Although wildland firefighters are at high risk for smoke-related health issues, the U.S. Forest Service has been slow to offer protection.
“As we work toward a full respiratory protection program, we’re not going to wait any longer. We think N95s can be used in a practical way that can provide some level of protection and if people are getting overheated, they can take it off,” said Evan Burks, a Forest Service spokesperson. “This is not a requirement, but we are allowing it and basically encouraging it.”
@thatdisasterauthor, do you happen to know why firefighters weren't allowed to wear respirators before this policy reversal? It seems like kind of a no-brainer. Although if that guy in the picture tried to wear one it wouldn't do him much good with that giant beard.
so i promised to update the original "how not to die from FIRE!!" post a while ago and i've finally got around to actually doing so! the links to the videos referenced (as well as the images on the slides) are below the cut. enjoy!

30 years ago, you had 15-17 minutes to escape a house fire. Today, due to synthetic materials like plastics, petroleum-based products, and modern home designs with open floor plans and larger rooms, you only have 3-5 minutes.
Witches will be like "my spell candle did something weird!!! Is this a sign????" And they'll show you the before and after pics for reference and.
By god in the first picture, the candle is loaded with plastic glitter and too many herbs all around the wick and a thick sheen of vegetable oil and essential oils. And the second picture is a shattered glass plate and wax absolutely everywhere and scorch marks on the table and.
Babes that isn't "weird" and the only "sign" here is that you have no concept of candle safety!!!!
