I had to lift this from a message exchange because it is too good:
I keep thinking I know Finnish is a supremely weird language and then I have to write "varausjärjestelmästämme" in an email and look at it for ten seconds before coming to the conclusion that yes, that is how you say "from our booking system" in Finnish.
This is a language I have studied and spoken for a good ⅔ of my life.
Today's word that I, no joke, stared at for ten minutes because it looked weird and sounded odd:
Puhelimitse (by phone)
By the time I googled it to confirm that, yup, that's how it's spelled, I had repeated it so many times under my breath that it's now just a weird sound with no meaning.
