I agree with you about the whole trashing on Fates thing being really unnecessary. As someone who was adopted, I actually felt that the "pointless choice" of the game between the birth family and the adopted family was really poignant, and to see it dismissed so much as not being a legitimate emotional dilemma was disheartening to say the least.
Iām glad it managed to have such an impact for you! I think a lot of Reddit as a whole (and much of the internet, too TBH) struggles with empathy. Like, if it wasnāt emotional or poignant for them then it couldnāt have possibly been that way for everyone else. The Fire Emblem community specifically seems to have this self importantĀ āWell if I didnāt enjoy it then youĀ canāt enjoy it eitherā which is just bullshit.
As for me, Fates came out during a time that was rather turbulent for me. So even if itās not the best game ever, itās still really important to me. Writing fanfiction and having this blog, basically just having places where I could just engage with people who loved the game too, were honestly lifesavers.
I kind of wish the community as a whole had been less assholish about the game, but honestly they can fuck off. Whether Iām allowed to enjoy or be moved by something is not based on the opinions of self important jack offs cowering behind their keyboards. Iām not going to waste my time trying to argue with or convince them when I could be engaging with something that I love instead.
