Took a lot of searching through my drafts but here’s the juicy bit <3
They’re held in place by wind, Night Yorb weak but holding on tightly. Every time they try to banish it, it just resists and holds on tighter. It’s a stalemate, neither parties risking a blow on the other.
Riz’s brain is running through every idea he possibly has, until the buzz under his skin tells him how the Night Yorb is still holding onto the physical plane, “Guys! I have an idea!”
“What is it?!” Adaine has to yell over the wind as everyone’s heads swivel over to him, eyes hopeful as Riz pulls through once again.
“Kristen! Do you have another banishment in you?!” Riz looked at her, hoping this plan could come together.
“Y-Yeah! How are you gonna make it work?!” Kristen raised her hands, ready to do the motions when signaled.
“Do you have enough for a revivify too?!” Riz tried not to catalogue the confused look on her face as she shook her head, confirming that this banishment was all she had left in her, “Fig, what about you?!”
Fig looked even more confused, trying to read Riz but the task remained impossible, “Uh- No?!”
Riz nodded his head and looked away from his friends, hands shaking, “Good! You guys trust me, right?!”
“We’d be dead if we didn’t!” Fabian spoke for the group while rolling his eye, finding the question stupid.
“If this doesn’t work, I love you guys!” Riz leaves out the fact that he’s going to want to have to said this even if it does work.
“We love you too! Spring break!” Everyone joined Gorgug to finish the mantra they’ve been repeating for a year, “I believe in you!”
Riz took a deep breath, squeezing his eyes shut as he mentally prepared, “Finish casting it no matter what Kristen! On my signal!”
Gorgug was the only one who noticed. He noticed how Riz’s hands curled around his gun. He noticed how Riz shouted go and waited till Kristen’s hands were already moving to whip it up. He wasn’t the only one who noticed any more, Fabian was trying to run with him but the wind kept them moving far too slow and Riz is always faster than them anyway.
Three things happen at once. A gunshot, the Night Yorb disappearing with a boom of thunder, and the wind stopping completely. Three more things follow that immediately. The sound of Riz’s body hitting the ground, every Bad Kid racing to his side, and the clatter of diamonds being roughly shoved out of their bags.
Kristen and Fig are both on their knees, shakily speaking out their separate incantations of revivify as their hands move in the same motions over and over. It’s well after the whole minute has passed, growing close to ten minutes as if if they tried hard enough they could cast it as a ritual spell. When they finally stopped, tears were sliding down their cheeks and mixing with the bloodstains all over his suit.
Anon I know literally asked for it but STILL AHHGG!!!!!!!!! YES!!! this scene is absolutely devastating I love it woah. Making sure Kristen and fig don't have enough for revivify, the banishment, agghhhg. They trust him so much instantly!!!!!!!! Wow.
Next scene. Riz's dad is SO mad at him but we all know he would have done the exact same thing in that situation and he knows it too and maybe that's why he is as mad about it as he is. Sklonda and the bad kids are going to tear everything apart to get him back I swear. And Pok is there with him like hey maybe we don't do that next time but let's scour through these laws Abt death to find a loophole. And the bad kids are like freaking out on Spyre going through this whole quest to get him back. Ohhhh. This is so fun and tasty and crunchy. Yum! AAAAHHGGGH!!!! YES.
