A Little Human Kindness, part 2

The Winchesters looked up when you walked in. âHowâs Lucifer?â Dean asked.
âHe actually spoke to me this time.â
âWhatâd he say?â Sam asked, sitting forward.
âThat he doesnât want to see Chuck.â Your eyes darted to the man youâd heard about. He looked guiltily at the ground, a strange action for such a powerful man.
âWell, I canât say Iâm surprised,â Chuck said. âI need to give him his space. Heâll come around, I hope.â
âDonât hold your breath,â Dean grumbled.
Chuckâs eyes darted to Dean before turning to you. âWill you let me know when he surfaces?â
âUh, sure. But I donât think that heâll want to talk to you the minute he comes upstairsâŚâ
âI will come when the time is right.â
The three of you watched as Chuck disappeared.
âQuite the godly line to exit on,â you noted.

You and the Winchesters were sitting in the living room the following night when the sound of footsteps startled you all. Lucifer crept through the hallway, stopping just at the doorway. The Winchesters slowly reached for hidden weapons while you smiled at Lucifer.
âYou want to come watch TV, Lucifer?â
âY/N,â Dean hissed. âWhat are you--â
âI was, uh⌠wonderingâŚâ
âIf⌠there was perhaps anymore of that chicken from dinnerâŚâ
âSure thing.â You stood, stepping over the stretched-out legs of the Winchesters. âCome with me.â
You led Lucifer down the hall to the kitchen. There, you pulled out a chair at the table for Lucifer before moving to the fridge, taking out containers of leftovers. âYou want anything besides chicken?â
âUm... Iâm good with whateverâŚâ
You loaded up the plate with a bit of everything. Lucifer had looked a little thin when heâd come up from the shadows. If he was finally showing interest in the food, you would shove as much as possible down his throat.
In a loving way, of course.
When the microwave beeped, you set the full plate before Lucifer, alongside a glass of water. Lucifer dug in immediately, paying no mind to you as you sat across from him.
After a few moments, he glanced up, fork paused before his mouth. âSorry,â he mumbled.
âNo need to apologize. Iâm just glad to see you eating.â
Lucifer swallowed. âItâs⌠really good. Did you make it?â
You nodded. âMy mom had me in the kitchen as soon as I was able to stir. And the Winchesters have been severely lacking in the âgood foodâ category, so my skills havenât had time to rust.â
Lucifer poked around his plate for a moment. âIs my dad still around?â
âNo, he left after stopping by the other day. He said heâd come back.â
âHe just wants whatâs best for you.â
Lucifer glared at you. âYeah, and Iâm sure he âdidnât mean to hurt meâ and âloves me unconditionallyâ and every other parenting clichĂŠ in the book.â
You shrugged. âIf I agree, is that considered blasphemy? Sacrilege?â
Lucifer smirked. âWell, those are two of my strong suits.â

Dean stepped into the library, finding both you and Sam at the table.
You looked up. âWhatâs with the face?â
âIf youâre both here, whoâs in the shower?â
âWell, I figured you wouldnât appreciate him sitting around being grungy. Houseguests are usually more welcomed when they smell good.â
âWho said he was welcome? Or a guest?â
âGoddammit, Dean, why are you being such an ass?â
âBecause Lucifer is in my shower!â
You stood, heading out of the library. âFor once, I wish you could act like a normal human being.â

Lucifer stepped out of the bathroom, finding you waiting. âOh. Was⌠did I take too long?â
âNo. I just wanted to make sure you were okay.â
âI think I can handle a shower on my own. But thank you for your concern.â
You smiled. âLook, Dean is continuing to be an asshole, so I think itâs best if you stay out of his way.â
âSo, you can stay in my room.â
âOne of the spare rooms. Or the couch. Who knows, one night I might get crazy and sleep under the table in the library.â
Luciferâs brow creased. âI canât kick you out of your own room.â
You shrugged. âItâs no big deal. Itâll be easier than trying to convince Dean to let you stay in one of the spare rooms.â
Lucifer sighed. âThis doesnât feel right.â
âItâs okay,â you said with a smile. âPromise.â
âThis is what friends do, Lucifer.â
