempt as people started gathering around him, rolling him onto his back.
He groaned and whimpered as his bones were moving, as his body was straightened out. People were calling for help, were attempting to call an ambulance but he shook his head, finding back to his conscious. His transformation and Wayzzâ energy helped massively keeping him in the game, but he knew heâd pass out and need medical attention in the second he detransformed.
âMonsieur, Monsieur Carapace! You need an ambulance!â
He sat up with the help of a few people and numbly shook his head, testing his toes and fingers. Then he went up to ankles and wrists, knees and elbows, until he could roll his shoulders with a pained hiss.
He got a few helping hands as he leant forward, getting out of his sitting position to kneel.
âI-⊠Iâm okay⊠Iâm good⊠N-No ambulance, Iâm-⊠F-FineâŠâ, he mumbled before getting straightened up by the civilians, thanking them with a slight nod.
As he felt the ground beneath his feet again he sighed in relief, shaking his shoulders out and patting on his chest.
âI just-⊠Need to-⊠Breathe⊠Thatâs all⊠No ambulance, please, Iâll-âŠâ
âCarapace, what happened?!â
âMonsieur, Monsieur, donât stand up!â
âHere, Iâll hold you, Iâll hold you up-â
âPlease, you need an-â
âLeave him alone!â
âDonât you see heâs-â
âBut what if-â
âWhere-â
He squinted his eyes as the voices now slowly sounded through his numbness and the blood rushing in his ears. At least ten hands on his back, sides and shoulders held him up and he swayed but as soon as his brain had a little more oxygen again he shook his head, getting his concentration back.
âPeople, pleaseâŠâ, he tried and a man next to him straightened up.
âHe wants to say something!â
Everyone listened up and they turned their heads to him as he parted himself from all the supporting hands.
âDonât-⊠Donât worry, Iâm okay⊠I had the suit. No ambulance.â
âBut Monsieur, you need to get checked, youâre obviously-â
âIâm fine.â, he smiled at the panicking woman with a phone, âOr wait, no, call an ambulance, please. Iâm sure a lot of people here are shocked.â
Her eyes wandered around and she slowly nodded, then turned back to him.
âWhat about you, Carapace?â
He gave her a strained grin and put a hand on his side, nodding at her.
âDonât worry, Iâll survive. Iâm a hero, that happens daily.â, he lied, relieved as her gaze got softer.
âAlright. But please get yourself checked up as soon as you can. We donât want to lose you.â
He merely chuckled, nodding as he once again straightened his body, already feeling better as his system got used to being still again. His brain was balanced now that he could breathe again and even though his chest hurt he felt okay enough to join his teammates.
Not necessarily fight but at least tell them Nino would be okay.
He thanked all the people who had cared for him and stayed until the ambulance arrived to be as fit as he could with a few more minutes of a break, then he grabbed his shield and jumped onto the next rooftop, running and jumping and gliding on his shield towards the city center again.
When he arrived the team already was in the middle of fighting the Akuma.
Well⊠Three out of five. Ladybug, Chat Noir and-⊠Queen B? Where was Firena?
âHey, uh-â
âCARAPACE!!â, even though they all looked like they wanted to kill him right now they all looked at least a bit relieved to see him but still concentrated on taking down the Akuma. It pretty much looked like they had everything under control, her gladly noted, so he wouldnât have to give his all. But before he could even analyze where his place on the battlefield was, Queen B came jumping to him, a concerned expression on her face.
âListen, Cara, we can take the Akuma, no problem. You might not have heard it yet but a boy died today⊠Uhm, if you could go see Firena? Sheâs kinda upset and weâre all caught up in the fight.â
He gave her a puzzled look, then nodded slowly.
âUhm-⊠Yes, of course. Where is she?â
âStill on top of the Eiffel Tower. We kinda-⊠Well⊠We had to tie her up there. We didnât want her to see how the boy must-âŠâ, she broke off as Carapace nodded again, quicker this time to interrupt her.
âYes, clear. Iâll care for her.â
Queen B gave him a brief salute and surged into the fight again while he fought his own by trying to keep his mind together. But he managed to concentrate until he set foot on the metal platform of the Eiffel Tower, where he had been in his civilian form mere minutes ago. The busted off railing gave him a weird feeling in his stomach but his gaze was immediately drawn to the sunken together girl that was tied to one of the poles on the inner construction of the Tower. She sobbed, her ears flatly laying on her head. Carapace gulped.
Yes, they had met a few times in his civilian form. She had visited him twice or so, on a lonely evening. So why was she so upset now?
âFirena?â, he carefully approached her, his steps soft and soothing as he got closer to her, âWhat-⊠Whatâs up?â
She looked up, her nose running and her eyes reddened and swollen from all the crying. Her arm was outstretched because she sat as far from where their teammates had tied her to the building, creating a heartbreaking picture of how desperate she was to get away. With a second gaze he recognized Ladybugâs yoyo. Of course, something had to hold her here that she couldnât break.
If that meant that Ladybug was giving up her weapon to fight then it mustâve been urgent to keep Firena here.
He knew Ladybug and Firena knew each otherâs identities, as the only ones out of their group, but he didnât know if that had anything to do with keeping her here.
âRena, hey, whatâs-â
âWhy are you here?! Whatâre you doing here now?!â, she immediately snapped, her voice already hoarse and broken from crying. She once again tugged on the yoyo but it wouldnât come free, âYou werenât here! You couldâve saved him! We-⊠We couldâve saved himâŠâ
She once again subsided to her sobs, lowering her head. Her body language said more than obviously that he shouldnât come closer. Her ears were flattened down to her hair and her tail was wrapped around herself but he couldnât help it. He kneeled down and tightly hugged her.
Out of the first animalistic instinct that all of the heroes had transferred to their behavior to some degrees she bit him. He felt her two sharp fangs sink into his suit on his shoulder, with her and Chatâs claws and fangs the only thing except weapons that could cut through the material. He clenched his teeth as she only tightened her bite but then let go of him to bury her forehead on his shoulder, sobbing heartbreakingly. He held her close and felt her tail lashing to the side only to include him in the hug. He was now officially allowed to touch her so he nuzzled her ear, bringing his face deeper into her fluffy hair. Her ponytail had come loose, probably from fighting (against their teammates?) and thus she wore it open.
âItâs gonna be okay, Firena⊠Itâs gonna be okayâŠâ, with a short glance he assured himself that they were alone. Obviously, the highest platform had been blocked by the police because of the Akuma attack, âItâs gonna be okay, FirenaâŠâ
âN-N-Nothing-⊠Nothingâs gonna-⊠B-Be okay-âŠâ, she sobbed against his chest plates, her hands weakly pounding on his arms, â⊠H-He-⊠H-Heâs d-dead n-now and heâs m-m-my b-boyfriend and I j-just w-w-want him b-back and-â
Carapace couldnât hear the following rambling. His eyes shot widely open and he grabbed her shoulders, staring into her eyes.
âHeâs your boyfriend?!â, he asked unbelievingly, the blood uncomfortably rushing in his ears again. Bad reminder.
âY-Yes-⊠H-H-He was my b-boyfriend and-⊠I k-know he w-w-wanted to p-propo-ose to me and I j-just want him b-b-back b-because I c-canât imagine a life w-without himâŠâ
His eyes went even wider and he gulped, cupping her face. He knew she spoke of Nino Lahiffe, of himself in civilian form. He knew he had a girlfriend. One girlfriend.
âHow in the hell did you find the ring in my nightstand?!â, he busted out, terrified. He had hidden it so well! Well, that was probably a part of being the partner of a journalist. Slash superhero, he reminded himself.
As she looked up he didnât even let her have the time to process what he had said. With a green flash he detransformed, his golden eyes clashing with hers before he squinted them, pressing his lips against hers.
He had never been so glad to have her figure out one of his secrets, honestly. Or two, now.
Even if he lost his consciousness about .2 seconds later.
He first thing that shot through Alyaâs mind was âdamnitâ.
The second âHow to delete the memories of the last five minutes out of your boyfriendâs mind?â.
The orange flash rushed up her body, unstoppable and she felt the familiar weight of her fox ears appearing at the top of her head.
Ninoâs eyes widened even more, more than she had ever thought oneâs eyes would allow to open.
Her transformation ended with a last flash and she held Ninoâs shocked gaze, her eyes just flickering to the side for one brief second before flitting back to him. Searching for an emergency escape way.
She gulped as he continued not to say anything, obviously still shocked.
âUh-⊠NinoâŠ?â
He remained still and motionless, his mouth open and his eyes unblinking.
âHey, Nino? Uhm-⊠How about-⊠We forget this all an-â
She couldnât even finish her sentence as Ninoâs eyes already rolled up and his body went slack, making him faceplant on the floor right in front of her.
âUhâŠâ, she intelligently commented, then she kneeled down beside him, âShit, shit! Nino?â
Nino stayed unconscious as she rolled him on his back, lightly slapping his bruised and scratched open cheek from hitting the ground.
âOh câmon, you canât be seriousâŠâ
Another explosion from the Akuma let her recoil, then she rolled her eyes and groaned. She had to go. She just had to drop him off somewhere safeâŠ
One Nino tucked into her bed later she joined her friends at the Akuma attack. Queen B was already on it to make a snippy comment on how late she was but Firena gestured for her to stop before even a sound came from her.
âMy boyfriend just found out about me and he hurt himself on top of falling unconscious from shock. Spare me, please.â
Queen B shut her mouth and Firena sighed in relief as Ladybug came over, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
âIs he okay?â, she gently asked while Chat kept the Akuma busy.
âI donât know, honestly.â, she admitted, a weird feeling pooling in her stomach, âI just-⊠I brought him to my home. Letâs finish this Akuma fast so I can get back to him?â
After the fight Firena silently slipped through her window into her room, her transformation dropping the second she set foot on the floor. Trixx shot out of her necklace and immediately jumped on the prepared bowl of carrot pieces, already gulping down the first without even chewing as Alya snuck to her bed.
Nino laid in a slightly different position as she had dropped him off here, he had rolled to his side. That was a good sign, Alya supposed.
He breathed calmly and evenly by now, his eyes moving behind his closed eyelids and crooked glasses. She carefully took his glasses off and put them on her nightstand, then she sat down on the edge of the bed, beginning to brush over his face. One of his cheeks had turned blue and he had scratches over that side of the face as well. She could speak of luck that his glasses hadnât shattered at the impact.
He mustâve recovered his senses again and then fallen asleep here because he wasnât unconscious anymore. Alya lightly snorted, leaning down to kiss his temple and nuzzling her nose against his cheek. He was warm and a little bit stubbly, comfortably scratching her nose. She hummed and leaned in a little more until she finally laid beside him, her nose pressed against his cheek and her arms tightly wound around him.
âIâm so sorry, NinoâŠâ, she murmured, lightly nudging him, âSorryâŠâ
She remained like this, tightly holding him, until she was about to fall asleep as well, but just then, he woke up.
When his breath began becoming a little uneven she had the first hint that he was waking up. Unwillingly, she parted from him but his hand on her waist held her back, keeping her close.
His eyes fluttered then, only to close again and move his head a little, his lips pressing against her forehead.
âKicked the Akumaâs butt?â
She giggled, hugging him firmly and intertwining their legs.
âYeah⊠We kicked that Akumaâs butt and we did good.â
âGood.â, he sighed, his lips not ever parting from her skin. She closed her eyes and sighed, steadying his head with her hand in his hair, leaning her forehead against his kiss.
âYou gonna be okay?â, she asked, referring to his mental and physical state. He merely chuckled, shrugging a little.
âWell, my face will heal. Thanks for catching me, by the way.â
âWait but I didnât-âŠâ, only then she felt how his lips stretched to a smile and that he had spoken with a smug undertone, â⊠Oh, you idiotâŠâ
A little hurried, I know.
But next chapter is gonna be action, hoooooo I promise
Enjoy~

Just as she had thought Ninoâs eyes couldnât get any wider he proved her wrong.
She gave him an apologetic smile and left it to Alya to explain and introduce him to Wayzz while she handed her the bag with the Miraculous. Marinette carefully set it down on the floor, getting out the box while Nino and Alya spoke in hushed voices to each other. The two remaining Kwamis settled down on her shoulder and watched her as she took the last one of the guardians, the Bee, out of its place. She sighed as she turned the hairclip in her hands, lightly shaking her head.
How was she supposed to be the leader here?
Of course, having worked with Chat Noir and being a role model for the whole of Paris had taught her a thing or two in keeping her head in the game but leading a team of unexperienced superheroes?
She couldnât exactly be a leader to them. An example, sure, but a leader?
Behind her, Alyaâs voice got muffled and as she turned, she saw Nino hugging his girlfriend tightly while Wayzz sat on his arm.
She nodded at him as she saw Alyaâs shoulders shaking, then turned to her Kwami.
âWhat about the Zodiacs?â
âYou wanna activate them as well?â
For a second, Marinette considered it. Having an army to help her. Or, well, not an army but at least a group so big that Hawkmoth could just give up like this. For a second, she was about to say yes, then she shook her head and gently pushed the box closed again.
âNo. Itâd be too many people in danger and itâd take too long. We donât even know if the Bee has a chosen right now and searching for just one Zodiac chosen could take us the time we need to save Chat. We canât even risk the Bee, really, but I have a feeling that we need the whole group togetherâŠâ, she sighed, sitting back and slumping, âI mean⊠I dunno. It just seems like-âŠâ
âThatâs a good idea, Marinette. Iâm sure, the Bee will be out there.â
The girl nuzzled her Kwami gratefully, then stood up with the box in her hands, facing Nino. He understood and gently parted from Alya, giving her another kiss on her forehead before focusing on Marinette.
She took the box with the Miraculous under one arm and shared a gaze with Wayzz, then she brushed the Turtle bracelet off her wrist. It glowed softly as it left her arm and got closer to its chosen.
âNino, Iâm entrusting you with this Miraculous. Youâre the chosen wielder and with the Turtle comes a lot of responsibility. The Turtle is the guardian Miraculous because it represents steadiness. It is constantly activated and thus, you will watch over the Miraculous as well as probably live past us all to pass the Turtle as well as the other Miraculous on to another successor. Do you understand that?â
The boy slowly nodded as Alya pressed her hand to her lips, looking away.
Nino reached forward and touched the Turtle bracelet, the glow getting brighter. He slipped it on his wrist and breathed through as the weight of the responsibility rested on his shoulders.
As soon as he had fastened the bracelet to keep it tight on his arm, his chest began glowing.
Alya and Marinette both took a step back as he yelped, touching his shirt.
âWh-Wha-â, he exclaimed, terrified at the light emitting from him that only became brighter.
âYour body is accepting the Miraculous.â, Wayzz calming explained, staying on Ninoâs arm, âYour lifespan is extending. Itâll only take a second.â
Nino gulped and looked up to meet the gaze of the girls again, nodding as the light dimmed down again.
âAlrightâŠ?â, he replied, unsure of what to make of this. Finally, as the light was gone again he swayed but stayed standing.
âNino?â, Marinette carefully asked, and he nodded, signaling he was fine. Only then she continued, holding the box of the Miraculous up, âHere are the Miraculous that are now under your protection. The two key Miraculous which are given to Chat Noir and me, the five guardian of which the Butterfly and the Peacock are lost to Hawkmoth and the Fox and the Turtle which are given to Alya and you.â
Nino slowly took the box, cradling it close to his chest.
âI took the Bee out since I can easily transform with a lower Miraculous than mine. I plan on getting the last wielder so we can have a chance. Is that okay with you?â
âUhm⊠Sure?â
She nodded, placing the hairclip just above her pigtail. It glowed briefly and a tiny Kwami shot out, falling in her shoulder. She carefully took the groggy goddess and lightly brushed over her head, giving her time to wake up.
âGood. The rest are twelve Zodiac Miraculous. They represent the twelve Zodiac animals of the Chinese mythology. You got that?â
He nodded again so she smiled at him, now focusing on the tiny Bee Kwami in her hand.
âHey, hi. Iâm Marinette, chosen of the Ladybug Miraculous.â
The Kwami blinked at her, then smiled and slowly began floating.
âHi.â, she replied in a high-pitched voice, floating a little higher so that Marinette could talk to her on one level, âIâm Pollen. Nice to meet you!â
While Marinette briefly explained the situation to Pollen, Nino set the box of the Miraculous down on his bed and turned to Alya, breathing through.
âHey, Alya?â
He caught her gaze by stepping to her and cupping her face, lightly brushing away the tears that were still spilling.
âI-Iâm sorry Iâm so-â, she began but he shook his head, softly pressing his lips to her forehead and closing his eyes. After a few moments he mumbled against her skin, feeling her arms hesitantly wrapping around his waist.
âDonât worry about a thing⊠I know what Iâm getting myself into, I kinda just-⊠Have it in me.â, he slowly wrapped his arms around her neck now, still talking against her forehead. Her breath brushed over his neck as she leant against him, âIâll keep you safe, promise.â
âIâm not scared about myself.â, she tried retorting but he just chuckled humorlessly.
âYouâre scared of losing me. As am I. But Alya, weâll get through this. We need to save Chat. Weâre heroes now.â
She snorted tearfully, tilting her head to the side and away from his lips to rets it in the crook of his neck to be closer. He held her gently, his hand brushing patterns over her back.
âItâs okay, Al. Weâll be okay.â
She still tried getting closer, her hands now meeting behind his back and brushing past the other to rest crossed around him, one of her hands holding onto her other wrist.
His response was to tighten his embrace, watching Marinette talking to Pollen while always sending side glances to the window.
âTen bucks says Adrienâs gonna be the Bee?â, he asked, half joking. Alya began giggling in his arms before being interrupted by an involuntary sob.
âI dunno⊠Think it could be Adrien?â
Nino shrugged softly, not wanting to move too much for her.
âWell, blonde hair? Maybe, yeah. And the Squad would be complete then. But I really hope it isnât him, that boy has a thing for Ladybug and his flirting will not be pretty if he knows Ladybug is Marinette.â
Alya sighed, shaking her head.
âAnd Marinette would be a mess if she knew Adrien was crushing on LadybugâŠâ, she added under her breath, causing Nino to tiredly smile.
âYeahâŠâ
The girl leant back, catching his gaze. He tried widening his smile for her to encourage her but he found himself unable to. The shadow of this night was too dark and heavy to try and lie.
She leant forward, once again pressing her lips against his in a slow, desperate way, trying to forget about everything around them as one of her hands slipped up into his hair, pulling him closer against her.
â⊠I love youâŠâ, she whispered against his lips, again and again, as if her words could keep the night from happening, âI love you, I love youâŠâ
He felt his fists once again clenching into her shirt, trying to keep them from shaking, trying to keep her from feeling his nervousness. He didnât reply.
Only after a few moments Marinette broke them apart again. Her eyes were clouded and heavy as she shrugged humorlessly, burying her hands in her pockets as Trixx joined Wayzz on the desk to pull him up.
âGuys, we gotta find out if thereâs a Bee⊠Iâm sorry to interrupt you like that but, well, we got a friend to save.â
They both nodded, blushing at the embarrassment of having lost themselves again, then they both straightened up. Alya made the first move by transforming again, momentarily lighting up the room in an orange light, then she nodded at Nino. He spoke the words he got from Wayzz and followed her with a bright green flash, the suit and armor complete with shield appearing on him.
Marinette saw Alya biting her lip and turning away as she saw her boyfriend like this, suppressing a slight smile.
Finally, she sighed and nodded at Pollen, closing her eyes after the second transformation in this room.
âPollen, stripes on!â, she whispered, feeling the unfamiliar yellow flash travelling up her body until the magic faded, only leaving her, Firena, her Kwami and the addition to their team in the room. She opened her eyes again, not even bothering to send more than a short gaze down her body.
She apparently wore the same suit that she had as Ladybug, skin tight and without alterations. It was yellow and had black boot and gloves as well as stripe patterns. To her hip she had strapped a spinning top, otherwise there was nothing else.
As she looked up, she caught the gaze of the new guardian.
âSo, already got a name?â, she asked, smiling.
He didnât give it much thought. Apparently, it was as easy as Chat had had it all those years ago to him.
âCarapace, I think. I like that name.â
Firena grinned and stood on her tiptoes to place a peck on his lips.
âI like it, too.â, she murmured, already tempted to lose herself in the kiss but Marinette cleared her throat.
âWell then, we gotta get going. Tikki, does this work the same as the Turtle?â
Her Kwami nodded but then shrugged, looking uncertain.
âWell, it should. But, you know, thereâs the possibility that we wonât find a Bee wielder. After all they could either be five and thus too young or they could be over in Scandinavia or America orr⊠Well, thereâs many possibilities. So, if you donât feel anything we should move on without the Bee.â
Marinette nodded, already closing her eyes.
âAlright, letâs seeâŠâ, she let go of all thoughts, all concentration and just focused on the Bee Miraculous, on the magic surging through her and-⊠There!
She gasped as she felt a tug, pulling her to the window.
âI think I got a feeling that theyâre here in Paris. It could be that we can build up the team on four! Letâs go!â
Carapace hurriedly hid the box beneath his bed, then he followed the two girls outside, Marinette with the Bee already on the next rooftop while Firena waited for him, crouching on the windowsill outside.
âYou good?â, she asked, pulling up her eyebrows beneath her mask.
âYeah.â, he replied, doing his best to let his voice sound firm and steady, âAnd I just, uh-⊠Jump?â
She nodded, taking his hand.
âWeâll do the first one together. Then it should be instinctual for you. Ready?â
He clumsily climbed up to her, closing his window behind them.
âAlright, Iâll tryâŠâ, he murmured, his grip on her hand tightening. She lightly yelped and he loosened his grip, not used to the new strength the suit provided for him, âSorry, sorryâŠâ
She waved it off, then concentrated on Marinette on the roof across from them.
âSee Mari there? Weâll jump on the count of three.â
He gulped and straightened up with her, his fingers interlacing with hers.
âA-Alright, we can do that.â
âOne⊠Three!â, she suddenly exclaimed, jumping and pulling him with her. Out of reflex he immediately jumped with her, startled by how high he suddenly was. The ground left his feet and he flew, the roof from across coming towards him.
Within a second, it was over and he securely landed on his feet, running a few steps to get the speed from the jump off.
âWh-⊠What the hell, woman! Can you even count?!â, he stuttered, bewildered at her mischievous grin.
âI know you. You wouldâve chickened out. And now you stand here.â
He grumbled as she crossed her arms, suddenly looking overly smug. But just as a smile snuck on his lips, Marinette once again interrupted them, this time sounding urgently.
âI just spotted Chat Noir heading this way, I donât think he spotted us yet. Run!â
Immediately, all three of them dashed past windows and chimneys, over the roofs, until they could hide behind a wall to see where the black figure against the dark sky was heading.
The chesire hero landed on the same windowsill but since Ninoâs room was dark he growled and jumped off, running back the same way he had come here. And for a split second, Marinette could see that his hand was clenched.
She gasped as he was out of sight, turning away from the edge of the wall to start pacing over the roof, squinting her eyes. Only after a few moments Carapaceâs voice sounded through to her.
â⊠-tâs wrong?â, he asked.
Marinette breathed through, trying to control her panic.
âI think Hawkmoth sent Chat Noir to choose a Peacock. Itâs just an assumption since the Peacock can also be lost somewhere but it could be that Hawkmoth has it.â
âWhich means weâre not the only ones trying to build up a team.â
âBut why did he come to my room?â, Nino interjected, âI mean, Iâm not a Peacock chosen and Alya told me you found me through tracking.â
âPlagg is trapped inside the ring.â, Tikki explained, tightly holding onto Marinetteâs shoulder, âSo he canât transform with the Peacock. I assume heâs just following it this way, meaning he can track magical hints but not use the much more effective track Marinette is using.â
They all remained silent for a moment before Marinette spoke up with a shaking voice.
âThat means he can feel the magical hint to the chosen Bee, too, if he already searched for Nino.â
They all shared a gaze before breaking into a sprint after Marinetteâs tugging feeling.
