Sometimes I think about all the women in the footnotes of history who refused to participate in something simply because they didn't trust the men.
Because how many stories are there of heretics changing the society for the better, for a hero arriving at city walls to liberate you, of a King who received divine revelation and stopped his erring ways and yet your life stays shit, your men beat/rape you, your children have no security and you are an extension of the man they bound you to. What's it to you who the new prodigy is and what spell the new hero spins for you know men lie, they love ideals and talk but they lie without even knowing it and your house stays burning, your man still slaps you and you still eat at the floor. Your daughter will be married a child and if you die popping another one out they'll burn/bury you and he'll look for another one.
How many women rejected socialism, communism, some revolutionary movement, civil rights, black rights, the movement of independence, decolonization, Zoroastrianism, Bhudism, Judaism, Christianity, ISLAM
How many women rejected a prophet because he was a man and men lie. How many women will be in hell for not trusting a man that he held their salvation. How many souls did not believe because everything they had ever been taught by a decent elder or they had witnessed on earth told them to nod politely when a heretic was being received well by your men but never ever hold hope that what he says applies to you or will change your life for the better.
How many women refused the Prophet (SAW) because he was a man and they had only tasted cruelty from them. How many Bedouin women died rejecting Islam as just the new fad in the sands of spirits and poetry because that's all they had seen.
How many Bedouin women were forced to accept Islam because one day a man from a city came to their basti and spoke of a religion markedly similar to one she had already heard about, one that was spreading fast and had the strongest 2 cities on the peninsula at it's behest which meant it controlled the armies and the trade routes, and your men talked to the outsider, listened and believed, maybe they even told you to pack up because they want to visit and see what the fuss is about, and you travel with a baby and tent on your back only to pitch it outside the city and never see the Man they all chant about, maybe never even meet someone of the new faith, your men come back from their audience enthralled, tell you to recite 2 verses and you do because what he says goes and it doesn't matter if their is one God or 10,000 because at the end of the day you have to listen to the one in your bed. And now you are part of this faith you have never seen, know nothing about and who's prophet you are not allowed to witness. Another fad for the men that envelopes you because who are you without him, no one, nothing.
And so you come back , pitch your tent again, and nothing changes, he's still violent and your children are still at his mercy, you still do all your labour and he still scowls at his infant daughter but his new faith doesn't let him bury her, which fills you with dread because atleast in death your daughter can find peace, now she has to suffer your fate.
Nothing changes so neither do you, he tells you to prostrate 5 times a day so you do, but you die never believing, because it's just something a man told you to do, and you never had a choice.
And the women who may have met the Prophet or the Sahaba, who listened to the message and the promises of salvation and equality, and did not trust them because you can't trust men, and Atleast the paganism of your mother is comfortable and familiar if still cruel, and maybe false hope is more cruel, so you rebuke the message and die disbelieving because again a passionate speech from a man is not to be believed, that's not how the world you lived in works.
I wonder what God will do to these women, I wonder what they will think when they see him and be like "oh so the dude wasn't lying huh"
I believe my God will be merciful to them, he won't smite a woman for protecting herself from yet another heretic/hero with hopes of salvation that still ends with her getting married off and doing the dishes forever.
