HAPPY PRIDE MONTH EVERYONE! Since it is Pride Month, I watched some videos about Pride to get me even more excited, and I came across this video titled "Inside The Craziest Gay Pride Parade and Festival" by Amir Odom in 2024. It was a black, gay man asking people at the parade questions about the community and their opinions. I got 16 minutes in before I paused the video, not sitting right with what the guy had just said. He said, "A gay man used to be a biological man that is attracted to another biological man, but now a gay man can just be someone that identifies as a man even though they have the female anatomy!" Then he continued, "Like the whole point of me being gay is because I only like male anatomy, I only like biological men, but now they're trying to sit here and argue that 'no, it means someone who identifies as a man, and you don't have to have a (male genital) in order to be gay.' It's 2024, I was expecting flying cars, not sitting here and trying to argue and debate about what a gay man is." And lastly, before I stopped watching, he said: "It's grown entirely too much, and just because you were splitted up and you focus on one side of the community does not mean you're neglecting or shutting down the other side." Ironic, right? This is the timestamp for all this in his video: 16:42. After hearing that, I couldn't help but leave a message in his comment section, saying: "This is SUCH a hot take. Actually, not even a hot take, you're just straight up not including trans people. It's all "trans-men are men", but "if you're a man who is strictly romantically and intimately attracted to men, you can't be a gay man or gay because you're not 'actually a man'/you have female genitals". Like what? Hello? The fact that no one has commented on this part is actually insane to me. And to say that someone of one sex is attracted to that same sex strictly because of what's in their pants is also insane. Having a preference for who or the type of person YOU'RE dating in YOUR relationship is fine. Nothing is wrong with that. It's okay not to want to date a trans man as a gay man. But to say that trans men don't qualify as someone who can identify as gay AT ALL because of the fact that they don't have the male genitals is beyond me. Note that this also goes for women. You're also saying that a trans woman can't identify as a lesbian because they don't have a vagina. The thing is, trans men are men and trans women are women. Which, in case you weren't sure, MLM and WLW stand for Men Loving Men and Women Loving Women, not cis Men Loving cis Men and cis Women Loving cis Women. I don't understand why you would try to restrict an already restricted community from INSIDE the community, it's like setting fire to your own home." I've never made a post like this before, but I felt the need to share this.
