Far Cry 4: The Twilight of Kyrat
The Tarun Matara’s Ball
The royal palace gleamed under the torchlight. Ajay Ghale, now wearing the heavy weight of the crown, paced back and forth.
"Relax, Your Majesty. You look like a recruit on his first day in the jungle," Marty Alencar teased, leaning against the wall with a drink in hand.
"It’s Bhadra, Marty. I saw in a documentary that in Brazil, you throw debutante parties to introduce girls to society, right?" Ajay paused, apprehensive. "My challenge is that society here expects a Living Goddess, and all I want is for her to be a teenager."
"In Brazil, there’s waltzing, expensive dresses, and crying parents," Marty shrugged. "Here? If she doesn't bless the harvest, people panic. It's a different kind of pressure, my friend."
The door swung open. Bhadra emerged in a ceremonial dress made of red silk and gold thread. She was no longer the scared girl from the mountains.
"How do I look?" she asked, her voice steady, but her eyes searching for approval.
"You look... incredible," Ajay smiled, offering his arm. "Ready to be the face of a new Kyrat?"
"If you're by my side to catch the crown if it falls... I am."

Absolute yap fest but I finished Far Cry 6 a little bit ago and why am I just now learning Máximas Matanzas was somehow everyone's least favorite!? Talía was the only character I understand, but alot of the reasoning into why people don't like her isn't really the main thing I think personally makes her unlikable.
Okay, let's start with Paolo because he was my favorite. I felt like people's only complaint about him was that he was "woke"—god forbid they have any sort of LGBTQ rep. in anything ever. Maybe it wasn't exactly as relevant when the game came out, but with everything happening in America right now, I really resonated with what he was fighting for and his need for freedom. I do think maybe the 'perfect daughter' bit was a little much, like this is the first conversation Dani and him have and he practically tells her his whole life story when the point was that they didn't trust Dani. I liked the way they handled trust in the Montero camp the best—Dani actually had to work to win Carlos over—but I guess Dani never really did fully win Paolo over. Regardless, as much as everyone wants to say "they were shoving the fact he was trans in our faces!" He spoke about it alot because it was an issue and a massive reason he wanted to leave in the first place; it was nice to hear them talk about it and the struggles he actually faces living in a country like Yara.
Onto Bembé, god I hated him, but not his character. Wonderfully written villian because he got under my skin in a way that actually made me upset. I liked the cool little detail in Dani's personal history that talks about how Alejo had a debt with Bembé and once he'd paid it off he got him and Dani their tickets to America. Thought that was pretty interesting. Though I completely believe Dani just letting him walk away was stupid.
Paz... oh where do I begin. Made me laugh maybe twice, I enjoy his radio station, that's really it. They never fully explain how he became a part of the band, but he follows Paolo, Talía, and Dani around like a lost dog and it drives me insane. His whole "I have a crush on Dani" really icked me out. I played as female Dani and just the way he spoke to her just grossed me out. Would've been much more likable if they wouldn't have forced the love interest that the main character has no interest in role and tried to play more into the comedic relief part of his character. I think hate is definitely a strong word, but he was my least favorite in the band.
Before I get onto Talía I wanna talk about the actual villians of this region: María and Edgar. I really liked Diego so obviously María interested me. I don't think people talk about her relationship with Antón nearly enough, they're not healthy (but when is anything Antón ever does??) And she convinced him to have Diego to keep the Castillo name alive, but it was obvious she wanted to be apart of her son's life. She's one of the only people with a portrait of him in her office, she plays his recorded speeches over her speakers at her facilities, and overall gave me the impression she wanted to be in his life. I felt like overall, in the grand scheme of everything, she should have been more protected by, oh, I don't know, Antón? Her death scene was pretty weak compared to José's, or Edgar, or literally everyone else. Edgar was a little better, I felt like I actually struggled to fight him, and they gave me a solid reason to dislike him. I don't have much to say about him honestly, I liked the whole wolf in sheep's clothing thing that he had going on, but he wasn't really special.
Finally we reach Talía. I'm gonna talk about her pros and cons. I'll start with her first impression. Not great. Dani rescues her just for not even a thank you, she immediately goes to find Paolo who she then gets in a fight with and then that turns into a makeout session. I wouldn't go as far to put this as "abuse" like everyone else is making out to be, I also wouldn't say she should have hit him. The "so a real man" comment was totally uncalled for and I'm not even gonna try and defend that. Though, I don't think that was nearly or even comparable to how María speaks about Paolo later. "Tomboy" and then she misgenders him twice.. yeah, not even close. The intro scene really sets the player up for the mess that is their relationship further in the game.
I liked pretty much all her missions up to the rooftop concert. Now, the mission itself was fun, I had a very enjoyable time as I like their music and getting to sing along while I shot at the oncoming trucks to protect their gear was great. Anyone who says they didn't like that part is just allergic to fun and whimsy, I don't make the rules. Afterwards was the problem. I don't doubt that they were probably a decent couple at a time, but this argument really set it up for that Talía was more interested in fighting her power trip for revenge than how it was affecting people, including her boyfriend. Juan gives Dani a similar speech after "in the lions den" about how Dani lost what Libertad actually fought for and was more obsessed with the idea of killing Antón than she was with freeing Yara. Talía is a similar way. She is obsessed with her idea of getting revenge on María for forcing her into her academy and trying to fuck her up. But that's not to say she doesn't understand other people's struggles as well— Ishe genuinely wanted to stop Marquessa because she didn't want what happened to her happening to anyone else—but she clearly doesn't understand Paolo or his struggles because she is self centered and focused on what she wants rather than what he is pleading with her to do. She's hearing him but she's not really listening yknow?
She convinced him into one last show, she was upset when he shut her down because it was probably one of the last moments/shows they would share together happily. Not to say alot of her being upset was trying to manipulate him into staying, and I'm incredibly proud of Paolo for standing up for himself and sticking to his plan to leave. She was so stubborn and such a loose canon that manifested itself into her becoming manipulative and obsessive over him. I also found it quite ironic—not bad, ironic—that alot of her problems with Paolo stem over him being a "pussy" and "running from his problems" by fleeing to America, while Talía does the exact same thing. She avoids her problems as much as she can, while Paolo did just the opposite. He constantly tried to explain to her why he wanted to leave, that he wasn't running but he was solving his problems. Talía was just too obsessed with this idea of revolution and fantasy that Paolo refused to encourage. He explains it pretty well himself on the roof, that even if Castillo is dead it doesn’t change the fact that he will be ostracized because that's just how Yara treats his community. Talía treats his struggles as if they're her own while simultaneously not understanding him whatsoever and his isn't shy to call her out for it.
After all this he does stick to his plan to leave and blah blah blah, you know the story if you're still reading this. Then, somehow, magically Paolo saving her AGAIN after already putting his ass on the line, ruining his dream, to take out a debt to get her out of the academy. Which he didn't have to save her from. The whole scene where she rescues him and Dani just felt incredibly dumb, like okay she gets shot, Dani's panicking, and Paolo is the only one coherent enough to make the choice "I'm gonna take Talía and leave Dani, even though we are all going to the same doctor and we're all in the same room. Makes total sense!"
I won't say I support their relationship, but I have seen much worse get a slap on the wrist and a pat on the back. Not to say they weren't bad, I just wished Talía wasn't so manipulative and was maybe written more reasonably that she didn't want to leave because she believed her fight wasn't over, and that if she truly wanted Paolo to stay she would have been more understanding and tried to show him why this fight was his too instead of letting Dani do it for her. I just don't think Talía was ready to truly be with him because she didn't understand him the way he needed her to understand. They clashed too much morally, ideally, and just overall to be good for one another.
Máximas Matanzas was definitely not the worst region though, and wasn't nearly as cringe as everyone tries to make it out to be. I could argue that The Legends of 67' and La Moral were much less interesting because why am I hunting stupid birds and diving to get your grill in the middle of a war? But I've been going on a little too long defending a game everyone thinks was shit anyways. I'm open to discussion about any of this though!
Me deciding to post after 18 thousand years bc I'm bored. Wow, such a shocker!
I just recently finished Farcry 6 and found a fic over on AO3. 134 chapters. Over 300,000 words.
I'm only on chapter 5 (I've still go sm to read and it only keeps getting better) but it definitely inspired this and js me overall.
Not sure if it came out how I really intended for it too (or if i even rlly like it), but I've been meaning to make any sort of connection to Dani and lions sworn enemies, the Leopard.
Tried to make everything as kinda "tangerine" as I could get it but the moon still seems way too bright and large to me.
Literally nowhere done working on this playlist but the whole thing is the like 5 songs I've been listening to while I read. It'll probably get happier eventually (if we're lucky)
Anyways ik I'm just typing to type now so here's the creator of the fic that's been genuinely consuming my brain for days, the writing is incredible.
@jacobmybeloved
Hit or miss I draw the dinner scene with her and Anton bc it genuinely changed my brain chemistry
IS Far Cry 6 A Guerrilla Warfare MASTERPIECE?
