It took a while to unlearn a whole lifetime of beliefs. Or, in Narcissa’s case, it took a while for her to get comfortable around Lily Evans and the other muggleborns ( whether they be in the order or not ). It was nothing personal, of course, and the blonde was definitely trying, but trying did not feel good enough and sometimes —— sometimes, she questioned her reasons for even being here ( she had done it for her sister and her cousin, the family she had lost and always wanted back, but also for herself and the dreams she had had that were threatened by the life she was meant to live, but this did not matter now. Not anymore ), for spying on the Death Eaters for them all. Putting herself at risk like that still felt counter-intuitive ( foolish ), but the struggle was worth the end goal.
Still, Lily’s son was starting Hogwarts today, and this felt like one of those milestones you had to address, especially when left alone in the meeting room. ( Narcissa really should be going, she is meant to be running errands, but she wanted to be polite. ) « So, what house does Harry hope he’ll be in ? »
