Danneel followed Jensen into their bedroom. Â
âBaby?â She caught up to him and pulled at his arm to turn him around. Â Finally seeing his face, she noted the dark circles and puffy eyes. Â âIâm sorry it was hard,â she pulled him into her. Â âItâs okay.â
âI had a panic attack, and I-â he stopped. Â âIâm so tired.â Danneel rubbed his back. Â She stayed quiet for a moment. Â
âItâs okay. Â No worries.â She felt his muscles stiffen. Â âBreathe,â Danneel whispered. Â âYouâre here with me, and I love you. Â What do you see right now?â She backed up from him to look at his face. Â âJensen?â
âUmm. Â You, the wood floor, the bed, the fan, and the door.â
âGood boy,â she smiled. Danneel interlaced her fingers with his and guided him to the bed. âSit down,â she gently stood over him as he lowered himself to a seated position on the bed.
âI-â he tried to explain himself. Â âI need to go to the brewery for the meeting with the investors-â
âShh. Gino can take care of it. Â Let me help you. No talking, okay?â She looked up at him and smiled. âLet me do it. You relax.â Danneel undressed Jensen and retrieved his pajamas for him.
âI can do it,â he whispered.
âYou can, but you wonât.â Danneel changed his clothes as he sat there. Standing up to pull his pajama bottoms on, he hugged her again. âGo take a nap, babe.â His wife pulled back the blankets and walked to her closet. He saw her walk back with an old teddy bear with its nose ripped off. âHere, Mr. Teddy will help.â Blankly he laid himself down.
âI donât need it,â he tried to refuse.
âYes, you do. Iâll put him right here for you. Rest,â Danneel put the bear in her place on the bed. âSleep.â She kissed his nose and left the room. Â
_________
Jensen walked down the stairs at ten in the evening after his nap. Â At the same time, YN walked inside with her FBBC employee tshirt on. Â
âHow come youâre home so late? Werenât you here when I came home?â Jensen ran a hand over his tired and groggy face. Â
âSomeone called out. Â Had to waitress tonight.â She threw her bag against the wall and followed Jesen into the living room where they crashed on the couch. Â âYou okay?â
âYeah. I think so. Â Howâd you do serving?â
âIâve been doing it on and off. Â I know the menu and all that. Â It was fine.â
âYou have?â Jensen looked to her.
âYeah. Youâre deflecting. Â Youâre really tired.â YN observed his body language. âPanic attack, Iâm guessing.â
âHow did you know?â
âYou were tired. Â You never get tired. Â And itâs really hard. At least sometimes.â YN shrugged. Â
âYeah. I needed to sleep.â Â
âItâs okay. Â Sometimes thatâs a good thing.â
âI cried, and itâs exhausting. Â I donât cry.â Jensen dismissed her.
âJensen.â YN caught his attention. Â âCrying isnât bad and you know it. Â Iâm not having this conversation with you. Â Glad youâre okay though.â Â YN hugged Jensenâs side. Â
âSorry. Â I wonder where Dee went.â Jensen looked around him. Â
âPadalecki house. Â She and Gen were going to do a craft or bake or something.â Â YN stated. Â
âMaybe they made me pie,â Jensen grinned. Â
âSelfish, much?â YN giggled. Â
âYou should go to bed.â Jensen told her. Â He felt her relax against him. Â
âItâs Friday! Â Iâm fine.â
âYouâre falling asleep against me, I can feel you.â
âCan we watch a movie? Â I know youâre going to be up a while.â
âYeah, fine. Â Braveheart?â Jensen suggested a movie. Â
âThat makes me nauseated. Letâs watch something funny. Minions?â
âUgh. Â Fine.â Jensen playfully rolled his eyes. Â âGet it on the screen. Â Iâll make some popcorn.â Â Jensen stood up and left the room. Â
âââââ
âBed, both of you,â Danneel nudged the two on the couch. YN startled awake. Jensen felt YN move away from him.
âHuh?â
âBed. Come on.â Danneel put her hands out to help YN and Jensen off the couch.
âGood night,â YN walked up the stairs.
ââââ
Jared was sitting at the kitchen island when YN entered.
âHey Pads,â she sighed.
âMorning, weâre going for a run, you wanna go?â
âYes, sheâs going. Get changed and brush your teeth,â Jensen answered for her. She narrowed her eyes at him. âYou make me go to therapy, I want you to get your energy out. Iâd say fair trade,â he devilishly smiled.
âCome on, Jensen,â YN whined.
âIâve seen you getting anxious. I know your counselor told you it would be good for you. Come on, get your stuff. 2 minutes.â
âWhatever,â YN turned and trudged up the stairs.
The two grown men chuckled.
âLetâs go!â Jensen yelled up the stairs. YN came barreling down.
âDo I have to?â YN groaned sarcastically.
âYes,â the boys answered in unison. She grinned.
________
âI gotta walk and take a break, I havenât ran in a while,â YN huffed. Â She slowed on the trail. Â
âNuh uh. Â Weâll slow down. Â We gotta keep going though,â Jared stated.
âI havenât run hundreds of miles like you two.â YN defended herself. Â
âYeah, me too.â Jensen slowed. Â
âCome on, bud,â Jared encouraged. Â
âNo, I canât.â Jensenâs breath quickened. Â Jared, ahead of the other two, didnât stop but asked them to keep going. Â
âJared, stop.â Â YN called. Â The tallest one turned around. Â âJensen!â He ran to his friend who was grabbing at his own chest. Â
âPanic attack,â YN told Jared. Â âHad one yesterday.â
âOkay, buddy.â Jared said calmly. âGive me your jacket, YN.â YN pulled the piece of clothing from around the waist and lied it down and put it against a tree. Â Jared slowly helped Jensen lean against it so that the shirt was like a barrier between his head and the bark of the tree. Â
âUghnf.â Jensen stated. Â
âI know. Â Feel the dirt. Â Squeeze my hand,â Jared prompted. Â YN watched as Jensen grabbed the granules around him. Â âGround yourself, Â No, donât close your eyes. Â Look at YN. Â Tell me how sheâs feeling.â Â YN took her cue to smile.
âSheâs happy.â
âGood.â
YN made a silly face, and Jensen laughed. Â
After a few minutes of resting and help from YN and Jared, they pulled him up off the ground. Â Jared dusted Jensen off.
âOkay, letâs go.â Jensen started running ahead of them. Â
âNo, dude. Â Weâre walking. Donât act all tough.â Jared caught up with him. Â
âSorry.â
When they arrived back at the Acklesâ home, Danneel saw Jensenâs face. Â She looked to Jared, and he nodded. Â
âGo take a shower, babe.â
âI- I, I canât.â His hip hit the corner of the table and lost his footing. Â He caught himself before he fell.
âCome on. â Jared put his shoulder under Jensenâs armpit and guided him to a downstairs bathroom and sat him on the toilet lid. Â
âWhat happened?â Danneel walked to YN. Â
âPanic attack on the trail. Â He will be okay.â
âI know, it just makes me sad that he is going through that.â
âDee?â Jared walked back into the kitchen.
âYeah?â
âI think he needs to sit for a second, but heâll need help cleaning up. Â Heâs out of it, but heâs okay. Â Can I grab a shower upstairs?â
âYeah. âCourse.â Danneel passed Jared and kissed him on the cheek. Â âThank you.â
As she left, Jared looked over to YN. Â
âYou gonna be okay?â
âYep, Iâll be fine. Â Iâm going to go clean up in my room.â YN shrugged. Â âSee ya in a few.â
The two walked to their respective showers. Â
âJensen, Iâm going to help you,â Danneel started to undress him. Â He moved his foot out of the way, scaring her, making her fall on her rear. Â âJENSEN! Â You almost kicked me!â
âI canât⌠I donât know whatâs going on with me!â Danneel slowly stood up and watched Jensenâs facial expression.  She opened her arms and pulled his head and neck against her abs to hug him.  She felt him relax against her. Â
âBreathe.â
âIâm sorry.â
âYouâre fine.â Danneel backed away and lifted his shirt, pulling it over his head. When he was ready, she guided him into the shower and sat him on the in-shower seat. Â Danneel washed his hair and body, rinsing him off after. Â âThere, all done.â
After everyone had showered, they all got comfortable on the couches in the movie room. Â
âHey,â YN whispered. Â
âWhat?â Jensen looked at her. Â
âFeel better?â
âYeah, thanks.â
âGood.â YN leaned against his shoulder. Â Before the movie started, she fell asleep. Â
âLooks like we tired her out,â Jared looked past Jensen and Danneel to YN in the last recliner.
âIt was good for her. Â Letâs enjoy the movie, sheâll be fine there.â Danneel smiled. Â
________
YN woke up lying over on the console of the recliner. Â She walked into the kitchen, seeing the sunlight flooding the room. Â
âMorning, sweetheart. Itâs Noon.â
âHey, Jens.â YN smiled. Â âYou awake?â She giggled.
âSort of. Â Slept really good last night.â
âCome here,â she wrapped her arms around him. Â âGlad you slept well.â
âIâm sorry. Â I didnât mean to freak out yesterday.â
âStop it. Â You donât get to apologize for stuff like this. Â It isnât your fault, and you know it.â
âYouâre too smart, you know that?â
âShut up and drink some coffee.â YN offered a cup to him. Â Jensen nodded. Â
YNâs phone rang. Â They both jumped. Â
âYeah?â YN answered.
âHello, sister.â
âKenyan?â She gasped. Jensen turned to her immediately. Â He walked so that he was standing next to her. Â âHow did you get this number?â
âThe brewery is a nice place. Â Not very secure though. Â Letâs just say I should be the head of the HR department. Â Got lots of information in here. Â Your application is terrible though.â
âI was fifteen and a half when I did it, not exactly an award-winning speech was needed for the job, asshole.â
Jensen grabbed his phone to call the police when he heard where the half-brother was. Â YN grabbed his wrist and shook her head at him. Â He narrowed his eyes at her, curious. Â
âHeâs not there, heâs just messing with me,â she wrote on a napkin. Â
âWhatâs it like to be rich?â Kenyan scoffed. Â
âI am not rich, and just because someone may have money does not mean they are jerks. Â What do you want, Kenyan?â
âJust to let you know that I know about the video.  And⌠your new dad should have burned.â
Jensen tightened his jaw.
âShut up, Kenyan.â
âYou better call 911. It looks like the storage room might have a little damage.â
Kenyan hung up.
YN gasped for air. Jensen pulled her into a hug while calling the police, telling them what had happened. The original investigator told them to meet him at the brewery, it had been, indeed, damaged.
âââââ-
âNo.â
âI need to go.â YN stopped her foot. âHe tried to kill you!â
âHe thought it was you. You are not going with me. Stay at the house. I called Jared and Gen. They are coming over to be here with you and Dee. I need to go. Iâll be back in a few hours,â he stepped toward her. âI love you.â After quickly kissing the top of her head, he put a jacket over his shoulder and left.
âAss.â
âHeâs just trying to protect you,â Danneel said.
âI can do it myself.â
âYouâre used to doing it on your own. But you arenât going to.â
âWhatever.â YN started to ascend the stairs.
âDonât you dare think about sneaking out either!â Danneel yelled after her.
âWith three wardens, how could I?!â YN shouted back.
âUgh.â Danneel groaned. âCome on, baby,â she whispered sadly.
âââ-
Jensen arrived back home in the late evening. Â
âHey, everybody,â he smiled and threw his keys on the entry table. Â
âDid they get him,â YN stood from where the group was sitting in the living room to stand facing Jensen. Â
âYeah, they did. Â He was hiding on the property. They tracked him by his boot prints or something.â
In relief, YN reached for Jensen and squeezed him tightly.
âHey, itâs okay. Â It always was.â Jensen reassured her. Â
âThis,â she yanked up his long-sleeved henley, âproves that it wasnât.â YN pointed to his scars. Â
âOkay, okay,â he calmed her. Â YN backed away when Danneel walked over and side-hugged her husband. Â
âHowâs the storage room?â
âNo real damage. Â Weird that Kenyan would say that. Â Maybe a few scratches. Â He carved his name into the building, thatâs all we could see.â Jensen shrugged. Â
âIâm sorry,â YN whispered and started to turn back toward the couches. Â Danneel stepped in front of her. Â YN stopped and looked down. Â
âItâs not your fault. Â Just because youâre related to him doesnât mean you are to blame. Â Now that we know everyone is safe, why donât you take a bath and go to bed, huh?â
âIâll try.â YN said with a sigh and waited until Danneel moved out of the way and then ascended the stairs to her room. Â
After she left, Gen asked if Jensen was okay. Â He sat down across from Gen and Jared. Â
âYeah.  I just donât get it.  He plays mind games⌠why?  She hasnât done anything.  The brewery is fine though.â
Danneel sat next to him on the couch and looped her fingers into his. Â
âSome people are shitheads,â Jared affirmed and took a sip of his beer. Â
âYeahâŚâ Jensen sighed. He wrapped an arm around Danneel and leaned against her.  âIâm tired.â
________
âHey,â Jensen nudged YN. âWake up.â
YN sat up on the couch in the brewery breakroom. Â
âHuh?â She wiped her eyes.
âWhy are you sleeping here, kid? And whoâs Kenyan?â
It was all a dream. Â
