Okay, you inspired me to dust off my tablet. I don't see myself fitting them into the story proper, so for fun, here's Fei, Aeon, and Jess. Uh, keep in mind that I haven't watched either of these specials:

I deviated from the "sort of but not a school uniform" for Fei cuz I think she deserves some funky cool CLAMP fashion. she's too good for the boring jeans and tshirt they gave her, though if she's tight on money then it makes some sense.

In this AU, Aeon totally knows what she's doing with her naked and weird named angel. She's having a big laugh behind that vacant smile when people kick up a fuss. At least in tHIS universe, she's just a doll!

《山海经》 is a compilation of mythic geography and beasts and was believed to have been written during the Warring States period (475–221 BC) of China's history, although the authorship is contested and the current version was probably revised and edited in the Han Dynasty. Fangs of Fortune derives much of its lore from this book, including the physical descriptions of creatures and the battle between Ying Long and Bing Yi and the relationship between characters like Li Lun and Ying Zhao.

What i like about a lot of asian media that concerns itself with people who are imbued with immense power, is that its more concerned with how they operate under that power than with the moral implications of how they use it.

Whenever we have this kind of situation in western media, its always important from the get go that we show the hero/heroine being very much committed to using their powers for Good. It posits that we should care about them because they are Good People who are grappling with the implications of this Power they have; but will always do the Right Thing in the end. But asian media sees power as this Neutral thing; where the wielding of it is allowed a lot more latitude than in Western media.

For example, in Wu, we are positioned to think of Niran and Fei as the Good Guys and Li Pou [ Krists character] as the Bad Guy. However if we're being fair; neither Niran or Fei are technically "Good Guys " are they?

After all, Niran basically sells his skills to the highest bidder no matter what they ask of him, as long as he gets paid at the end. Fei is with the PM , not because he's a good man trying to serve his country but because she wants power and being his personal seer helps enhance hers. Early on we are shown that these two are aware of the immense power they wield and still use it for personal gain, but the show doesnt show them as being the Bad guys because we believe that they have an innate capacity for goodness [ and because relative to Li Pou they are less horrifying ]

But I do think this framing allows us to have more interesting discussions of how their power has shaped Niran, Fei and Li Pou. About where their boundaries lie and what their power has evolved into. Its also interesting to note how they think of their powers : Niran and Li Pou seem to think of their powers as something they borrow [Niran from nature and Li Pou from powerful spirits ] while Fei seems to consider her being a Wu as something innate. As something she has a claim on ; as something that she is. It probably also explains why Fei works to increase her power while Niran and Li Pou use their powers as a means to an end.
