Oh, I agree there. Yeah, there is no way that Mercy collaborated on a “help us or die” deal. Even Overwatch, with all the mistakes it did, I actually can’t see doing that.

Exploit him? Yeah, that I can see but not outright blackmail. It seems much more likely that Genji carried a grudge against his family and brother, and Overwatch exploited that. After saving his life, that they directed him on this path, to dismantle the Shimada family and all, and Genji did. Only that couldn’t have brought him any happiness and it took Zenyatta to bring him peace of mind.

So yeah, I reject the blackmail aspect as well. However, there seems to be something shady on the side of Overwatch. Unfortunately, we don’t know the exact circumstances between the Genji and Hanzo fight. As in, we barely know anything at all outside the fact that it happened and that Genji lost.

What’s telling though, is that Genji was super injured. As in, Anakin Skywalker after his duel with Obi Wan injured. The hell did Hanzo do to him that injured him so much that he needed such intensive surgery and robotics to live in the state that he is now? Was it the spirit dragon? Did he also cut off a limb and leave him in lava?

The suspicious thing about this to me is, that Genji was saved, presumably by Overwatch. What is the alternative? I mean, Hanzo thought he was dead and I doubt anyone he knew brought Genji to a hospital, which in turn contacted Overwatch. It’s possible, I guess, but seems unlikely. And seems to me that if Genji landed in a normal hospital, his family would have been told one way or another, it was still very powerful at that point.

Where did they fight? It seems much more likely that Overwatch/Blackwatch was observing this confrontation and scooped Genji up the second Hanzo left. Being injured like he was, doubt he would have stayed alive for long without outstanding and immediate medical attention.

And if Overwatch was there, well, why not help him? Would someone say, if he gets injured and we heal him back, he will trust us? Maybe, maybe not. Would make for an interesting story, though.

She didn't need to have been working for Overwatch to be called in for questioning, they could have been investigating the lead up that happened while she was still with Overwatch. In how I picture it, she'd been gone for ~1 year before it all imploded and she was called to testify about the things Blackwatch did during her time at Overwatch.

I guess my main frustration is that it is so needlessly vague, since they never really get out and clarify the time stuff and say when exactly what happened so we have to cobble together something that is always forced to change with the next breadcrumb. Until that interview, I would have thought Mercy was still with Overwatch when it all went down. Hell, it was somewhat implied that Mercy was in the HQ when it exploded and all that (or at least, they kinda leaned into the fantheories a bit). Since then we slowly learn that that’s all wrong. At this point, as you said, Mercy may as well have left Overwatch years or months ago, or she left two day/weeks before the HQ exploded. 

I’m pretty sure that was actually stated in canon when the Byakugan was introduced.

It was considered a rumor, in-universe. Like, the claim was that “these clans are both super old and nobody knows for sure when their doujutsu came into existence, but the Hyuuga claim the Sharingan is just a mutation of their Byakugan and nobody can argue otherwise because written history is apparently not something ninja like to do.” It was something people said and the the Hyuuga kind of claimed so they could say they came first or whatever, but there was no way to confirm, so it was just a rumor.

And a lot of people considered it debunked after a certain point because we learned that the Sharingan actually came from the Sage?

I'd say the last couple of episodes of every season, Relevance, and Carter's arc in the middle of season 3 starting with Endgame. Also Lady killer at the start of season 3 just to watch Shaw awkwardly try to impress Carter.

One thing that always bothers me about “let’s try...

The most common idea for announcing our presence is currently sending a repeating string of the first x amount of prime numbers due to how immediately recognizable they are and the fact that they are not base dependent. Math is the best way to ‘communicate’ with extraterrestrial life due to how universal it is, but the draw back is that the only thing you can easily communicate with math, is well, math. Anything more would require some reciprocity.

On a side note we could send the digits of pi, or any other relevant irrational number, and be understood because any civilization sophisticated enough to receive our signal should be able to convert across bases, and the fact that we would only send 10 distinct types of information in our transmission would imply we use base ten. Using prime numbers assumes the least from the receiver though, so that is the go to idea.

I like that real science is doing something like this, because all I see in science fiction is “we’ll send a mathematical formula!” and I’m just wondering like... are we assuming that aliens are going to even be working on the same scale/detail as we are, let alone the same base or symbols?

And I assume that developmental disorders would be kept because being turned preserves and enhances your core personality So its entirely possible that an autistic vampire would still be just as if not more neurodivergent than before they were turned

Vamps are white-washed because apparently venom destroys pigmentation, which is a very weak reason. And emotions wouldn’t be an issue because neurotransmitters and hormones aren’t a bodily fluid and venom evidently is a suitable conduit for them.

That... sounds pretty racist. I mean, I’m not surprised, considering what the world is like in concerns to this sort of ting, but that’s still a pretty weak excuse to whitewash characters. Dammit Meyer.
