When Holmes writes "Pray give my greetings to Mrs Watson" in his final letter, he is being...
Petty: "Go home to your wife, guess I'll die"
Awkward: "I'm trying to be polite but I forgot her name"
Messy: "Say hi to your wife for me, also I’ve always loved you, bye!”
Selfless: "Please move on with Mrs Watson with my blessings"
Gay: "If Moriarty/someone else reads this, you're definitely married to a woman"
Gayer: "We both know I am the only 'Mrs Watson' around here"
Poly: "Say hi to OUR wife"
Somehow all of these at once

FRED PORLOCK HAS THE FINAL PROBLEM WRITTEN ON HIS ARM!
The key is in the date, April 24. It is when in the original story Sherlock shows up at Watson's house fleeing from the hands of Moriarty. We can also read "-ng", deducing that it is 'evening of April 24'.
In the next line we read 'of his cigarette', words that appear just a little below. We can confirm that it's the original Final Problem.
I haven't been able to read the words above: Holiday week? Monday next? There are no words like that in the story. Can someone help me? One option is "Moriarty and -", which indeed appears above the other words in the story...but I am not sure.
I think this is more an easter egg than something related to Fred's past. Why him, then? Remember that in both original Valley of Fear and Moriarty the Patriot story, Fred is the first that tries to contact Sherlock Holmes for help. Also, the last chapter of vol9 is The White Knight of London, the arc that triggers the Final Problem.
Plus, Fred has a pen in his pocket!! This boy will not only defend Moriarty with his hands (gun) and teeth (knife) but also with words! (Again, the letter to Sherlock. This starts to make sense).

I’m high in the sky with nowhere to land.
I’m at the bottom of a pit and still falling.
Mystrade Fic Rec - Reichenbach AU
I’ve begun reading Mystrade back from the dawn of time, aka 2011, and it’s fascinating turning up stories from when we only had three episodes of Sherlock. (Before anyone knew what Lestrade’s first name was.) And ACD canon, of course.
This one, for example, postulates that Mycroft faces off with Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls and takes Lestrade along with him. I found it a nifty reworking of the classic Holmes story with a different Holmes, and a rather lovely friends-to-lovers progression.
“The Penultimate Problem” by marysutherland (14K, M) https://archiveofourown.org/works/273026
“God, I was a sodding idiot, wasn't I?"
"No more than normal," said Sherlock, almost kindly. "Mycroft, after all, is just a rather more skilled version of this magician here. He understands the psychology of tricks. You were in a state of abnormal stress, which always worsens perception, and he, or rather Lassiter, distracted you with the Blackberry, made you think he was ignoring you, rather than hiding his face. And, of course, Mycroft had one huge advantage over this shoddy prestidigitator here."
"What's that?"
"You trusted him," Sherlock said, smirking. "Always a bad move with a Holmes."
it's as interesting as when Moriarty talks to Sherlock about the "final problem", while saying "What’s the final problem? I did tell you. But did you listen?" he is literally sipping a cup of tea ... not very subtle really (or maybe yes because it took me years to notice it LOL)
