I have come to the realization that I, together with my ADHD brain and poor time management, will never be able to write a coherent, conjoined story consisting of more than three chapters. Unless it's hyperfocus, but it's not right now.
So, the decision has been made to give zero fucks about story consistency and just write whatever the fuck my brain cooks up.
That saying, remember me mentioning the Space Adventure and Space Fights? Forget everything I've said about both, I'm writing some completely different shit. It's still cyberpunk shit, though, so that's good.
Oh yes, and the Horror Castle is in the editing process.

ik what ur thinking. overkill right??? AHA no. not when erwin's office is above our very slutty triad in their honeymoon phase. plus i HAD to know how many chairs fit around that table in Erwin's office for ch 12 when we brief for our first campaign outside the walls. stay posted and don't cry about it.
if you ask politely levi/eren/vale/erwin might willingly reply to you. é å¼µć£ć¦ļ½ļ½
looking for some feedback for the faceclaims in my cabaret spinoff fic. listed in order:
rosie, lulu, frenchie, texas, fritzie, helga, victor, bobby, hans, hermann
i don't know the names of any of these people though i will find them if need be, i just needed faces to put to the names for the sake of writing so i just perused the internet for old portraits, but i wanted to know what yall think of my choices. they all felt very quite fitting to me but im curious. just know they're all queer in some way or another. how could they NOT be.
something i want to explore in my fic is steveās relationship with his mom
i imagine that when he was really young she was very doting and adored him, sheād let him lay next to her, head in her lap while she played with his hair (she always told him his hair was beautiful, that he was such a handsome little man) but as he got a little older it was obvious that his father didnāt care for him and began to dislike him as much as his mother was the opposite
while she loved steve very much as her first and only child, she unfortunately loved her husband more and would do anything to stay within his good graces, like ignoring steve when he cried bc her husband said she wasĀ ābabying him too muchā and that he needed to learn thatĀ āreal men dont cryā
over time she learned to loathe steve and blamed him for the rift in their marriage and steve watched her cling onto a man that didnt love her
when he comes home one day to find her on the couch, not in her room, not with a bottle of wine but with half a pack of cigarettes--the other half already smoked--he knows thats something is wrong (she never let anyone smoke in the house because of the smell)
she doesnt even look at him as she invites him to sit with her, just like how they used to when he was younger. he finds himself on the floor in front of her instead, his head on her lap, her fingers in his hair and steve feels like a kid again. she tells him that his father told her he wants a divorce. they sit in relative silence as the tv plays but neither one of them is really watching
after a while she says to steve,Ā ādont ever let love ruin youā
(steve understands. but for eddie, steve understands why she let love ruin her like it did)
on a better day, maybe 2am and i hard cap at 3am lmao
Sometimes, rarely, I'd put on slow jazz music while writing but most times I would need complete silence (because it's weird to write todd having a mental breakdown to smooth jazz--)
I'm not a fast writer when it comes to multichapters because I like to plan out the current chapter in accordance with the rest of the other chapters; unlike a one shot where I dont have to worry too much about the random stuff I add haha I have more poetic freedom in one-shots while multichaps call for consistency and planning lkasjdlkjas
for the multichap, I have to double back on previously mentioned chaps just to make sure everyone is on the same page :3
right now, plan out my multichaps with a story skeleton; just like a summary/blurb per chapter so i remember the purpose of each chapter so im not going off track :D Hopefully I'm doing something right with my fics kajdlkasjd

Non-medical writing-related (ish) question. On AO3 you noted on your MacGyver fic 'Radioactive' that it was from an RP. If you don't mind, I'm curious: What is your creative process like for fics and RPs? And what is it like RPing whump-centric scenarios?
Ooh thanks for taking interest!
For fics (particularly Thin Air, Close Call + Background Noise, Safe, Chance Meeting, Bang, Rat Trap, Reed Switch + Electromagnet, etc... I'm MedicBaymax over there if anyone is interested) usually I have a fun medical concept that I think about and research for a long time. Not even like, in the fic research way, just I get really into something. For example, in Rat Trap, it's the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of warfarin, and I was thinking about it for literal years before I even started thinking about applying it to MacGyver fanfiction, and then months until I started writing the fic.
Once I do decide it's gonna be a fic then break the fic down by what events I want to happen and then what feelings I want those events to have for my readers. I come up with an opening gambit (or at least an interesting way to cause a problem for the character) and write that as the first chapter. Since the events don't usually translate directly into chapters, I basically write for 2000-ish words and try to find a natural break or cliffhanger around that point. And I keep doing that until all the events are done and the story can close.
In longer fics, I try as hard as I can not to think about the fic while I'm writing it, or else I accidentally exhaust my excitement about it and it becomes a WIP forever. I also try not to post a new chapter until I am at least one chapter ahead, so I have incentive to keep writing so that I can keep posting because I have such a great next chapter already but it's just sitting there on the word document.
For RPs, it's basically that I've talked through a certain scenario with someone (usually this is more whumpy than medical- like in Spines Allie and I just knew we wanted a scene where Jack had to pull sea urchin spines out of Mac). We also talk about where the situation will take place and if there are any logistical problems like "well why don't they just call 911??" we figure those out. We also decide what characters we will āplayā. Then one of us writes a starter that sets the scene and we trade back and forth writing paragraphs.
All the RPs on my AO3 (Alibi, Radioactive, Spines, It's Leaking!, DIY or Die Tag, and Nightmares), are directly copied and pasted without editing from Discord (Skype for earlier RPs, and while I was serving in AmeriCorps and Allie was responding to hurricane Maria it was sometimes email or even text messages d/t the lack of consistent internet for chat platforms).
As far as what it is like, it's a little like writing a fic but not all the impetus is on you to figure out what happens next. Like if you don't know whatās going to happen next you just hand it off and hope the other person has a good idea. Makes it much more likely that it will eventually finish. Plus it puts me in a time crunch because I know someone else is waiting, which helps me actually get the paragraph out.
But its definitely also like reading a fic because you don't know what's going to happen next and you get to real-time squee with the other person if they write something awesome or devastating!
Also, if you don't mind me putting this out there- I'm looking for a new RP partner. I prefer long-form, fic-like RPs with the intent to publish on AO3. Gen and canon-compliant highly, highly preferred (slightly outside this okay, like a trans headcanon or fix-it, no AUs), no sex. I really like medical realism but will fudge slightly for the sake of whump.
oooo okay! i am definitely not an expert by any means but maybe thatās even better because if i can do it, you can do it!Ā
this is the gist of myĀ āprocessā:
the first thing i do when making a moodboard is brainstorming elements to include. more specifically, i think about the most important aspects of the fic iām writing and think of how to incorporate it in the moodboard! for example, PEACHES for the peach fic was obviously something i wanted to include in the moodboard but it doesnāt have to be quite that obvious haha. if youāre including people (which i highly recommend), think about the ages/appearances of the characters in your fic (i donāt want to assume itās h&l so iām going to say characters) and find pictures that fit those ideas! for me, pinterest is a really helpful tool for finding pictures (not just of people but in general) but i also just type inĀ āharry styles 2017ā³ orĀ āharry styles age 22ā³ in the search bar to filter through pictures of him to fit the age/era he has in the fic. for objects and other pictures- i type in something likeĀ āsheets aestheticā orĀ āstudying aestheticā to find nice pictures!Ā
when you find the pictures- you have to figure out how to put them together! i personally use picsart to make my moodboards and then vsco for finishing details. picsart is really simple in my opinion once you get the hang of it, especially for basic 2x2 or 3x3 layouts! you just pick a grid, pick your photos, and fix the order to how you want it! if you want a more in depth post going through each step of that process, iād be happy to do it, let me know!! and of course you can always message me!Ā
there are also other platforms such as canva, photoshop, and more that you can use but i genuinely canāt give help for those because i donāt use them!!
the main advice for using these tools iād say is to mess around with the different options for yourself and see exactly what it does to your moodboard. experimenting is never a bad thing! it may seem overwhelming if youāve never used it but once you figure out what every button does, it makes the process a whole lot easier.Ā Ā
(there are probably youtube videos that can explain the different features much better than anything i could do so i suggest searching some up!!)Ā
the most basic features i mess around with most are: first, grid to choose the layout of the moodboard (2x2 and 3x3 are the most common for me and 3x3 is pretty standard in general- thatās 9 pictures!) then ratio which i actually donāt really use but iām pointing it out in case you donāt want a typical square shape moodboard! picsart also (helpfully) includes pre-sized options for instagram, twitter, youtube, pinterest, and facebook posts. no tumblr but i feel like square or 3:2 works best for tumblr anyway. borderĀ lets you decide if you want a border between and around the pictures or not and then background lets you pick a color for that border. i donāt normally use borders but i do like the way they look especially if it matches colorwise!
you can also edit individual photos so they appear more cohesive and similar in the overall moodboard. the basic features that i tend to use are opacity which helps especially if some pictures are more vivid/bold/idk how to describe it compared to some more faded ones. also adjust has all the basic photo editing things: cropping, brightness, contrast, saturation, etcetera etcetera. thatās where most of the time is spent. when you finish with that, you hitĀ ānextā and can edit the entire moodboard as a single photo! i donāt spend a ton of time here- maybe adding some text or tweaking the lighting a bit, but most of the time, iām finished!
and then i save the moodboard, maybe head to vsco to mess with the lighting and filters again, save that final moodboard and then iām finished! again iām totally an amateur when it comes to editing things but i do think some of the moodboards iāve made are pretty decent so hopefully this can help!
some examples of moodboards iāve made using picsart/vsco:
this one ^ is one of the non-square ones iāve done!! this is theĀ ā3:2ā² option underĀ ratio
a 2x2 one iāve done!!! ^ actually really like this one <3
i pretty much just rambled on and probably got off topic but i genuinely hope this helps!! and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!!! some people who make lovely moodboards (much more impressive than mine) that you can also potentially ask are @tomlinvelvet-ao3 , @behisoneandonly , and @lovelylou!!Ā Ā
