Modern Times + Fair State Full Size Pony IPA (Picked up at the brewery in Point Loma). A 4 of 4. Lots of great grassy and pine hop notes with a moderate amount of fruit in the background. Nice herbal hop notes in the body, too, and quite bitter and dry throughout. A very nice change of pace from so many hazy IPAs these days, and incredibly well done.

Fair State (+ Modist Brewing) Chill State DDH Hazy IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. I’ve had some other great stuff from Fair State, and this is as good or better than those. A really bright nose with tons of tropical fruit and melon. More juicy, fruity qualities in the body and a relatively mild bitterness throughout the slightly creamy body. Finishes dry and not too sweet, and has great tropical complexity.

Fair State Brewing’s Giantsbane Imperial Stout (Picked up at a Weis in Conshohocken, PA). A 4 of 4. Smells rather lightly of roast and cocoa. The body, however, has a lot of complexity with more chocolate-like and coffee qualities as well as a touch of smoke. Nice creamy body, and finishes with some lingering coffee and roast on the palate. Quite excellent.

Fair State Brewing’s Strata Single Hop DDH Hazy IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. A pretty incredible hazy IPA with a nose that smells just like a mix of tropical/citrus juices, and has the body to back it up too. Decently acidic in the body and a firm bitterness lingers, but this is on the sweet side for much of the body. Quite drinkable, and quite refreshing -- given its juicy dominance, this would be great during the day.

Fair State Brewing’s Party Forward IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Great looking hazy body, and has a great tropical nose that is slightly more restrained than some. Lots of complexity, though, and the body delivers much the same with a really great balance between fruity sweetness and a firm, lingering bitterness. On the lighter side, and quite refreshing.

Fair State’s Pahlay’Ahlay Pale Ale (Picked up at McCaffrey’s in Blue Bell, PA). A 3 of 4. A great, balanced pale ale. Some nice bright tropical fruit and a juicy citrus behind it up front, and the body is much the same. Nice thicker body carries it all well -- this tastes quite a bit bigger than 4.8%. Refreshing, complex, and good.

Modern Times / Fair State Brewing’s Spirit Foul IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. A pretty incredible hazy IPA that has a big, pungent nose of mostly tropical fruit, but a little bit of pine/resin in the mix. The creamy body is very balanced with fruity sweetness up front and fades to a firm bitterness. Has all the best components, and nothing is out of place. Great stuff.
