You know that thing where if you spend enough time around someone you’ll mimic or adopt a habit or trait they have/do? I find it very sweet - like unknowingly carrying something someone gave you - and how would the boys react when they realize their datemate is adopting something they do or they realize they’re doing something their datemate does? Like I have a specific way I say ‘hi’ when I pick up the phone - I only started this after I heard a friend doing it and now it’s just a part of me :D
Killer is obsessed with this and will actively encourage you to pick up terrible habits from all of them. Ex. Chapter 17, where he finds the concept of Reader being extra manipulative because she knows him DELIGHTFUL.
More innocent habits would also make him feel all warm and fuzzy, though he most enjoys watching you pick them up from the others. Little scraps of language or daily routines that mix and match parts of them. It's a sign that after everything, you're finally comfortable in their family.
It's hard to tell if Killer himself picks up your habits, because he's constantly adding new vocabulary and changing up his routines. He despises things to be too similar day-to-day, and only treasures a few constants (movie nights, Giftmas traditions, and due to Horror's insistence... mealtimes with everyone).
Horror cannot stand it. Not because he dislikes it, but because he finds it ridiculously cute. Monsters learn things from each other, especially from their parents, including language, hobbies, skills, and even routines... but it's amazing how quickly humans begin to mimic those they feel connected with. And completely unintentionally! It's extremely difficult to be casual about it when you pick something up from him.
He also enjoys learning things from you—specific ways you like your food cut, little quirks in your recipes or preferred arrangement of the flowers in the garden. Little things you say that you want repeated back.
Dust is rather shy about it. He doesn't think he really deserves that kind of affection from you at first, and he doesn't want to creep you out by copying you. But you're so happy when you notice it, that he doesn't try to stop. He supposes, after what happened..... it only makes sense he carries parts of you, and you of him.
He can be more open when you're copying Horror's habits. His husband and wife are so in sync <3
Nightmare is quite neutral on you picking up habits from him. Of course, you should naturally mimic him. He is your lover, and has been teaching you how things work in this realm. You're trying to please him. And if it pleases you, he may adopt a few of your terms of endearment or other activities.
But, please... stop letting Killer teach you new swears.
Error is massively conflicted. Yes, it's arguably better if you start adopting things from him... then you'll be more in line. But he's not particularly fond of change either. So he would opt to ignore it the first few times you mimic him.
But the first time he accidentally mimics YOU? Instant crisis mode.
Because change is a disease in the multiverse. It's the method by which a perfect universe got distorted and copied ad infinitum.
Yet, when he checks... nothing has really shifted in his own code.
He doesn't understand it...
Cross has only been on the team for five years, and has spent most of that time trying to fit in with the others. So when you start copying little things he says specifically when interacting with him? Or unconciously settle into the couch in the exact way he does? He is soooo confused.
In Xtale, everyone was created for a specific purpose, with specific traits and ways of speaking. You just... were that way. There weren't even proper schools in most timelines to pass on knowledge to others, and he only really experienced that with Toriel in the final timeline... so it's weird seeing you changing so quickly. Taking on part of who they are and carrying it with you forever.
Is it because you love them so much? Or just how humans are?
Is it something he could do, too?
