âMamaâs Little Moonâ Sneak Peak (Sequel to The Crescentâs Ascent) đđđą
Okay you know what?? Since today is the one year anniversary of The Crescentâs Ascent, what better time to post some excerpts of the sequel?? Feels right lol, and I hope you all enjoy! ^^
ââââââââââââââââ
âScowl, youâre cheating!â Donnie hissed, jabbing his controller in annoyance. âThereâs no way you just made that move without some sort of dirty play, and I would know!â
âSure, you keep telling yourself that Dee.â Leo teased. âRegretting that decision to make my prosthetic so efficient yet?â
âYou know I could never regret that.â Donnie grumbled. âHowever I am definitely starting to regret letting you pick the game for our championship. Youâre always better at the Lou Jitsu ones!â
âItâs all practice, my dear Watson.â Leo smirked, taking down Donnieâs character and watching the health bar drop satisfyingly. âAnd perhaps a hint of prodigious talent.â
It had been about three months since the whole ordeal with Big Mama, and Leo could feel the difference as he had finally begun to heal. He felt⊠lighter. Less tense. Peaceful. He still struggled sometimes with believing that his brothers shouldnât have to deal with him, but throughout multiple Dr. Feelings sessions he was practicing combatting his intrusive thoughts with affirming sentences and talking through what he was thinking. It was an uphill climb, but the top was in sight and the view was worth it.
âAaaaand looks like I remain as the champion.â Leo crowed as Donnie chucked his controller. Raph dove to catch it with a scolding look at his younger brother.
âRaph only saw that coming from a mile away.â The snapper sighed in relief and set it down gently on a side table. âYou two get way too intense when gaming.â
âWay to go, Leo!â Mikey gave his older brother a fond hug, and Leo chuckled and embraced him back. âI was always cheering for you.â
âScoff. You kept switching between the two of us depending on who was ahead.â Donnie muttered, and Leo waved him off.
âThanks hermanito.â Leo made a show of giving his youngest brother a fist bump, watching as Donnie spluttered in irritation. âI mean, was there ever any doubt?â
âYes, much doubt.â Donnie huffed at the same time as Mikey shook his head vigorously and chirped, âNever!â
Leo chuckled and yawned, stretching his arms back over his head. âWell that was fun but honestly Iâm ready to hit the hay. Carrying that entire game was exhausting, something Iâm sure you canât relate to, DonTron.â
Donnie grumbled slightly but sighed. âFine, go relish in your victory Nardo.â His eyes softened briefly before he took out his phone. â⊠Love you.â
Leo smirked fondly. âAwwwwww I love you too, Tello. See you guys in the morning!â
ââNight, Lee!â Mikey chirped, and Raph likewise exchange bedtime wishes with his brother before Leo headed to his train car.
The slider yawned as he shoved the curtain aside, flopping down on his bed comfortably and staring at the ceiling. It was crazy to think about just how much had happened since⊠then. He and Donnie were seventeen now and pestering Raph since they were officially teetering on adulthood, trying to push the independence limit as far as they could. Now Leo could even pull the âhey donât boss me around Iâm a poor little stubbyâ card more often and the look on Raphâs face was priceless. Sure he would get chased around the lair for a bit and then got a lecture from Dr. Feelings but it was still so worth it. The slider smiled slightly and rolled over, clutching Lulu his unicorn plushieânamed from his toddler years when he couldnât quite pronounce Lou Jitsuâto his chest and gently petting the worn-down fur. He inhaled the familiar scent, letting the faint sounds of laughing from his brothers probably turning on a JJ movie comfort him. It felt so⊠normal. He never thought heâd ever be able to say that again after the Prison Dimension, but it was true. He didnât feel the constant anxiety of trying to mask everything that had happened to him, and there was a strange sort of security in knowing that his brothers were aware of what he had gone through and still loved him the same. It was a solid truth to combat all those lying whispers that they would hate him if they knew the truth and had in a way reinforced the bond between them all.
They were proof of how real brothers should act.
Nothing like how Zephyr ever treated him.
Just the thought of that yokai made Leo tense up, phantom pain of his abuse crawling over his skin. His breath hitched as he closed his eyes, pressing Lulu into his plastron and letting the pressure ground him.
âââââââââââââ
He sent her away because he loved her.
Such a touching sacrifice.
But why should the both of them suffer because of those ridiculously protective brothers of his? She was going crazy by herself. It had been three months! A quarter of a year.
Just like the quarter of the moon that always made her heartsick.
Big Mama scowled and stood, setting her tea aside on the bedside table and starting to pace. How could she take this kind of pain any longer? It was agony to be away from someone she loved dearly⊠they had been through so much together! Sure Zephyr had complicated things with his questionable teaching methods (she ignored the fact that she had permitted it), but she was always the one her darling little moon would come to when sad or scared. They had a special bond as she strove to protect him from a pathetic family that never appreciated him like she did.
A faint smile played at her lips as she pictured his clever wit, his strength and agility⊠he had been the only one to ever outsmart her in the Nexus! And after her training once he had become her son he was practically undefeatable. It was only his emotions and love for his brothers that was preventing him from staying in her arms forever, the son to a wonderful mother.
Big Mama glared around the room, the very city she was in a painful reminder of her time with Lou. She had loved that man and thought this place would be comforting, but now it was only taunting her with images of her ex and of her son. Crescent was technically of Lou Jitsuâs DNA, and he certainly proved it! His bright eyes, curious personality, desire to show off⊠yes it was just like her little snuggly-muffin. But now she was alone and that traitor who refused to continue helping her with her Nexus got to keep the closest thing to a child she ever had.
And she was certain that the red-eared slider missed her too.
How could he not?

Remus knew that his creations were nuisancesâhe knew from years of trying to share them with any side that had the time and energy and the will to spare it for him that they were inconvenient, and messy and unwanted.
It had never occurred to him that this messy and inconvenient little noodle-baby might have posed an exception to that life-long ruleâwhy would it?

So err probably not in Sonnet 29 universe. That fic feels standalone and sort of special to me, to be honest. They were also married and very much in love, I donât think they would invite Anthony into their marriage (especially as he couldnât meet her eye after he overheard them haha)
BUT⊠I was planning a Christmas threesome as a follow up to Driven To Distraction⊠and you have given me an idea - it could be in the billiards room of Bridgerton House. A spirited game of billiards turns filthy. Itâs modern AU though.
I will likely post other threesomes before then as itâs more than 6 months away. I have one threesome request (but itâs fluff only) and a possible sequel featuring a threesome. Once Iâve cleared a few more wips I may open to threesome requests đŹđ
Thank you so much for this message, itâs given me food for thought đđ§Ąđ§Ą

Crowley planejava pegar Adam naquela tarde.
(Plantou o broto perto delas.)
Ela repuxou as bordas do saco plĂĄstico e pescou outra casca.
"Então entende a minha preocupação."
"Legion", acrescentou Beelzebub incisivamente.
Gabriel e Uriel imediatamente pareceram envergonhados.
***
***
âPrimeiro as flores, agora as abelhas.
A mulher sorriu.
Hastur estremeceu e esqueceu as farpas.
Treason.
O homem partiu outro talo. "NĂŁo temo, geralmente", disse ele.
Foi uma resposta extremamente razoĂĄvel. Sandalphon ficou surpreso.
Sandalphon balançou um dedo em advertĂȘncia. âEsse homem estĂĄ liderando um culto!â ele fumegou. âComo qualquer rebelde, ele serĂĄ mergulhado nas profundezas do Poço ...â
âO quĂȘ, MefistĂłfeles? Ă a hora do almoço dele."
âPor favor, me desculpe,â ele disse.
Beelzebub perguntou a Gabriel.

(The sequel to Alone is here! I had a few requests for there to be a part 2 to this, and with my christmas trade with @astrobruce coming up i figured what better way to wrap up the decade than with a prison break. Enjoy!)
He didnât know how long theyâd both been there. There was a lot about their current situation that he found he didnât know, really. Their location, for a start. He couldnât feel anything of the outside air, as if the sky itself had been closed off from him. Thor hadnât felt like that sinceâŠwell, since Odin had cast him out, really.
At least he knew Bruce was beside him. He couldnât see the scientist - or his green companion, but being Asgardian had its privileges. The weather may have been barred from him, but Bruceâs breathing rang true in his ears if he wished to listen to it. The coolness of the metal against his cheek as he placed his ear to the wall, the soft tones of Bruce trying to talk to him - and his ability to talk back. It made the whole ordeal a lot less unbearable.
He was sure he wouldâve been fine if it had been just that. Just a prison, a monitoring, nothing more. But of course, fate wasnât so kind to him. Not when he woke one day from a sleep he didnât remember entering, staring with abject horror at the machinery that was now lining his arms. Metal coils circling him like snakes, and he felt the freezing material of something against the back of his neck.Â
And Ross was there, standing in front of him, toying with some kind of activator in his hand.
Thorâs voice was hoarse, with disuse and something heâd swear wasnât fear. It wasnât. He was Thor, God of Thunder. And he was not scared of a man in a pressed suit with a trimmed mustache.Â
âI know you must feel very powerful with us being here,â
He nodded in the direction of where Bruceâs cell was, trying his best to picture him alive and well and not the cold, shaking figure that haunted his dreams in the few hours of sleep heâd been able to get.Â
âVery powerful, and very strong. But please, listen to me. This is a bad idea. You donât know what youâre doing.â
He swallowed, taking a few steps towards the glass - or as many as his now limited mobility would allow. Â
âI donât even know how these powers work - not really. I thought I did when I had mjolnir, but now I donât, and I have no idea whatâs going to happen if you press that button. YouâŠYou canât do this.â
Ross, for a moment, seemed to consider this. In the face of the unnatural, on the brink of accessing a raw force of nature, he did what any human would do. When faced with the passage to the northern seas, with the mountainous ice caps that loomed over ships and the biting wind that froze fingers and cracked skin - people had hesitated before drawing out the maps.Â
Theyâd considered the pros and the cons, used their heads, used caution.Â
Rossâs fingers wavered above the control panels, his face set in stone.Â
Thor shook his head mutely, the eloquent phrases and elaborate threats and ominous forebodings heâd picked up from a cave somewhere long ago boiling down into one word. One syllable.Â
âPlease."Â
Ross frowned. The air was still.Â
Until he pressed down, and Thorâs world tilted in the corner of his vision, dissolving into a burning white that for a moment seemed suspended between the here and now. For a moment, nothing touched him. His body was not his own.Â
Until it was.
Until his soul was dragged, screaming back into his body, and he felt every jolt that ran through his veins.
Standing tall through that storm was a feat that none could have achieved. The strongest ships still stood a chance of sinking, the most hardened sailors could still drown when faced with cold waters.Â
Thor didnât want to drown.Â
Not with Bruce on the other side of the wall. Not when their miraculous escape hadnât happened yet, and he still had promises left to fulfil - tales of tea and warmth and some old sappy movie that he still needed to tell.Â
For a moment, the thought of it worked.Â
And then the pain redoubled, and he didnât have moments anymore.Â
***
The grate was cold, and Bruce was panicking.Â
Of course, maybe it was a little late in the day to start panicking. Given that he was being held by General Ross who had made his plans to dissect him abundantly clear in the past. But, heâd always had Thor. His rage, his sorrow, his storms echoing off of the sides of the chamber. The creeping feeling of static that seemed to sink through his skin itself had always been there, right when he needed it.
And now it wasnât.Â
He didnât have the booming tones of his demi-god. His spaceman. He didnât have anything to prove that he was even alive-Â
Bruceâs breath caught in a throat that was growing tighter by the minute, and for a few moments he teetered on the edge of the abyss, his mind reeling and the corners of his eyes growing wet and hot.Â
âNo.âÂ
He sniffed, wiping his face and attempting to set his features into something cold - something strong. Unbreakable.Â
âHulk, nowâs the time. We canât wait any longer - weâre leaving.â
The larger than life presence shrunk further into the back of his mind, but Bruce wasnât giving up. Not now. He reached out, pressed at something until it was painful, grabbed the remnants of a flaming childhood by the shoulders and stared his giant in the eyes - metaphorically speaking, of course.Â
âI know youâre cold. And I know youâre hurting, and I wish I could take that away from you. But Thor needs our help - he might be hurt, or scared, orâŠâ
Bruce didnât want to finish the sentence, but Hulk seemed to understand. The presence that had been retreating rapidly into the back of his mind froze, turned, metaphorical ears turned back to Bruce to listen.Â
âBlondie not dead,â Hulk mumbled, and Bruce caught the faintest of tremors in that cavern - deep voice.Â
âNo, I know. Iâm sorry for scaring you.âÂ
Bruce cradled his hand to his chest, tracing his thumb feather-light over the freshly made wounds - still glaring and red even under the shadow of artificial night.Â
âBut we have to help him. And I need you to get us out of here, big guy. You think you can do that for me?â
âHulk tired.âÂ
âI know.â Bruce snapped, and immediately regretted it when the presence seemed to shrink away again. He sighed, shaking his head mutedly, his voice falling to softer tones.Â
âI know, Hulk. And I promise after this is over, we can take a break. As long as we like. But I just need you to do this one thing for meâ.
Hulk stilled for a moment, the corners of his mind growing quiet.Â
And then his bones began to ache, but for once, the familiar battle for dominance and control wasnât being held. He stepped back, with a slow and careful breath, passing the torch over to the one thing strong enough to get them out of there.Â
âYou got this, big guy. Letâs go get our demigod back.â
âAnd smash Ross.â
âYeah.â Bruce felt himself grinning as he relinquished control of the wheel.Â
âSmash Ross.â
***
And a few dark seconds later, Bruce was stumbling onto the floor, faced with a different problem. He hadnât even gotten that much prompting - in fact, heâd been all for leaning into this more recent development when abruptly heâd been shoved back into reality, broken glass digging into the skin of his knees as his world reformed itself before his eyes.
âHulk? What the hell happened?âÂ
âBlondie wrong.â
âWhat?â
Hulk made one final pushing motion, green eyes blinking away the last of the blurriness, leaving Bruce face to face with the problem.
Thor was standing in the center of the cell, staring at the ceiling with unseeing eyes, the familiar ocean blue blocked out entirely by a pulsing glow of white.Â
Sparks of lightning flew from his body - a body that was bruised, broken, and teetering as if it was on the edge of collapse. Bruce wasnât even sure what was holding Thor up at this point. If it was the electrodes that lined his demi-gods arms, or if it was the lightning - each fork forcing him ram-rod straight, suspended like a puppet from glowing strings.Â
âThor?â
Bruce managed to croak out, taking one tentative step inward.
âCan you hear me?â
If he could, he made no sign of it. Just kept staring at that point in the ceiling - the only real movement being the occasional twitch of his hands.
A sharp jolt ran through Thorâs body as an arc of lightning surged, and for a moment, Bruce worried for the stability of the room. The electrodes buzzed, lights flickered, and it was then he remembered that scene on the bridge. The clouds darkening, the golden spires of Asgard being torn apart by an unnatural storm - that had been Thor.Â
It was difficult to remember that, sometimes. To look at the man who had spent 5 months marvelling over the invention of the frappuccino, who wore pyjama bottoms printed with the Hulkâs face, and see a storm of nature.
It made all the news reports seem somehow even more fake. Heâd heard the words that theyâd said about him, obviously. Bulletins that scrolled across screens, screaming of alien invasions and freak weather conditions and interdimensional conquerors.
Seeing Thor like that was hard.Â
Confronting the raw force of an elemental God was somehow even harder.Â
Because Thor was there. He was right in front of him, he was there.
But at the same time, he wasnât.Â
This wasnât Thor. Thor wasnât an unfeeling storm, a force of destruction and only destruction. Heâd always been so much more than what people expected him to be. A warrior, a prince, an Avenger. Throughout all of it heâd even managed to be a friend. And then something closer than that.Â
It may have been strange, but despite the pain of it all, Bruce was beginning to feel a little bit brave.Â
Thor was still in there. And someone needed to save him.Â
Bruce Banner tightened his jaw, stepping further into the eye of the storm.Â
Working in the fields he did, Bruce had learned a few things about routine, and itâs importance. About taking things slow - not lethargic, but slow. Careful. Following instructions, and biting back the panic that was threatening to boil over.Â
Bruce was a doctor, at the end of the day. He didnât get those phdâs for nothing, after all.Â
And if treating Thor as a patient was what was going to get them through this, then thatâs what he would do.Â
Carefully, Bruce walked forward. Carefully, he stepped over broken glass and warped metal, his eyes catching sight of the grate that connected the two cells together - burned beyond repair.Â
Carefully, Bruce raised his arms, cupping Thorâs face in his hands, looking for any sign of life within the burning lightning.Â
Looking for anything that could remind him of the man who had saved his life countless times, and who heâd like to say heâd saved in return.Â
âIâm not going to hurt you. I just -â
Bruce was cut off by a yelp, as a stray spark of electricity shot up his arm. He stumbled backwards, Hulk rearing his head, and he felt his veins flush with green, but he needed control for this.
Hushing Hulk back down to the corner of his mind, Bruce cradled his injured arm, and began his journey again.
Calloused fingers brushed against the electrodes against Thorâs arms, cramped muscles strained as he brought himself to a tiptoe until the cold metal that had been fixed on to the back of Thorâs neck met his hand.Â
He frowned in sympathy, in anger, and a whole lot of emotions he didnât necessarily recognise at the moment.Â
It shouldnât have come to this. The negotiations should never have been able to reach this point - where strapping in a person, a friend, and harvesting their power was apparently an ok response. Bruce swore to himself that he would protect Thor, if he needed to.Â
And it was about damn time to start fulfilling that promise.Â
âSo, I donât know if you can hear me. Or if youâre even still in there. But, just in case you are, I need you to listen,âÂ
Bruce swallowed nervously, fingers latching on to the cold, unfeeling metal, tightening round it until he couldnât grip any further.Â
âYou told me we were going to get out of here. That at the end of the day, weâd be at home, and things would be ok again. Now, I know youâre not a liar - at least, not to me. So Iâm gonna hold you to that standard, and trust you not to kill me when I do this. Ok?â
Thor didnât respond, but Bruce hoped that maybe it had helped.Â
If any of it had reached him, heâd count it as a success in this point. Because the universe couldnât be that cruel, could it? It wouldnât force a barrier between them, and break it down, only for there to be another one in place.Â
That couldnât happen.
No, Thor could always hear him. It was a perk of being Asgardian. Thor would hear him, and Bruce could hear him, too.Â
He didnât need a metal grate, or a buzzing of static to hear his spaceman.Â
The storm was alive. Thor was alive.Â
And they were getting out of here.
Bruce pulled, and the room was plunged into darkness.Â
***
Things got a little foggy, after that. He remembered a few details - a warm body falling against him not long after the power had given out. Heavy, with veins that still retained a faint blue-ish glow, but warm.Â
Hulk had taken over not long after that. Pulled the two of them out through the crumbling prison, and ok, maybe heâd smashed an office on the way.Â
Ross hadnât been there. Part of him was disappointed, but another was relieved. Honestly, he didnât know if he could hurt anymore people. And Hulk seemed to share the same sentiment. A sense of exhaustion, that made him more than a little worried. Because this had been too close. The danger just a little too real - and sure, flying robots and aliens were also very real.Â
But theyâd faced those threats as a team.Â
The Avengers, Revengers, whoever - thereâd always been someone watching someones back.Â
Here had been too vulnerable. For both of them.Â
Thor hadnât woken up just yet, at least, not fully. Heâd stirred briefly when theyâd gotten to something resembling a safehouse, but he hadnât been making much sense. Not according to Bruce, anyway.
Hulk seemed to understand more than he did. Which was weird, considering he hadnât been there for most of it. Bruce was used to doing the comforting, the shushing, being the calming voice and the mediating opinion.
It was strange seeing Hulk do the same. Watching large green fingers brush through Thorâs hair, hearing low tones grumble words of reassurance.Â
It was nice. But strange.Â
Even stranger when Hulk had turned those words on Bruce, and insisted he get a proper nights rest.Â
 âHulk keep watch. Banner sleep.â
Bruce had hesitated, feeling the overwhelming urge to fidget with his hands that only really resulted in Hulk twitching his fingers.Â
âYouâre sure youâre gonna be ok?âÂ
âHulk fine. Banner sleep.âÂ
âAlright, but if you need anything -â
âBanner sleep.â
âOk. But only for a bit.âÂ
He paused, taking one last look through the small viewing window he was able to find.Â
Thor was asleep, too. Nestled in Hulkâs arms, face pressed somewhere between the crook of his elbow - thick, green skin stifling loud snores like the rolling of thunder.Â
(Also, side note, Iâm literally incapable of proofreading unless things are in post format so please excuse my typos pff)
(Side Note pt 2, electric boogaloo; I edited it and now itâs not as BAD. Idk if this is gonna retag but if it does Iâm SORRY, bc Iâm awful and Iâve been fixing the formatting smh)
Sweat droplets rolled between his shoulders in a way that made his skin crawl as he shifted in his seat. Staring blankly at the paperwork in his hand, Jack began to read the paragraph at the top of the page for the fifth time.Â
Of course there was maintenance happening on the buildingâs AC unit, of course today was the hottest day of the week, and of course Brock felt the need fuck him over in more ways than one by not letting him call off work for that day. When he looked at it from Brockâs standpoint as a commander, Jack understood why. The STRIKE team had an urgent mission come up, they would be leaving for it in three days, and they needed everyone to be ready. But when he looked at it from Brockâs standpoint as his boyfriend, Jack knew it was just Brock being the biggest dick imaginable at that point. It hadnât been enough to drag him around the house in a dog collar that left dark, saturated bruises in its wake and made speaking a chore. It wasnât enough to humiliate him by claiming that the bruising across Jackâs nose and beneath is eyes was from him coming into unfortunate contact with the shower rod the night before. And it wasnât enough to make Jack come to work in a heavy jacket, zipped all the way up, in ninety degree weather to hide the bruises over his throat. Because nothing was ever enough and despite trying to stay out of Brockâs line of sight all day, Jack knew heâd always be Brockâs primary target.
âI need you to pick up training with Cap today.â Brock stated plainly while JAck shared a lunch that only one of them ate.Â
Jack recoiled, looking up from the slowly cooling chicken pasta in front of him. Heâd only gotten three bites in before he decided that it hurt too much to swallow.Â
âWhy?â Jack grumbled, his voice low and weak from both the abuse to his vocal cords as well as disuse. He hadnât said a word to Brock all day, the anger in him once again rising, bashing against the cage of his resolve like a wild beast trying to break free.Â
ââCause Pierce called me about havinâ another meeting this morning. I donât got a choice here, Jackie, I already told the big guy youâd be there.â Brock explained as he scrolled through his emails at his computer.Â
âWhy not jusâ fucknâ reschedule.â Jack grumbled under his breath, rising from his seat and throwing his lunch into the bin by Brockâs desk with more force than necessary. The combination of the action and his attitude had Brock looking up from his work, staring at Jack with an irritated look despite the upward turn of his lip.Â
âWhat was that, mouth?â He asked and Jack hesitated for a second. He could challenge it, could try to put Brock in his place, but the lingering threat of the previous nightâs events bred an unfamiliar fear in his chest and he pulled his gaze away.Â
âNothinâ.â He mumbled, shoving his hands in his jacket pockets before making his escape.Â
***
Jack sat in the gym for twenty minutes waiting for Steve.Â
And in that twenty minutes he contemplated what the hell had just happened. Heâd never been afraid of Brock before. Upset? Yes. Wary? Of course. Angry? Abso-fucking-lutely, but afraid? Never. And whatever was causing that fear to fester in his chest was making him sick.Â
The doors to the gym opened and Jack broke from his thoughts, staring up to meet the bright, happy smile on Steveâs face that oh-so-awfully contrasted from his own bitter mood in a way that was borderline annoying.Â
âBeen a while,â Steve chuckled, offering his hand to help Jack get up from his place on the floor. He took it, pulling himself up and suppressing a hiss of pain as his body ached. That brief tumble down the stairs last night mustâve taken more out of him that he originally thought.Â
As the two of them readied themselves; stretching, wrapping their hands, and ultimately building dread in Jackâs stomach, he couldnât help but lose himself again.Â
âAre you gonna wear that the whole time?â Steve piped up, pulling Jack back to reality for the third time in the past hour.Â
âWhat?â He asked, forcing his shoulder to stretch despite the strain of his muscle.Â
âThat jacket.â Steve elaborated, gesturing at him to emphasize.Â
Jack glanced down at it, somehow momentarily forgetting he had it on, before shrugging with a nod.Â
âYeah.âÂ
That was all he chose to say before the two of them stepped into the ring. There he stood: in a jacket, white basketball shorts, and black athletic ankle supports, staring at Steve who wore something similar, just with a tank top instead.Â
The two of them sparred for a bit and from the very beginning, Jack knew it wasnât going to end well for him. The soreness that blanketed him only seemed to get heavier the longer he tried to force his body to move. It slowed his reactions, made it impossible to keep up with the living god that was Steve Rogers. Jack didnât think he could take goddamn Captain America down even on a good day so trying to on a day where all of his muscles were simultaneously on fire definitely wasnât going to work in his favor.Â
And try as he might, one particularly well timed hit to his ribs had him on the floor. When he looked at the clock, heâd found that theyâd been at it for a solid forty-five minutes and Jack was almost impressed with himself. That is until Steve fussed over him like a damn mother hen.Â
âShit, Rollins are you alright?â Steve asked, dropping to his knees to seemingly try and get a closer look at Jack who, in turn, waved him off as he spit his mouthguard out onto the floor.Â
âMâ fine,â Jack wheezed unconvincingly as he pushed himself up with one arm, the other wrapped securely around his chest. Steve didnât seem convinced, deciding to go for the jacket which had Jack pulling away reflexively.Â
Steve paused, staring at him for a moment before he pulled the collar of the jacket down and all Jack could do was look up to avoid seeing the concerned look on Steveâs face. He let Steve unzip the jacket and pull it from his shoulders, getting a closer look. Even the gentle grazes of Steveâs fingers over the bruises on his neck had him flinching, less from actually feeling any pain and more from expecting it. What the hell had Brock done to him? And to think, for a few delusional hours, he thought he was lucky to have that man.Â
âWhat happened to you?â Steve asked but Jack didnât answer, responding by shrugging the jacket back over his shoulders and forcing himself to stand despite how much his body protested. âDid someone try to kill you?âÂ
For a single, cursory moment, Jack paused while his brain took time to do a hard reset. The suggestion felt so ridiculous that he wasnât sure what else to do but play along with it. So he shrugged and watched as Steve shook his head in disbelief.Â
âDid you file a report?â He asked and Jack released a bitter laugh.Â
âWhat? Hell no.â He snorted. He knew that Steveâs mind was somewhere else entirely but he couldnât help imagining what it would be like trying to file a report against Brock. Heâd be killed, likely. Pierce already hated their relationship, said it was a âconflict of interest.â Jack thought it was asinine at first but now he was beginning to think Pierce, slimy bastard that he was, was right.Â
âYou need to, this is important!â Steve demanded. Jack wasnât entirely sure how he was supposed to react and instead just shrugged it off with a quiet âsâ fine.â only to earn himself a frustrated sigh from Steve.Â
âItâs not fine, itâs dangerous! You know what we do, itâs...our line of work isnât exactly a forgiving one.â Steve huffed. âTell me about it,â Jackâs thoughts chimed as he shook his head, staring at Steve with a tired look.Â
âI gotta get back to work. STRIKE team ships out in three days, be ready.â His voice was monotonous and bland as he turned to head back toward the locker rooms. Thatâs when Steve grabbed his arm and a rush of adrenaline tore through his body with the force of a fire hose as he turned to throw a punch that Steve quickly dodged, releasing him in the process. Jack didnât know when he started trembling but now that he noticed, he couldnât calm his nerves. The sad look that Steve gave him did nothing more than ignite an angry fire within him and suddenly, he was overwhelmed with the feeling that he wanted to fight again.Â
âYou donât have to do this alone, I can help you.â Steve offered, taking a step forward and offering a gentle hand, only to have Jack grab hold of his wrist with an unnecessarily intense grip.Â
âEver stop to think I donât need your fuckinâ help, Rogers?â Jack growled. âEver stop to think I might just need your head outtaâ my ass?âÂ
With a grimace, Jack shoved Steve back and turned without a second thought, zipping his jacket up as he retreated to lick at the wounds rubbed raw by Steveâs pity.Â

Going through a week long mission with Steve, while simultaneously trying to hide the bruises Brock gave him, had been absolute hell. So it was understandable that all Jack wanted to do when he got home was sleep. Unfortunately for him, all Brock wanted to do was fuck.Â
âIâm serious, no.â Jack growled, pushing Brockâs hand from his hip only for that same imposing hand to latch right back on.Â
âOh, câmon, Jackie, I need you inside me.â Brock purred, licking at Jackâs throat. By then, the bruises had become a sickly yellow and were faint enough for Jack to stop wearing hoodies and jackets to hide them. The rest of his body healed accordingly and things could go back to being relatively normal, something Jack wasnât sure if he wanted. Because Brock made him hate normal.Â
âI said I donât want to.â Jack said more firmly this time, finally managing to shove Brock back on his haunches. Pushing himself up on his elbows, Jack held Brockâs glare before his commander finally scoffed and stood up from their bed with a huff.Â
âYou know, you seriously make me wanna fuckinâ hit you sometimes.â Brock growled as he left the room, undoubtedly planning to sleep on the couch. He always slept on the couch when he was sick of looking at Jack, when seeing Jack made him angry. He knew this, he knew Brock got mad when he said no, knew that Brock didnât like it when he refused anything, especially sex, and knew that Brock wanted to hurt him because of it. But Brock had never actually said it aloud before. And for whatever reason, actually hearing it was unsettling.Â
He didnât sleep well that night and when he woke up the next morning, he found that Brock had seemingly dropped the entire thing. He was bad about that, about ignoring any sort of argument they had, but Jack didnât really have any other choice but to deal with it.Â
Over time, Brock got worse. Just as he always had. After a while his threats stopped being threats and he stopped warning Jack all together. Sometimes Jack could anticipate it but most of the time, it felt entirely random. Brock would smack him in the back of his head, shove him around, punch him, even, if he was in a particularly bad mood. And Jack was at a loss.Â
There was a war waged in Jackâs mind, his emotions tumbling between hating Brock and adoring him. Brock was a terrible man; he was violent and volatile and fear had become a familiar friend to Jack in the months that had passed since the choke chain incident. But every few days, he would be gentle and kind and heâd make Jack feel like nothing short of a god. And for those few, fleeting hours, Jack was on cloud nine.Â
But the good times never seem to last and eventually he was sick of making up excuses to stay.Â
âCome on, Jack, yer gonna leave over that? Over a love tap?â Brock growled as he followed Jack through their home.Â
âDoes it matter?â Jack grumbled, shoving some of his clothes into an old backpack. âIâm a grown man, I can leave if I want to.âÂ
This response, however, wasnât good enough. Brockâs hand was almost instantly around his arm and Jack recoiled, throwing his elbow back and landing a hit across Brockâs mouth, effectively bloodying his lip.Â
âSonuva-â Brock barked, staggering back when Jack landed another hit on his face. Spitting a mixture of blood and spit out onto the dark carpet, Brock wiped a hand across his chin before glaring at Jack, who was frozen. Multiple thoughts raced through his mind in that moment and somehow he was both proud of and angry with himself. But both of those were overshadowed by the terror that crashed through him like a startling rush of electricity when Brock advanced on him.Â
The two of them fumbled around for awhile, battering and bruising each other until eventually, Brock got his hands around the back of Jackâs head pulled, bringing his knee up to collide with Jackâs nose.Â
A sickening crunch filled the air and the two of them paused as Jack covered his face, panting while he tried to gather himself. Sitting down on their bed, leaving a bloody handprint on their white comforter, Jack tried to sniff but he couldnât. Blood dripped down his mouth the same way it had months prior when Brock had pulled him off of the couch and all he could do was wonder to himself why he was stupid enough to stay so long.Â
âLetâs go.â Brock growled under his breath, taking hold of Jackâs bicep and forcing him to stand like he was a child. Jack shrugged him off, even going so far as to shove him away, before the two of them trudged out to their car.Â
The ride to the hospital was silent and when they got there, Jack refused to explain how it happened. It wasnât that he was trying to protect Brock, he was just so exhausted⊠He didnât have the energy to make up excuses or answer any questions.Â
Luckily, it only took fifteen minutes for a doctor to be made available for him. Unluckily, Brock followed him back into the room. And as if his broken nose wasnât punishment enough, Brock continued to berate him.Â
âYou jusâ dunno when to quit do you?â Brock growled, his arms crossed over his chest. His lip was swollen, the gash that ran through it shining angry and red. Drops of blood stained the collar of his grey shirt and in that moment the two of them stared at each other with equally intense looks of pure hatred.Â
âWhat?â Jack snapped, trying desperately to convince himself that Brock wasnât worth a trip to prison.Â
âYou donât know how to fuckinâ quit, Jack! You always do this! You piss me off, then gimme that pissy little look when I get mad! This shit wouldnât happen if you didnât get me so fucking riled up!â Brock barked and all Jack could do was laugh incredulously, disbelief filling him as he stared Brock in the eye.Â
âNo, this shit wouldnât happen if you werenât such a fucking psychopath.â Jack hissed and just like that, Brock was on him again. First, there was a knee to his ribs, then a fist under his jaw, but Jack wasnât going to lay down and let Brock beat on him anymore. Heâd finally decided that everything Brock did to him was complete and utter bullshit. It wasnât warranted and he wasnât ungrateful when he got upset about it. And for the love of God, he didnât fucking deserve it.
So he fought back. He kicked and he growled and he fought with everything he had. Landed a few good hits too. At some point, the doctor mustâve come in to the two of them fighting and called security. They pried Brock off of Jack, his eye swollen shut and his lip re-busted-open. Jack grimaced, wanting nothing more than to pounce on him while he was restrained. But the security guards were too quick to get him out of the room.
The doctor didnât ask Jack any questions, simply got him cleaned up, reset his nose, and offered him a phone to call someone. Jack accepted the offer with a grateful, albeit quiet, âthank you.â And he sat for an hour contemplating whether or not he should do what he wanted to do. He didnât really have much of a choice, though, did he?
âHello?â Answered Steveâs familiar voice over the other line.Â
âIf I ask you to come pick me up from the hospital will you promise not to ask questions?â Jack asked. He never was good at easing into a conversation.Â
âThe hospital? What happened? Are you hurt?â Steve immediately started and all Jack could do was sigh and weigh what options he would have if he decided to hang up.Â
âSteve, please.â He begged quietly. He wasnât proud of the pleading tone in his voice but he couldnât take it back. Couldnât hide it. Not anymore.
Steve didnât say anything for a long time. The quiet that fell over them was the kind that was deafening and suffocating at the same time and he wanted nothing more than to scream just to fill the space. But before he could, Steve started talking again.Â
âIâll be there.â He said softly.Â
And he was. In twenty minutes, Steve was at the hospital and the second he saw Jack, it looked like his entire world had been crushed. An odd look of knowing crossed his face as he flicked his head and without a second thought, Jack followed.
After another wordless car ride, Jack found himself in a new place. The unfamiliar space of Steveâs apartment left him feeling vulnerable and exposed, like a rabbit in a field of rabid dogs. But Steveâs gentle hand guided him and it sickened him that his mind was already waiting for that softness to be replaced with anger and pain. But nothing happened and Jack scolded himself for thinking something would.Â
They sat on the couch with the same silence that had hovered over them on the phone weighing tension on their shoulders and Jack once again felt the urge to make noise so it wouldnât feel so heavy on his chest. But just as before, Steve came to the rescue to fill the silence before Jack had to.Â
âI guess this is how Bucky always felt when he saw me all beat up.â Steve tried to chuckle and Jack couldnât help the little snort that left him.Â
âGuess so.â Jack grunted in response, sighing as he refused to meet Steveâs eye. It was then that an arm slowly wrapped around him and with cautious curiosity, Jack let it happen, willing himself not to flinch. He half expected other advances to be made but nothing ever came, and he liked it that way.Â
Steve turned the T.V. on and for a while, Jack zoned out while late night sitcoms flashed on screen with mediocre, cheesy jokes filling the quiet with a comfortable drone. And eventually, as Jack grew too tired to ignore the exhaustion any longer, he rested his head on Steveâs shoulder and found a relieving sense of peace when Steve leaned on him too.Â
And for the first time since heâd met Brock fucking Rumlow, he felt safe.

âYouâre going to have to downsize this entire thing Harry.â
Louis is standing in front of Harryâs open wardrobe, hands on his hips, and the whole thing is filling him with absolute dread.
âBut why?â Harry responds from where he is sat on his bed behind him. Louis doesnât even have to look at him to know he is pouting.
Louis presses his fingers to his temples. âBecause there isnât enough space in my flat. Youâve been there, you sleep there at least four nights a week, you know this.â
