Some people eat lunch on break, some people have a little nap and some people, just some print off a magic circle for spirit conjuration from obscure esoteric tomes.
Magia Naturalis et Innaturalis
Ā "Magia Naturalis et Innaturalis" NicolĆ”s Ćlvarez Ortiz, translator
After bringing out the first English translation of the Faustian grimoire "Magia Naturalis et Innaturalis" via a successfully funded crowdfunding campaign, followed by a wonderful hardbound volume of āA Compendium of Unnatural Black Magicā, Enodia Press have now released a fine edition of their first publication.
Doctor Johannes Faust's "Magia Naturalis et Innaturalis" is a 16th century grimoire of magic of the Faustian tradition. Sourced from Johann Scheible's 1849 German language edition (available here) the work is at once a fascinating document of an historic development in the evolution of pact oriented ritual conjuration in the Western tradition, and a precise manual of practical Faustian magic for use by the student of the grimoire traditions.
"Magia Naturalis et Innaturalis" was exceptionally translated from the German by NicolĆ”s Ćlvarez Ortiz and this expanded edition includes a much more indepth analysis of the text, as well as lavishly illustrated and including 48 full colour plates. Its a pleasant binding, though unstitched, and shows that Enodia Press have come a long way to producing exceptional volumes for grimoire magic.
The work itself is a practical grimoire of ritual conjuration with lists of spirits and methods of evocation. Sigils of hierarchies of spirits are listed as are dozens of practical applications and assistances from the spirits and the seals and terms used to bind and compel them.
This much expanded and vastly more visually pleasing edition of Magia is the first hardbound issued in English and another gem in Enodia's growing treasury of historic grimoires. With some luck maybe they could be enticed to publish translations of the Michael Scot and pseudo Scot material? Work that is long overdue for an English edition.
I look forward to future editions coming out of Enodia Press. In the meantime get your copy here:
