I had a dream last night that I had received two fanfiction reviews. One was an enormously long review written in the style of a Renaissance-era fantasy story (there were a lot of “miladys” in it). The other just said, “You’re the best writer, with the best stories, and the best ideas!”

My subconscious is either a Harlequin romance writer or an orange Cheeto, evidently.

Wait, WHAT?!

Fanfiction.net automatically REMOVES email alerts every 90 days? You have to LOG IN and TURN THEM BACK ON every fucking THREE MONTHS?

I mean the site's been a bot nest for a few years at this point, but... being notified when authors update is... It's a core fandom experience. It's the only way to let readers know when writers post new writings. Why does it automatically REMOVE THAT?

Putting this one in the main tags actually because I got caught VERY off-guard about this, and I don't know how many tumblr users also still use ffdn... but this is genuinely demoralizing. And I have too much ADHD to think I'll be remembering to opt back in to EMAIL ALERTS for people I've ALREADY SUBSCRIBED TO four times a year.

On the bright side, it's a simple radio / toggle button on your Settings page.

(I have my web browser fullscreen, it's right under the row that tells you about your URL information like penname, account #, etc.)

Easy peasy.

I'll just have to set a fricking calendar notification I guess...

Because TWICE this MONTH, I’ve gotten two “users” adding DDD to their favorites. Which is bizarre, because it’s a story about an OC in a fandom that’s essentially dead at this point, not to mention it’s only had two updates in the past five years, despite being published in 2007. Also, it’s a 129k MONSTER.

Then, when I go to visit the profile, it’s actually not on their (stuffed-to-500-stories) favorites list. There are no words on the profile. And most damning of all: the “user” handle is a word with numbers at the end. Pretty sure nobody actually uses that format anymore. 

(loosecat, i know you’re not a bot, but I’m pretty sure you’re an exception to the rule.)

tl;dr I’ve come to the conclusion that BOTS are faving my stories.
