in the end, it does not matter. 

how does one comprehend the power that turns the sea over, that rips the air apart and pulls life up from roots, that disregards your prayers with thunder’s loud judgement?

she is a force of nature and he does not run from the whirlwind she becomes whenever it rages. she is:

eyes that sink ships, splinter and ruin him, her mouth life giving even as she pulls him down and down and-

the shock of lightning bursting from her skin, invading his veins and lungs until he is fire and smoke and hallowed out. 

hips that shake foundations, that move him even when he cannot hold on, swallowing like landslides.

the torrent that fills him and he drinks from her, drowning and never wanting for air only more and more and-

what is hers will always be hers, marked, like the tree that remembers the strike, the ground that burns and is remade anew, the land weathered by her unrelenting love.

I’m behind on this August Writing Challenge because of my vacation, so let’s see if I can catch up and finish before the end of the month! First up, Fenfel! :)

Day One - Shameless Fluff

He has been bewitched.

It is the only logical explanation for why he is currently stuck in this department store on Black Friday as a mass of people brush his arms, their voices a buzz above the sad holiday music crooning from speakers. He remembers agreeing to all this easily enough last night - the idea was hard to argue with dinner heavy in his stomach and her kisses light against his jaw. It even seemed like a good idea when she woke him up before the frozen dawn with a smile and a warm coffee awaiting. 

Now, as a woman argues loudly over cents with a cashier and a child wails in front of an empty shelf, as an electric light flickers above him and makes his eye twitch and his arm strains under the bags of stuff she’s bought, he has many regrets. He’s managed to keep his frustrations mostly inside, save for a scowl he knows will take a few hours to chip away and this tension coiled tight in his shoulders, but as another person stumbles into him he can’t last must longer. “Fen, can we go?”

“But you barely got anything,” she says, gesturing to the small bags with a few things for his family.

“Cyber Monday exists. I’ll get what I need then.” She pouts, batting eyes that seem impossibly large, but before she can say anything Felix places his hand over her mouth. He won’t be tricked again. “Don’t even try it. Let’s go.” 

He feels her smirk against his palm. “Fiiiine,” she says as she peels it away. “You lasted far longer than I thought you would anyway. Good job.”

“Uh, thanks.”

A peck against his cheek and there’s a few cracks around his frown. “And thanks for coming with me.”

They almost make it out of the store. He can see the light of day through smudged doors in front of the hardware section, feel the winter breeze battling against the stuffy heating system. Already his mind is well beyond the mall and back at home where he plans on plopping down on the couch for awhile with a few leftovers from yesterday. His escape is waylaid, however, as Fenera pulls sharp on his arm and tugs him towards the bustling check out lines. 

“What are these?”

She points to a bin overflowing with red devices and picks one up to wave in front of his face. It takes him a moment to recognize it, what with her flailing and his agitated mind. “It’s a stud finder. You put them against the wall and they beep when they find one so you can hang things or doing construction.”

“Oh.” Fenera stares between him and the finder for a moment before gently placing it on his chest. When she moves it over his heart she makes a beeping noise, grin way too pleased. “Found my stud.”

Felix groans and stomps away. “Maker help me. I’m leaving. I’m leaving you.”

Her dramatic nooo follows after him, dissolves into bright laughter as she attaches herself to him again, and he does his best to not break, but it is too difficult to keep his smile from betraying the bubble of affection and amusement rising in his chest. “Admit it, that was good. I’m the best.”
