behold a sampling of extremely silly references to les mis canon in my valvert orchestra au, Philharmonic 😋😋:
1. Modern AU orchestra administrator Simplice cannot be completely free of nunnery:
Based on their emails, Javert gets the impression that Simplice is organized and honest almost to a fault, which says a lot coming from him. When Javert googled her, he learned that she has a musical theater background and, at one point, even had a small role in a tour of Sister Act, which is apparently a musical about nuns. How she ended up managing a symphony orchestra instead, Javert doesn’t know. But it’s definitely an upgrade from singing nuns as far as he’s concerned.
2. Valjean’s ugly yellow coat has been replaced by an ugly car held together by yellow duct tape hehe:
In the lot, just outside the entrance to the concert hall, there is a parking space with a sign in front of it that reads, “Reserved for Music Director.” Parked in the reserved space is the single most beat-up, awful-looking car Javert has ever seen — a fading brown four-door sedan, clearly over twenty years old, with one of the door handles held together with a horrendous shade of yellow duct tape that is somehow even uglier than the car.
3. Javert still being super authority-pilled but instead of the law, he’s really uptight about,,,classical music lmao:
“While I understand that conductors’ styles may vary and audiences' tastes may evolve, I believe that the ultimate authority, the ultimate genius, lies with the composer. That is what defines classical music. It is ‘classic’ for a reason, and it is our duty to keep it as such.”

tbh this whole thing started bc my choir sang Beethoven’s 9th symphony with this orchestra that’s conducted by a masc lesbian and i was in rehearsal being like “hmm,,,hot.” and then i was like this seems like a situation i should put valvert in, only much worse bc they’re conductor and concertmaster lmao
