so you see I’m in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom still somewhat (more in it than Uncle Iroh is dead in Korra anyway) + also in the PJO fandom somewhat. Both have healthy and significant crossovers with Marvel and IN PARTICULAR, Spider-Man + Batman

I’ve seen a Spider-Man movie like once and the last time I saw a Batman movie I fell asleep and my roommate had to wake me up halfway thru to go back to our room, so. Let us say I do not have a good history with this media. Batman in specific I had a grudge against for awhile even in fandom bc of how so often ML X Batman crossovers just hate (puppy dog ML) Adrien and want to replace him with Damian.

However recently I managed to get into Maribatfam aus pretty much on the premise that Marinette is Batman’s long lost child somehow OR Batman adopts her for some reason. (Sorry Tom Dupain)

Now I’m beginning to read Spider-Man and Batfamily aus (+ branching into Marvel crossovers and maybe even later on Marvel overall).

To get a frame of reference on how much I know about Marvel, I recently discovered Wandavision is probably a ship name + Wanda and Vision are separate people. I also don’t know who Bucky Barnes is or why Steve is old now (though I do know that they’re shipped together a LOT). I know the names of the decathlon members on Peter’s team and I’ve kinda pieced together his tragic backstory with help from pop culture general knowledge? I’m still not sure if he can physically shoot the web stuff or if he made that in a lab though.

Oooh ok, this one made me really think 😂 it’s been a long time since 14 year old me.

Quotev was my introductory, personality tests were all the rage so when I found the ‘who are you in this fandom ect’ quizzes I was ecstatic. Then scrolled down and realised that people were making stories for all these characters and my mind was blown. I was really nerdy about the fandom that shall not be named because the author is a raging turf and actively trying to harm the trans community, so it was awesome to find all these stories about the characters with much more depth to them than the books gave. I think I read every George Weasley fic that was on the site.

Then I started with google since I was familiar with some of the terminology and then found wattpad. As much as the site gets so much shit for, it wasn’t so bad back then, I even wrote my first fic on there in my teens. Httyd actually, a Viggo x oc.

A few years later a friend introduced me to tumblr for a completely different reason and I stumbled upon the fandom space here. Now, up until this point, I had read many fanfics, left a few comments and didn’t think anything of it but on here, I was amazed at the small communities that I’d stumbled into. I had never found a space, so friendly and open and willing to interact with each other, and bounce ideas of each other, and write each other fics. I made a Ben 10 OC and made a few different stories and art pieces for them. I just really enjoyed the community on here. So I started sharing more OCs getting into more fandoms and then I watched The Hobbit. And I have been obsessed evidence.

And here I am today with an amazing community and an active member of things like Deano Bingo and Whumptober and other fun challenges that improve my writing ability.

It started with hating the Series and seeing it everywhere. Eventually I read a fantastic crossover, then another, then I ran out of crossovers that I wanted to read. So I moved on to works with only the Series that I previously detested (not crossovers with an already familiar fandom). And now I'm having to hunt for new material.

I still have no desire to read or watch the Series. But there's something about fanfiction that has allowed me to fall in love with this world and characters. Maybe its that, without reading the canon, I get to pick which author's interpretation I can to pick up and take with me and which ideas I don't vibe with.
