@desdemonasarahmckenzie -> @aerialworms
So. I’ve had the same url for the entire time I’ve been on tumblr, since I joined in 2013.
I’m usually very resistant to change, but lately I’ve realised that it might be misleading, since it sounds like a real (and feminine) name. Desdemona Sarah McKenzie is actually the name of an OC I created when I was 13, shortly before I joined Tumblr! She was an orphan born in Greece who turned into a chimera when she got angry, like the Hulk. I was going to make a whole comic about her but I never got around to it. I chose Desdemona and McKenzie because of their meanings (I think it was that McKenzie meant protector and Desdemona meant princess or something similar) and gave her my best friend at the time’s name as her middle name.
Anyway, a couple of people have (understandably!) assumed it was my actual name and it’s kinda gotten to me, since I’m no longer a girl. It’s long and unwieldy, too, although I do like the way the syllables sound when I read it. I was going to wait until my ten year anniversary on tumblr, but it bugged me too much. I still love it, but it’s time for it to go. I’m still here, and that’s all that matters!
All this is to pay my dues to my url after 9 and a half(ish) years of service, and to announce my new url, which I took from a medieval bestiary’s description of spiders: “The spider is an aerial worm that takes its nourishment from the air.” I’ve spent weeks thinking of possible urls and not finding one that fits but then I stumbled across that and thought it was funny, so hey! New url!
By the way, while I have you all here: my pronouns are they/them and you can call me by my new url or Arthur or Artie :)
Here’s to many more years of tomfoolery on this here webbed site with you all!
