This week we present a new edition of our beloved Famous Overtures series, here at Musica in Extenso. Let’s begin the 6th Edition of this series with a very beautiful overture by Gioachino Rossini. I’m sure that you will recognise some parts from this overture: it’s really a masterpiece.

Let’s continue our exclusive Famous Overtures Week, here at Musica in Extenso! Through the whole series, we shared some really fantastic masterpieces; today as well we prepared some jazzy melodies, an impressive symphonic overture from the famous american composer, George Gershwin.

The Cuban Overture - originally titled Rumba - it was a result of a two-week holiday which Gershwin took in Havana, Cuba in February 1932. Gershwin composed the piece in July and August 1932. The work under the title Rumba received its premiere at New York's now-demolished Lewisohn Stadium in 16 August 1932, as part of an all-Gershwin programme held by New York Philharmonic.

Famous Overtures was a successful series from it’s beginning, here at Musica in Extenso. Back in 2017, I started this series with so much joy and with a great opera overture from the famous composer, Richard Wagner. After four brilliant editions, today we continue this story with the splendid music of... wait for it... Aaron Copland. So, yes, again, american composer... why not?

Dear Followers, I’m really happy to announce the 5th Edition of Famous Overtures, here at Musica in Extenso! I think that, this series is really fitting to this amazing autumn mood and I hope, we will make a great transition for the next week’s Hallowee(k)n. 

For the first post, I prepared something very interesting. The Year 1812 Solemn Overture, festival overture in Eb major, Op. 49, popularly known as the 1812 Overture, is a concert overture written in 1880 by the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to commemorate the successful Russian defence against Napoleon's invading Grande Armée in 1812. The 15 minute overture is best known for its climactic volley of cannon fire, ringing chimes, and brass fanfare finale. It has also become a common accompaniment to fireworks displays on the United States' Independence Day. (source: Wikipedia)
