Viggo surveyed the Northern Markets, watching his men cart around large, covered cages. The cries and growls of dragons coming from beneath the tarps. An auction was to happen later that evening.
Hearing the noise made May Lily flinch under Eira's hood. Eira whispers, "easy now." as she reaches the edge of the cages. Trying to look like a potential buyer.
Viggo noticed Eira, a little skeptical of her shrouded appearance but wasn't about to raise alarm just yet.
He stopped some of his men to peak under the cover of one of the cages, grinning at the titan wing Flightmare that lunged at him. The poor thing was the main event of the coming auction.
"Quite the specimen you have this time Viggo. I do hope none of your men were seriously injured when catching them?" Eira couldn't help getting a closer look being sure to keep Viggo insight as she did.
Viggo turned his attention to the mysterious woman. "It certainly is..." his smirk remaining. "A few were hit from it's paralyzing mist, but thankfully we paid no casualties for this beast. An overall profit." He boasted.
"Perhaps you would like a closer look?" He offered, lifting the cover up a bit higher to show Eira.
Nodding thanks she declined. "I suspect this one is out side my price range but thank you for the offer. I was actually interested in any..." grimacing, " Damaged goods? I like to practice my skills on some instead."
Viggo quirked his brow, "Very well, come with me." He sauntered, not too slow but just at a pace so Eira didn't have any issue keeping up.
"We often do use a hard hand with our more defiant dragons." He explained "This Typhoomerang might pique your interest." He led her over to the dragon in question, chained and bruised.
Eyes darting over the dragon trying to guess as to how much damage was hidden under the scales. "Yes this will suit my needs I think. May I have a closer look?" Eira was pushed from behind hard. Falling closer to the cage then intended. She got back up with a few stomps of her feet, signaling the dragon underneth with the rythm of her stomps.
"Please, inspect it as close as you wish. I promise it's completely safe. My men have done the dangerous task of securing the beast's claws and teeth." Viggo assured, stepping beside her. His shoulder hardly an inch apart from her.
With a light clearing of her throat she nodded. "Alright." Pushing up her sleeves. "Lets see what the hunters did to you." She said louder then needed. Just as she was about to touch the dragon there was shouting and dragon roars. Someone shouted Whispering Death! And there was a cage in the jaws of the loose dragon. Being a boulder class dragon the arrows would not work.
Viggo grabbed a crossbow and jumped to his feet. He aimed it at the large dragon, his attention shifted away from Eira. "Cover the stock!" He commanded.
Viggo rushed over to the Flightmare, concerned about his prized possession. He cursed under his breath. Dragons stay well away from his operations. He suspected that beast was brought here.
With the hunters eyes focused on the obvious threat May Lily went to use her healing breath on the larger bruises as Eira went for the bindings. Once loose she turned and pushed Viggo, "Get down!" as the more then frustrated dragon took aim.
Viggo grunted, glaring at Eira until the heat of the dragon's blast grazed his head. "How'd that thing get loose?!" He shouted.
Several hunters came running to recapture the Typhoomerang, it's large wing beats sending them flat on their backs as it took off. It was more interested in getting away from the hunters than revenge.
Viggo was less forgiving, standing up and pulling Eira to her feet. Taking a deep breath and recuperating himself. "Now... I recall letting you get a close look at my dragon, not my restraints..." holding back his anger.
Eira matched his glare. "Your men need to be more prepared for stowaways. There was a Prickleboggle hiding near it. Prickleboggle bond with stronger dragons because they themselves aren't fighters. By the time I noticed the bruises were healing right before my eyes that small dragon pushed the restraints off. I'd wager someone was complacent today." Shaking off his hand and taking a deep breath. "Now I suspect not all your men got out of that fight without injury. Would you prefer an extra pair of healers hands or shall I take my leave?"
Viggo sighed, "I suppose I could use your help." hanging his head. "But I will be keeping a close eye on you." He grumbled.
"The injured men will likely gather down in the infirmary tent, I'll lead you to it." He began to led her down a secluded path, hidden by the Northern Market's foliage.
Matching his pace, Eira walked beside him. Her hood down now with May Lily following her patient out of the fight just like they practiced. "Still it could have been worse. Only two dragons lost in the skirmish. That's not so bad." Glancing at Viggo as they entered the tent. She stepped in to finish the bandaging on a shoulder so the regular healer could focus on more serious injuries.
The injured hunters looked up at Viggo with wide, startled eyes. They didn't say anything, but it was clear Viggo didn't frequent this part of his operation.
Viggo exhaled, "Four thousand and six thousand pieces were lost." trying to cool his temper. Clasping his hands together. "Well! I'll just make up for it next auction."
Wincing in sympathy and trying to chuckle. "Yes, well perks of being known as the best in a dangerous trade I suppose." Thinking to herself 'and I'm not trying the same trick on you no matter how many times your men can be fooled, might have to stick to small timers.'
Viggo smiled, "Yes, I am certainly quite renowned." he boasted. He unsheathed his sword, inspecting it's blade.
Keeping his attention partially on Eira, he looked at his cloudy reflection. "Still, this loss will delay certain boat repairs and resources for my men out in the field."
"Heavy weighs the crown." Then an idea popped into Eira's head. A dangerous idea but if done right... profitable in a way. Biting her lip before speaking. "Viggo, I have a business proposal" Finishing with the last of the minor injuries'. "I can provide a bulk discount on medical supplies as well as an extra set of hands when in port if you agree to let me have first pick of damaged goods before your auctions in future." Eira tried to hide her hand wringing by washing her hands.
"Oh?" He approached her, crossing his hands behind his back but tightening the grip around the hilt of his sword. "Hm, I fail to see where this doesn't benefit me..." He pondered, his brow furrowed in contemplation.
"Very well! We have a deal." He held out his free hand, offering to shake.
Shaking his hand with a smile of her own. "Well I best make sure the first shipment will be ready before you leave then." Making her way back to her side of the market before making her way to the hidden whispering death cave to make sure the other dragon was freed before anything else that night. "Let's not mess with the Grimborns directly again, ok?" she rested her head on Dread Needle's and sighed.
Viggo retired to his own tent, writing down in various documents. Cataloging his stock. Boring stuff. He stared at his Maces and Talons board, silently wishing someone would interrupt him so he could "torture" them with a few rounds of the game.
Compiling a document on Eira was a bit more interesting, noting all the small things he noticed about her in addition to the deal they made.
