Meyer missed out on opportunity. I know she was trying be different and all (hence the sparkles) but she should have given the vampires fangs!! 😭 I feel like that would have been really interesting! What do you think?

I think what gets me about the fangs is she didn’t need to trash that aspect of vampirism. She wants her vampires to be attractive as part of their lure, and relentlessly equates youth with beauty— well, longer/pointier canine teeth give a youthful appearance (they tend to wear down and round out from use over time). There’s your adaptational justification.
She can’t say “well their teeth are so sharp they don’t need fangs to feed” because her mythology’s whole shtick is that vampire stats are over-stacked.
I can understand retractable fangs not being conducive to vampires being physically unchanging/frozen, but you know what else doesn’t work with that? Changing eye color. I guess fangs would also be a giveaway that vampires are inhuman, but you know what else does that? Eyes that change from black to red or gold, two very inhuman colors.
Why not just give them subtly longer canine teeth? Why not have their canine teeth slowly get longer in tandem with the changing eye color? (“Did you get contacts? …and veneers?”) Come on!!!!!!
