The necessary precautions must be taken by every school in order to prevent anything from happening in the case of an emergency, like a fire. About 5,000 fires occur in education buildings each year according to the National Fire Protection Association. Fires carry the risk of death and injury which can also cause great disruption in the school year and trauma for the students, their families, and staff as well.
In-School, Why Fire Safety Is Important:
Fire safety should be taken seriously in an academic environment, especially if little kids and teenagers are around. Fire safety is important for one obvious reason. In school so many kids are present and a fire, irrespective of its size can be very disastrous. As we know, most of the things are in schools, for example, furniture in a classroom such as chairs, desks, and tables are made from materials like wood or plastic. A high-fire risk zone is a chemistry laboratory, as it contains large quantities of liquids. In such a place a fire can easily go out of control and cause large-scale damage within a minute. Another high risk is the area of the canteen, as there may be LPG and other material which can cause a disaster. Make sure the school buildings are constructed as per the latest NCB guideline. So we should have proper safety equipment in school.
Here are some tips on fire safety in the school.
A fire extinguisher, smoke alarm, and sprinklers must be on every floor. By the school authorities, the condition of the equipment must be periodically monitored.
Take precautions to prevent potentially harmful fires, the goal of fire prevention is to educate the public and how to survive. There are some Fire Prevention Officers in fire departments. Firefighters visit the schools and teach students the basics of fire prevention and fire safety.
Fire Alarm equipment should be installed in every area of schools such as classrooms, corridors, canteen, staff rooms and another area of campus. It helps people by warning when fire, smoke, or other fire-related emergencies are detected. Test smoke alarms every month with this we know whether alarms are working properly or not.
There should be some Ceiling Mounted Fire Extinguishers. Extinguishers are used to control small fires. The extinguishers should be monitored every month. You can check the extinguishers by confirming the pressure gauge or indicator is in the operable range or position, and lift the extinguisher to ensure it is full or not.
Every school should conduct monthly school fire safety seminars. Where each and every student should participate. Where they train the students on how to respond to a fire alarm during a school fire drill and know the locations of the fire protection system.
Students should practice as well how the fire drills are working as no matter how well you teach fire safety but lesson need to be reinforced with practice.
There should be a map in each classroom that clearly shows two different routes in case of a school fire.
The first priority is to keep students safe while they are at school. Guide your children on how to control fire and save yourself for it. Fire prevention and safety are the important things you can do for your school. Make sure you should take every safety tip for guiding every student and equipment for school safety from fire.
