part 2 of my loose fancast/fc list, see pt 1 for main cast and my steps. not Fully there but they all do have the energy I'm looking for to a strong degree that i can then tweak when I draw them. Some fcs I did not find first and simply adopted from others (see below)
Sentinel - Sean Patrick Thomas (with higher cheekbones. i esp like the grey in his beard to match his temples in his boys gen v role)
buuuut honorable mention to Ellia Green who is an actual trans man that retired from his rugby career to transition and became a dad during that time (ty for finding him @cigarettesandinevitablebetrayal <3)
Blaze - 90s Alfred Molina (i know it does diverge a little from the description of him having "hair as fastidiously maintained as ortega's" in retri ch 16 BUT chen does deserve a decent heartthrob to have had a brief thing with while still being in arguably discount ricardo territory lol)
Halabi - actually having second thoughts on Sreemoye Chattoraj (Bengali Indian, left) whom I used for the first Halabi art I did and being an indecisive mf taking aspects instead from Sabah Jazairi (middle, Syrian)? and then the wildcard of Shohreh Aghdashloo (right, actually Iranian) who I do sometimes think of as a fun voiceclaim for halabi lol and the deepset eyes. either way i do picture halabi as a mid-plus sized hijabi with moles, deepset eyes emphasized by kohl eyeliner, full apple cheeks and the frown lines around the mouth + just generally fuller faced the way Sreemoye is in the below pic. still workshopping her face but swana/desi aunty energy for sure.
Sunstream - Auli'i Cravalho (matches up with the wavy hair thing and imo she'd look pretty cool with the faintly glowing eyes)
Pyroclast - Brett Goldstein (@pyroclaststan thank you this guy's an excellent nazar o7)
Locus - Ayo Edebiri (i don't think i need to say anymore just look at her)
Mia - Brianne Tju (short hair or bob with minimal makeup for Mia always, just hard to find more Tju outside of the film these are from w/o makeup and/or long hair lmao)
Sorrow is pronounced sore-oh. They live for the dramatics and live by the bit
This is mostly an excuse to flesh out how they interacted with Ashfall (and trying to understand what Ashfall was/is like)
Spotless mirror and a drippy sink with a broken drain. A bucket underneath that wetley clacks between Sorrow's shoe and the wall when they lean a little closer. Locked in eye contact with their own reflection. Once-white grout lines and a stall covered in yellow warning tape that smells a little weird when walking past it.
Sorrow taps the mirror. Using their nail to scrape at a tiny imperfection on the mirror surface. Smiling when they hear Ashfall elbow the stall wall and curse. Hands in the air and only partially in the way of their spandex suit.
"Why don't you ask the Marshal for a new suit?" They quip, now focused on a new freckle right below their dimple. "I mean, you look alright in it but also it seems easier for looser clothes—"
"I need to be able to fight without being grabbed, Sidestep." He cusses again, Sorrow harrumphs. Both of them are pretty sure Charge wasn't supposed to give Sidestep such a piece of official-superhero-wear, but it's no different from letting the local vigilante and unofficial hero sit in for confidential Ranger business either. "You don't have to stay here," Ashfall tries, "you can leave."
They hum. Letting the hint he dropped splat on the floor. Throwing their backpack on the counter and pulling themselves up to sit on the ledge and kicking their official Sidestep shoes off. "Who would bother you, then? Who am I supposed to bother? Steel? He's already swung at me."
Semi-true. Steel had actually swung the door shut on them when Sorrow had tried to follow him into the conference room for the first time. They were only semi-paying attention to their surroundings and more caught up in how the tiles looked artificial and chewing a piece of the inside of their cheek. Sorrow claimed he broke their nose. Steel claimed bullshit and someone should actually break their nose. Well, Steel actually said they should feel what an actual broken nose feels like from pissing everyone off, Sorrow claimed he meant it differently.
"Besides," they press on, taking their mask off and putting a pair of jeans and shotty sneakers on, "who would take you to dinner?"
"Excuse you?"
"Excuse accepted—Charge invited us to dinner as a congratulatory—"they pause for emphasis—"getting the villain cuffed and in the police car."
Ashfall sighs. "Even though she still escaped?"
Sorrow tosses his contacts in the sink. Unbothered and unmoored as they put away their container and exchange it for their dinky glasses. Giving a faux smile and shaking their blonde hair out. "Even though she still escaped." Blinking hard, they make their way over to the stall Ashfall is in. Clasping his arms hard the moment the door opens. Grinning at his obvious surprise and discomfort.
"Sidestep—"
"Sorrow is fine."
"Sorrow—"
"I'll show you to the restaurant. I told Julia if she takes us to Hoots again I'd tell her boy-toy about why his stupid family heirloom actually broke."
Sorrow claps Ashfall's shoulders more hard than needed. Making their way towards the door and in a janky motion to take the screwdriver out of the lock. Something the owners might bill them for, if ever caught.
