Aledar both with and without his cloak (ignore the dot on the back it was so I could keep track of which way he was facing before he had a face)
Almost burning my altar
yes. I am that dumb.
After years of knowing I needed to be safe when lighting candles, I thought making a little bonfire for Lady Hestia was a good idea. In a closed space, surrounded by my wooden furniture, with no water or object large enough to put the fire out.
So here is a guide on WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE DUMB and how to prevent it.
First of all, be safe around fire. I know, lighting candles and incense is very beautiful, and if you work with collected herbs and woods, it can be challenging to burn them with just a little spark. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODS DON'T UNDERESTIMATE IT.
But in case you did:
DON'T BLOW ON IT. When witches say not to blow on a candle, it can be a piece of spiritual advice for some, but it has an actual reason behind it: oxygen will feed the fire. If you have any kind of window of any kind that could be blowing the fire to the side, it could be a good idea to close it so that the fire burns upward. This also applies to throwing water at it.
GET A WET TOWEL OR A BIG FIRE-RESISTANT BOWL: It can be a pot you use for cooking. If you use the bowl, cover the fire until you are certain it is put out. You can combine this with the wet towel, covering the pot with a wet towel, so that you are sure there is no more oxygen and the fire is out.
There will be smoke. A LOT. Just be mindful of it and open all of the windows and doors you can after the fire is out.
I always practice with a little candle snuffer by my side, but it was too small for this occasion.
Either way, please be safe and feel free to add your safety tips in replies or reblogs.

Working with a fire deity isn't always just about fire itself, it can also be. . .
The sensation of warmth in the sun.
Burning with passion. Inspiring passion.
Sadness that feels like thunderstorms, emotions that burn slowly and hotly, and joy that feels like your heart was ignited.
The burn in your legs, your lungs, etc. when you run.
Fire related professions such as blacksmithing and glass blowing.
Loving so fiercely that your heart burns with the desire to protect.
