Something I never noticed about Jumanji when I watched it over and over as a kid was that, even though the story revolves around a high-stakes board game, there is no competition between the main characters. Nobody wants to win the game; they just want to survive the challenges thrown at them. They work together and refuse to leave anybody behind. We don’t even see characters competing for things like attention or affection. The story emphasizes and rewards collaboration, not competition. We need more stories like this, especially today.
