Do you ever think Cid was Regis' Prompto? Like, Regis has Clarus Amicitia, his shield. He'll have grown up with Clarus just like Noct will have grown up with Gladio, its always been the Shield's job, from birth. And the Amicitia's are nobles. Then you have Weskham, playing the role of Ignis. A posh, put together man who probably acted as advisor to Regis. Again, probably growing up with him. And then there's Cid. In the side game King's Tale (I think that's what it's called I'll check later lol) Cid is still dressed as a mechanic, so we know he's not really someone from royalty, but he clearly has fighting skills and works well with Regis and the others (if a bit edgy with Weskham) so obviously he's close friends with the group. And I just wonder what forced them all to separate. Because when Regis dies, Cid expresses regret at not seeing him again. And Clarus was the only one who stood by Regis as his Shield, the role of advisor possibly being filled by Ignis' illusive Uncle once Weskham sails off to open his own wine bar. I wonder if Noctis worries that the same will happen to him and his friends. That he'll claim the throne, marry Luna, rule over Insomnia and lose Prompto, who may fade into the background being less important than the nobility Noct will have to schmooze, maybe lose Ignis who has looked after him his whole life and wants a life of his own. Maybe even lose Gladio who will fall into the role of Shield so far that he loses the easygoing companionship. OR, maybe it's Prompto who worries he'll turn out like Cid. Forgotten by Noct, living on the outskirts of Insomnia, always telling himself "I'll visit this summer, next week, soon, I'll visit soon" and never following through, until one day he just gives up on the idea. Maybe Prompto worries that the first ever true group of friends he's ever had will split on him one day, circumstance forcing them apart. Because hey, it's only natural right? He's a pleb amongst nobility, right? But here's the kicker. All this time Noctis worries about his friends eventually parting ways and leaving. Who would have thought it would be Noct that left them? First for ten years while they struggle to live in an awful world. And then once again, but this time there's no coming back. And the Shield has no one to shield, and the advisor has no one to advise and Prompto loses his best friend and regrets the time they could have spent together, just like Cid and Regis. I'm going to sleep now...
