Fiance..............

What........?? 

The word passes straight through her head, filtering in and out of her ears. There's no level of comprehension here -- none, whatsoever -- and she blinks back at them, face blank. And even when they delicately explain it to her, her expression doesn't change. In fact, she just gets more confused.

Because isn't marriage for adults? For people who love each other? Or at least, that's what all the storybooks say. And one things for sure -- Mary doesn't love this Jude fellow. Or at least that's what she thinks but love is something well beyond her at this point. Well....the love made for princes and princesses that is...

It just doesn't make. sense.

Her mind spins around the idea but every attempt to reach out and decipher it, she's thrown another loophole, leaving her even more dazed and confused than before.

"Waaahhh....." She hears herself through the thickness but even explained again, it's something Mary just can't wrap her head around. The harder she tries, the dizzier she gets. And she doesn't like it one bit.

But there's nothing she can do about it now. Or at least that's what she's getting from all this talk. It's a done deal -- no questions asked. And that's what gets her heart pounding, her body shaking. Even now as she sits on a park bench she's trembling, sinking down in her seat just a little as she waits for him to come.
