I've seen a lot of people say the all lives matter thing is bull/stupid/whatever and I want to ask a clarifying question. What if the reason someone has that stance is because many vulnerable groups are targeted by police brutality? (Disabled people, sex workers, etc)
I have an answer to this that I think may help you understand why “all lives matter” is a harmful belief.
If your home was on fire, firefighters will come and put your house out, because it is the one in danger of burning down. The firefighters will not come and aim their hoses at every single house on the block when your house is the only one on fire. Sure, the rest of the houses are important, as they are someone else’s home, but they aren’t on fire.
In this metaphor, your house on fire represents the consistent danger Black individuals are in because of systematic racism and police brutality. Black individuals are targeted by police consistently. I have seen videos of Black kids bursting into tears or hiding behind whatever they can when they see any sort of law enforcement because they are terrified and have witnessed what can happen to them just because of their skin color. It’s heartbreaking.
Black Lives Matter is a movement that emphasizes the importance of Black Lives and is determined to end systematic racism within our law enforcement. It is not to say that anyone else does not matter. This movement is a fight for equality. But Black Lives are in the most danger right now because of systematic racism and police brutality. Just as your house, as the only one on fire, is in the most danger on your block. Let’s put that fire out.

(I'm really trying to not come across as rude with this) systematic abuse of the disabled/mentally ill/sex worker are still huge issues that don't get mentioned much when it comes to police brutality. The fire metaphor doesn't really make sense because it's more than just the one house on fire. Black people aren't the only ones disproprtionatly impacted by police brutality.
I understand what you’re trying to say and the systematic abuse of those groups of people are equally important to focus on; however as I stated in my previous post, the Black Lives Matter movement is fighting against police brutality towards Black individuals and police brutality, period.
The Black Lives Matter movement isn’t a declaration of “no one else matters”. It isn’t a declaration that there aren’t others impacted by police brutality.
Again, it emphasizes the importance of Black Lives, which includes individuals who are Black and are disabled/mentally ill/sex workers.
Also, Google is a great resource and is educational. I would strongly encourage you to do your research on this movement.

i know it’s been quite a while since i’ve been very active on here, summer always keeps me busy with working and traveling.
but after a lot of tears, money, papers, running around & multiple voicemails, i FINALLY have my court date to change my name!!! besides all the paperwork i have to send around after i get the final judgement order, i will legally be ME on august 14th, 2019. it's taken so long to get here and at least 5 different names from 2015-2017, but i will finally be me. i'm proud of it and i love it. it's a name that..just fits. it's me. i'm so happy.
and to any trans individuals who struggle to find the right name for themselves: trust me, take all the time you need to figure it out. you're not a burden to anyone. it's YOUR name and you have every right to change it however many times you need to before you find the one that feels like a puzzle piece locking in. it's worth it to wait and make sure things fit. i promise you.
