I donāt know if I could ever work in screenwriting. Ā
Donāt get me wrong, I think I could absolutely write a screenplay. Ā But thereās a place in the film industry called ādevelopment hellā where a film will go through rewrite, after rewrite, after rewrite, and have the rights sold to company after company, and go through director, after director. Ā
And among all this, as a screenwriter, itās your job to work on edits of the screenplay, take notes, and change it until the producers and studio are happy with it. Ā This could take YEARS. Ā Iāve heard of screenwriters working on a film for ten years straight (while taking on other projects on the side and in-between stints) and the film never being made. Ā I find it hard enough to stay working on a short story for a few months, much less a few years. Ā
Sometimes that impatience that comes with a long project is something I'm reminded of while working on my webcomic with Jordan, The Foppish Battleaxe Gentleman. Ā We update once a week on Mondays and Iām so excited to get to future parts of the script that we have done, but we have to work on the stories that we have right in front of us, right now. Ā I love both of the stories, but of course, you have favorites, shocking reveals, twists and turns, and all the while you have to make sure that you donāt rush through to get to the incredibly exciting part. Ā I think this project has taught me to bide my time more and enjoy the moment of a scene. Ā Ā Ā Ā
