Pokemon Go and How You Can Help Our Real Life Creature Friends
So I don’t know how many of you know, but I’m the Marketing and Public Relations Director for a non-profit called Friends At Your Metro Animal Shelter - FAYMAS, for short. Basically what we do is help raise funds for the Metro Animal Shelter in Puyallup, Washington. The shelter services the cities of Puyallup, Sumner, Algona, Bonney Lake, Edgewood, Milton, and Pacific, while FAYMAS is able to extend its reach a little further out.
As we all know, the Pokemon Go app has taken society by storm and we’ve seen the amazing benefits everywhere. People are out walking more, interacting and meeting new people, seeing new places... but there’s also something else you can do while you’re becoming the next Pokemon Master - raising money to help the real life creatures that end up in shelters.
FAYMAS has partnered with Wooftrax to raise money through the Walk for a Dog app, and now you can too! In fact, we need you to! The only way we’re able to get donations to pass onto the Metro Animal Shelter is if we have active walkers (meaning you walk at least once a week).
The app is simple to get and use, as it works in the background, so you can keep catching Pokemon. All you have to do is download the app and register, select FAYMAS in Washington State (if you’re not in Washington State, it’ll automatically show results for shelters in your state, so you have to search for Washington), and then get walking!
But what if you don’t have a dog? No worries: you can either set up the app to say you’re walking with your dog, or you can use the pretend dog option that they give you! Just remember, when you pull up your Pokemon Go app, pull up the Walk for a Dog app and start tracking your walk!
