Closed Eyes
A foggy morning,
A stray vernal vapor
Hovering over a field;
Obscuring the scene behind.
With a condensed life,
Only long enough
To disappear
with the dew.
Isolated and morphing.
An imperfect shroud,
Snowing at midnight.
The stillness of night;
The streets muted by it.
Illuminated by clean, new snow.
As the flakes land,
They make a quiet,
Quivering “shh” sound.
A perfect marriage
Of shadows and brilliance,
Of silence and whispers.
A dense Autumn forest; sunset.
The last rays of daylight
Leak through.
Disappear into leaves
Covering the ground.
The changing sky’s palette
Blends with the Fall colors.
Deeps shadows are cast
Gold and black
A majestic orchestration.
Dry summer meadow at dusk.
Subdued colors of the world.
Horizon of black trees,
Brown grass and
Darkened Blue Violets.
A flicker. Another.
Dozens, then hundreds.
The time of fireflies has come.
Sudden and random.
Twinkling and sweet.
On the other hand, the yard is FILLED with fireflies, and that’s lovely.
