"He says he's a guy, not a girl!" Are we really trusting fire emblem fates to have nuanced queer rep. Do we think that the writers of Fire Emblem Fates know what they're doing when it comes to portrayals of queer characters. Is this what we're doing now. Come on. She's a transgender woman the same way that we were saying that Bridget was a transgender woman for decades.

Yeah I don’t really like the Corrin/the royal sibs, and while calling it incest is somewhat accurate, trying to ruin people’s lives is going a bit far. I mean? Find me one ship that isn’t ~problematic~ somehow. Royal Sibs/Any of their retainers? Power dynamic. In fact, Royal sibs/anyone? Power dynamic. 

Even though the side that has a support chain the involves actual war crimes was Hoshido (Oboro/Jakob Supports for anyone interested).

Like both Kingdoms in Fates fit into the "morally grey" category WAY better than Edel does in 3H.

Like Garon isn't actually Garon, the Nohr Siblings aren't bad people they are just trying to save their own necks, Nohr Corrin genuinely tries to find the least bloody option but due to naivety and inexperience they don't often succeed. Hoshido on the other hand are certainly the victims, in the sense they are getting invaded but they aren't above using morally bad tactics in order to improve their chances of winning, Hoshido Corrin is angrier and far less willing to compromise and were Xander kept secrets from Corrin about who they were in order to protect himself and Corrin, Ryoma kept secrets about Corrin not being their blood family because.... I don't know, he never thought it was important? Regardless both sides do bad things, for different reasons but all the reasons at least on surface make sense.

Edelgard's thought process for how she got from Tortured by Mole Men to Gotta Kill the Dragons and work with the Mole Men requires multiple jumps in logic that it just doesn't work unless we accept Edelgard's goals are not as noble as she claims them to be.

I’m glad it managed to have such an impact for you! I think a lot of Reddit as a whole (and much of the internet, too TBH) struggles with empathy. Like, if it wasn’t emotional or poignant for them then it couldn’t have possibly been that way for everyone else. The Fire Emblem community specifically seems to have this self important “Well if I didn’t enjoy it then you can’t enjoy it either” which is just bullshit.

As for me, Fates came out during a time that was rather turbulent for me. So even if it’s not the best game ever, it’s still really important to me. Writing fanfiction and having this blog, basically just having places where I could just engage with people who loved the game too, were honestly lifesavers.

I kind of wish the community as a whole had been less assholish about the game, but honestly they can fuck off. Whether I’m allowed to enjoy or be moved by something is not based on the opinions of self important jack offs cowering behind their keyboards. I’m not going to waste my time trying to argue with or convince them when I could be engaging with something that I love instead.

Why is it always the characters who have traditionally feminine-leaning interests? Why is it never characters like Takumi? Or Keaton? It feels weirdly conservative that because he sews and wears pink, he MUST be a girl. Because no boy can enjoy those things. And if you feel uncomfortable by the undercurrent of misogyny that liking to sew = woman, you're the problem.

People who get so aggressive about those who disagree with them remind me more of the shopkeeper in the game who laughed at Forrest when he said he was a man, or Leo in a different font, not any kind of ally.

The older game solve this issue by being painfully straight (outside of a few bait). How did Tellius ended up being the best about it ?
