//pokes// FeliFeli and something about one not recognizing the other maybe??
Thank you! Ā as before, many more sentences, but just a quick fic.
OHhhhhhkay, well this was the idea I had!Ā once Iād gone through amnesia, violinmaker!feli (something for another time though!), tragedy, and ghosts, this was the next idea I had. Itās a littleā¦. well, youāll see.Ā (and Iām afraid they might be a little OOC but I tried my best.)
Also the exact nature of the AU (((or even if it is AUā¦))) is nicely open to questionā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦!Ā

"There is no class today!" the painter calls out, but the knock on the studio door is repeated.
"Can I come in anyway?" someone asks.
The painter considers.Ā āDo I owe you money, signore?ā
"No."
"Come in and welcome!"
"Do I know you?" he asks.
"I donāt think so," says the stranger warily.Ā He is of a small, neat stature, with very yellow hair above his dark and shabby clothes.Ā "I wanted to see you painting."
"Ooh, a fan!Ā I would greet you properlyāand offer you sweets and coffee!Ā But as you see I am painting right now.Ā And it would be a very bad habit for me to keep food and drink in the studio, I would quickly become a very fat painter!Ā Or a very dead painter, with paint and other definitely not-edible things near to hand, and itās very easy to lose track when Iām concentrating, hm.Ā Right now I must continue to paint while the light from the window⦠would you mind taking, ah, three steps to the left? Grazie.āĀ He looks up from his easel again.Ā āYou wonāt be bored?Ā Have a look around if you like!ā
"Thanksā¦"
"Ahābut, just there, donāt moveāthe lightā¦"
"Ohā¦"Ā The stranger looks about his very immediate surroundings and lights on a small table covered, as is every surface in the room, with a heavy dusting of papers and sketches.Ā He flicks through the pile and stops at a rather poor charcoal of a horse in motion, drawn by an artist whose ambition outstripped his talent.Ā "Hey, look, itās one of mine."
"Hm?Ā But⦠youāve never been to one of my classes, or been here before?"
The stranger frowns down at the smudgy horse, chewing his lower lip.Ā āā¦It doesnāt matter,ā he mutters at last.Ā āThe thing is, as soon as I leave today youāre going to forget all about me.Ā I was here before.Ā But something happened and now everyone forgets, like I donāt exist.ā
The painterās brush deposits a blob of yellow in his chestnut hair as his hand flies instinctively to his mouth.Ā āIt does matter!Ā How terribly lonely that must be.ā
āYeah.Ā Wait.āĀ The strangerās brow furrows.Ā āWhat?Ā You believe me?ā
"Surely!Ā Why wouldnāt I?"
"Why would you, it sounds crazy.ā
"Well, Iām an artist."Ā He makes a little bow.Ā "Were we friends?"
"I think so."
The painter is torn between his easel and a desire to skip over and catch the stranger up in a messy painty hug.Ā He makes a few more quick strokes on the canvas.Ā āI supposeā¦ā he begins, āhave you ever heard of these stories, and there is a curse, from the gods, or a witch, or someone else, you understandā¦Ā You sound to me like youāre under a curse!Ā And so, shall I kiss you?Ā If you think that would help, I wouldnāt mind trying it.Ā I wouldnāt mind anyway.ā
"Ohh, you are such a crazy artist.Ā And such a Florentine.Ā You suggested that before!ā
"Did I?"
"Yes!"
"Andā¦" He smiles mischievously, "did we?Ā It isnāt fair if you remember and I donāt, I want a full poetic description of the entire thing, Iām going to paint itā"
"No!" the stranger interrupts, flushing darkly and looking away.Ā "Like you said, you wouldnāt remember so, so it wouldnāt be fair.Ā And.Ā Anyway."
"ā¦if we never tried it, how do we know that it might not break the curseā¦?"
āItās not like that!!ā the stranger explodes.Ā āAnd itās not funny.ā
"Oh, no," the painter says, instantly contrite.Ā "I know.Ā Itās not funny at all."Ā He concentrates on his painting for a while in silence.
"This sucks," the stranger mutters.Ā "Every time I leave you, it gets harder.Ā Youāre always so nice and friendly even though Iām just no one.Ā Like, youād be amazed at how many people are less than fine with letting a random stranger in for tea and dolci."
"Then, do you have to leave?"
"Yes."
"Letās have a drink and something to eat first."
"I thought you were busy painting?"
The painter takes a deep breath, in and out.Ā āItās finished,ā he says.Ā āCome and see.Ā I admit I was kind of keeping you talking while I just finished the last things.ā
The feet of the easel screech on the tiled floor as he angles it around.Ā
The stranger looks at the paintingāand out of it.
The face in the picture a little fuller, less wan, his hair still brighter, and the painterās brush has rekindled the dying embers of light in his eyes into blazing green flame, but it is indisputably the same face.Ā He looks at once older and eternally young, like an angel, and like the angels need to reassure us ādo not fear" he instantly commands reverence.Ā
"But you canāt have done all this just now," the stranger breathes.
"No.Ā Iāve been working on it for weeks, a month."
"Thenā¦"Ā The stranger sinks down onto a stool with his hands over his mouth.Ā
"I donāt remember you," the painter says, "I donāt remember you with my mind, and thatās strange, and Iām so so sorry, but I remember you with my eyes.Ā With my heart.Ā My paintbrush remembers you."
"This is amazing.Ā Thatās me.Ā Thatās totally me, right there, like, on a really good day.Ā And, Iāve never seen you painting before.Ā You did that when I wasnāt here.Ā You remember me!ā
"Yeah!Ā Hey, are you feeling alright?Ā I forgot, I was going to get you sweeties and things, you must be hungry!Ā Hm, firstā¦"Ā Quick as a flash he picks up his paintbrush and dabs two spots of paint on the strangerās face.Ā "Bit of colour in your cheeks."
"Heyy."
"Sorry, I wanted to do that.Ā Since I canāt kiss you!Ā Iāll help you wash it off."
"Nah, itās fine. Itāll be a talking point for whichever other of my friends that donāt remember me I meet today."
"Maybe Iāll remember you next time, properly."
"Maybe.Ā I donāt think so.Ā Will you⦠are you going to sell the painting?"
"Never.Ā Iāll keep it here.Ā Iāll keep it on the wall and look at it everyday."
"Thank you.Ā But⦠thatāll be pretty strange for you though, right?Ā Iāll just be there like haunting you, this face you canāt place."
"You do haunt me," the painter whispers.Ā "I donāt remember you, but I do know you.Ā Iām sorry for whatās happened to you."
"It doesnāt matter.Ā I mean, Iāll fix it, I definitely will.Ā I meanāit isnāt your fault."
"I wish I could do something to help."
"Heh.Ā Iām pretty sure you already have."
