crosshair being normal and not over-dramatic?? never! (especially not about mayday)
do you ever think about the fact that when crosshair shot lieutenant nolan, he thought it was going to be the last thing he ever did? that he thought they were going to kill him for it and he didn't care? that he was prepared to die? that he probably thought he deserved to, realising he'd been wrong the whole time, that he did horrible things for an empire which didn't care?
I'm watching the bad batch episode "the outpost" i know, i knowđ and mayday was just introduced, and he seems like he has a very leader personality like hunter does and I'm wondering if the reason crosshair takes to mayday so quickly, is because he kind of reminds him of hunterđ mayday also sounds like hunter. (which I know is funny because they're clones)
WIP Wednesday Thursday
One of the closer chapters of Call Sign coming up. The men rotate whoâs on night shift at the outpost each week.
Perimeter was secure. Beacons seemed stable. The wind hadnât even picked up to the point Mayday had any concerns about some of the outside equipment coming loose, and the snow had stopped several hours ago.
Nocturne was the last to bid him goodnight before heading down the hall towards the barracks. The unbearable quiet settled in not long after, and it took about five minutes for him to realize why it felt like something was missing.
The pilot wasnât there. Her normal setup near the terminals on the north wall was clear of the cot and any of her belongings, and he knew there was no way she could be anywhere else in the compound.
Maydayâs mood soured significantly. It shouldnât have, but there it was. He didnât know what he expected, but heâd thought she was able to at least tolerate him. There had been a bunk available to her for two weeks.
Really though, it shouldnât matter at all. What was he expecting? Late night talks with her keeping him company while he worked? It was ridiculous to even think so.
Mayday mulled over his thoughts. He wasnât really bothered by the fact she wasnât there. It was the thought that she wasnât there because of him and what heâd had to do to keep a professional working environment between them all and ensure she wasnât a liability in some way. It was the thought of exactly where she was now, as warm and comfortable as the outpost allowed.
He dragged a hand down his face. It was his own fault for that too.

A blind date
Pairing: Mayday x F!reader
Summary: after being set up on a blind date, mayday starts having second thoughtsâŚuntil he meets her.
Warnings: fluff!

Nerves. Thatâs all he felt. His foot was tapping under the taking, fingers fiddling with each other. His stomach was twisting and churning, each second ticking made more beads of sweat build up on his forehead.
A blind date. Just what he needed.
His troopers convinced him to give it a shot, and he has no idea how they got him to say yes but he did and now he was very much regretting it.
What if it was another entitled rich girl? Or a clone hater? Or even just a girl who didnât click with him? Shit shit shit. He didnât like this.
He glanced up at the door every minute, his looks getting more frantic as he started getting second thoughts. Maybe he should leave, yeah, yeah thatâs a good idea.
âHelloâ a soft voice greets, causing mayday to look up at the angel standing in front of him. âAre you mayday?â
He stared like an idiot for a solid ten seconds.
âUh..y-yes thatâs me. Hello, Miss.â he stutters, never having seen such a beautiful woman in his life!
âItâs nice to meet you.â You offer a small smile, clearly nervous.
âYesâŚsame for you.â He nods, why couldnât he function properly?
Taking a seat, you look at him. âSorry, Iâm a little nervousâ
He laughs, actually lets out a small laugh. âYeah, so am I.â
âShall we order?â You offer, picking up the menu. Mayday nods, not even bothering to read it as he was stuck in a trance. You were so beautiful and he couldnât help but stare.
âTell me about yourselfâ he finds himself saying. Shit, why did he say that? Heâs not usually thisâŚtalkative with women.
âMyself? Oh okay. Iâm a mechanic for the 104th, I like to paint and I have a cat.â You list off, a bit speechless from the handsome clone.
âSo you work with clones?â He asks.
âYes. The wolfpackâ you nod.
âAh, the wolfpack. You must be tough handling them?â He jokes, knowing how rowdy the Wolfpack can be.
Letting out a small laugh, you nod again. âYeah, tell me about it. Theyâre pretty chaotic.â
Your laugh was like a song to mayday. He wanted to listen to it all day and night.
âYou have a beautiful laughâ he blurts, regretting it immediately in embarrassment.
You falter, a slight blush coming onto your face.
âThank youâ
âAnd your cat? Whatâs its name?â
Your face lights up at the mention of your cat.
âSheâs a beautiful brown tooka, her name is honey and sheâs basically my babyâ
Mayday nods along, hands together under his chin.
Eventually the waiter asked for your orders and you gave them, the night continued. Before you knew it, it was time to go home.
âItâs getting lateâ you mention.
âYeah, I gotta get back to the barracks soonâ he nods.
âWell, this was really fun, would you like to do this again soon?â You nervously ask.
He smiles warmly. âIâd love to.â
You smile back, grabbing your things as you stood.
âIt was wonderful to meet you, mayday.â
âYou too. May I walk you home?â He offers.
âIâd like that.â
He nods, standing awkwardly as he waited for you to lead the way.
âThis wayâ you wave him down the street.
The walk was nice, you continued to chat about anything and everything. Eventually it came to an end as you approached your apartment.
âThank you. It was really nice today get out today.â
âIâm glad you did. I did tooâ mayday nods.
âWould you like to come in?â You offer.
âI gotta get back to base. But Iâd love to see you again soon?â He plays with his fingers nervously.
He feels something brush against his leg and he looks down to see a furry tooka.
âThis honey?â
âYeah, this is honey. She likes you. Thatâs good.â You smile, watching your tooka warm up to the trooper.
âIt was a pleasure today. Thank youâ he gives a small bow.
âSee you another time, mayday.â You wave.
He turns around and leaves, trying to hide the warmth on his cheeks. She was nice, perfect and beautiful. He was in love. Ironic, isnât it? The trooper who swore he wouldnât be in a relationship, falling in love.
He chuckles to himself, maybe itâs time for something new.
I read a fic recently that described Crosshair as ânot knowing many peopleâ and I just thought why notâŚ
Crosshair: Like I said, we need more help. Maybe I should call my friends. Wrecker: Your what? Crosshair: My friends. Wrecker: [to Echo] Is he saying "friends"? Tech: I think he's being sarcastic. Hunter: No, no, no. This is delirium. He's cracked from being awake all night. Hey, Cross! All your friends are in this room! Crosshair: I have other friends. You asked me to make new friends, I made new friends. It was a task. I complete tasks. Omega: That's so great. I can't wait to meet them. Echo: Cross, you listened to me. I'm so proud of you.
And then he calls Mayday
