A Different Kind of Magic [T, 795 words, Hagrid/Flich]

Summary: Being a Squib isn’t easy, but Rubeus shows Argus that you don’t have to have magical powers to work your magic.

Notes: This fic came about as a response to some hate a piece of fanart, depicting a half-naked Hagrid and Filch, in a loving embrace, was getting. People were commenting on it saying “oh, my eyes!” or “I can’t unsee this!” or just straight up “NO”, and it really distressed me. As a bigger person myself, I always notice when people look at me with that slightly disgusted look on their face (it still happens, folkx, even in today’s more body-positive climate). I wanted to take these two characters who aren’t normally viewed through a sensual lens and show that everyone deserves to find, and can find, love and understanding. *steps off my soapbox now*

Love, Reign o’er Me [E, 2583 words, Remus Lupin/Sirius Black]

Summary: After more than a decade separated from one another, Remus has moved into Number Twelve Grimmauld Place with Sirius, and it seems that some sparks don’t die out, no matter how many years have gone by.

Notes: @upthehillart had posted a beautiful piece of Wolfstar art that really inspired me. The way Sirius held onto Remus in the piece, the want and the angst they both portrayed really spoke to me, and I knew I had to write something. Also, I had recently seen a fantastic video on * a website ;) * and needed to put Wolfstar into that scene lol

I Saw Harry Kissing Santa Claus [E, 8879 words, Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy]

Summary: Harry and Draco have a magical Christmas Eve, but Teddy sees something magical, too.

Notes: Sure, it’s a little on-the-nose, but isn’t that what you want from a Christmas fic? This was written for the Pen15 Is Mightier 2019 Gift Fic Exchange. I had also participated in the exchange in 2018, when I wrote my (slightly) infamous Snape/Lupin fic that zapped my creative energy for almost a year. I kind of don’t ship Snape with anyone, but this fic drove me to get past my hangups with Snape and appreciate the complexity of his character. However, this year I got to write for (one of) my OTP(s) and it was a joy to do! Getting to write Harry interacting with little Teddy was also a wonderful experience, too!

It’s been a great year of reigniting my love of writing and learning to love what I write. Here’s hoping 2020 brings more growth for us all!

ahhhh you picked a personal favorite! it's... maybe a third done, but it's Fili/Sigrid maybe 20 years after the events of the Hobbit. life and time haven't been kind to Sigrid, because the aftermath of war is rarely straightforward, and of course 20 years to her is more than half her life, where to Fili it's not that much of his. they'd fallen out of touch, and he's shocked when he comes home after several years living away from the mountain and discovers she's changed a lot, and they're no longer friends.

it goes from there as you might expect- he has to learn how to deal with her as a Real Ass Adult, and she has to learn to let go of some bitterness, but they work it out in the end. bonus bffs!tauriel/sigrid.

“What hae ye got o'er there,sister-mine?”

Bain's voice sqawked through the comm in her helmet as Sigrid prodded the body at her feet with her pike, flipping the gory plate of orc armor back to look for valuable weapons. They were late to the battlefield again because her nitwit brother's ship sputtered out just before entering orbit around the second moon of this planet. She'd had to go back and give his engine a jump, and by the time they'd landed, all the good stuff'd been picked over by the other, richer mercs with better ships and equipment.

“Nae much.” She sighed and moved on to the next pile of bodies, grateful for the lack of atmosphere that meant her helmet was on and there was no stench. “Picked cleaner than squivack bones after they've been thrown to the dogs.”

Tilda groaned across the comms from beyond the curve of the crater. “Valar curse ye, Bain, ye and yer half-blasted ship. Ain't near eno' here to make our price.”

Sigrid kept moving as her brother and sister dissolved into insult-laced squabbling, tuning them out with the practice of years as she methodically flipped, prodded, and searched the bodies on the wide plain. There were a few things left worth taking; the odd blaster too covered in gore to be worth the richer merc's cleaning up, a fibrous-chain net that would make a good storage holder for the small cargo compartment in her ship.

She was nearly back to her hatch, her siblings having almost completed their own circuits and returned to their own landers, when a twitch of movement caught her eye. She swung around, pike raised to skewer any loan heroes or greedy pickers, but lowered it when the body in front of her slumped senseless to the side.

She poked him with the blunt end of her weapon, and could see his mouth open in a pained moan. Still alive, then, and must be of sturdy make to have lived this long with the gaping wound in his chest. His armor was dull, but of elegant design, and the hairstyle intricately woven into his blond mane proclaimed his fealty to the losing side of this particular conflict. She popped her gum, the sound echoing in her helmet, and thought.

After a moment, she unclipped an anti-grav mover from her belt and slapped it on to his side, turning it on so that his body rose slowly from the barren surface to float in front of her at waist height. His wound was still bleeding sluggishly, but his chest rose and fell regularly as she steered him into her opened ship, and strapped him flat to the bench in the back.

She closed her airlock and settled herself in the pilot's seat, stripping off her gloves and pushing the button on her helmet to cycle the screen open.

“Bain, Tilda, on my mark.”

The chorus of ayes came through, and she cast a last glance over her shoulder at the limp body tied firmly to the bench in the back as she started the countdown.

He was interesting.

Now that his brother is resting peacefully and not dying of orc poison, Fili takes a moment to head outside and survey Laketown. Bard's oldest daughter, Sigrid, joins him, and they speak of all that has happened.
