oh man babe this is a tough one. stuff like this is never pleasant, and around the holidays, it's bound to crop up for all of us with greater frequency. here's some choice phrases to shut down the racist, hate-mongering cop lovers in your life.

these protesters you're fighting so hard to degrade are the same people [your officer] swore to protect and serve. either that oath means something to [your officer], or it doesn't. there is no in between.

worried about [your officer's] safety? it is safer now to be a police officer than it's ever been. when it comes to the top 10 most dangerous jobs in the country, police officer doesn't even make the list. meanwhile, police kill upwards of an average 400 unarmed americans every year, and that number is on the rise.

even police officers know how racist and violent their fellow police officers are. if [your officer] were "one of the good ones", they would be protesting too. staying silent or standing by their fellow officers makes them complicit in their heinous actions.

the economist found that in 2 years, police officers in england and wales fired their guns only 4 times. that means that, over the course of 2 years and while policing 57 million people, officers in england and wales fired their guns fewer times than darren wilson did in a single afternoon.

valuing police lives over the lives of unarmed civilians is literally the exact opposite of what we pay the police to do.

if you truly respected the justice system, you would be outraged that nationwide, police officers have elected themselves judge, jury, and executioner of american citizens who haven't even been convicted of a crime.

"[murder victim] was a petty criminal?" we don't execute people for petty crime in the us. you're thinking of pre-revolution france in les mis.

there's a word for executing black and brown folks without a trial. it's called "lynching". 

ever wonder what it would've been like to live during the civil rights era? congratulations: you are. how does it feel to know you're NOT siding with the oppressed (aka MLK, malcolm x, rosa parks)?

okay, it's not always the police's fault. however, i'd like to direct you to the stanford prison experiment.

in the experiment, they took random men and divided them in groups; the prisoner and the prison guards. they set up a prison area and the prison guards set up a rotation for who guarded the area and when.

this experiment interviewed the men beforehand and made sure it was as controlled as possible. however, the planned two week experiment ended after just six days because "our guards became sadistic." 

the experiment didn't choose specific men to raise to a position of power. it was randomized within the group for the experiment. 

the real world application is loud and obvious; if a policeman is given a gun and raised as an officer 'to serve and protect' the general public and can't even be touched or refused without reprimand, what does this create? it creates a power dynamic that's undeniable, and only strengthened by racial tension.

just a few years prior to mike brown's shooting, (warning: graphic image) a black man was beaten by officers in ferguson and then charged with "property damage" because he bled on their uniforms. 

three of the fifty three members of the ferguson police force are black, while 67% of the population there is black. 

did you know that there is no effort to record unjustifiable homicides by the police? 

how about the number of unarmed black men killed by police in the last month?
