mikalight + rain for the drabble challenge
Hi Ava! Ah, One of my OTPs...Thank you!
Triple Drabble Challenge: 506/300. Fail, but I regret nothing!đ
Mikami stood at the crosswalk, pulling the collar of his trench coat up against his neck. He picked a fine day to dismiss the thirty percent chance of rain in the forecast, regretting the decision to leave his umbrella at home. Removing his glasses, he wiped the drizzle from the lenses, frowning as he placed them in his coat pocket.
The signal changed and the herd of those that lived mundane lives, unremarkable in every regard except to themselves, began to cross the street, placing their trust, and in turn their lives, to a machine that could easily malfunction at any moment, but wasnât that what it was to be human?
He stepped off the curb, staring above the crowd when a name that felt familiar came towards him from the other direction, shoulder brushing his as their lives converged for only a moment.
Mikami turned to watch the young man continue on to his destination.
Light Yagami.
Hadnât Kiyomi mentioned his name before? No, she would never be so careless to let the name slip, but Mikami couldnât resist abandoning his plans to follow him, the persistent feeling haunting him that this was none other than the Kira he faithfully served.Â
Despite Lightâs quick pace against the impending storm, it took Mikami no time to close the distance between them, practically breathing down his neck, an uncomfortable closeness for strangers, but this was no stranger.
This was God. Â
Stopping short, Light turned toward his pursuer, a scowl only enhancing his handsome features. âCan I help you?â
Dumbstruck, Mikami muttered the only word his lips would relent. âKami?â
Lightâs eyes slightly widened before he spoke. âYou must be mistaken.â
âIâm Mikami.â It was then the clouds relented, a downpour drenching everything in its path, soaking both of them to the bone.
Light momentarily froze in place before yanking the man into the alleyway, shoving him up against the brick building, snarling, Â âHow did you find me? Did Takada--â
âNo, IâŚI donât know how I knewâŚI just did.â Mikami cast his eyes to the ground in deference, a tremble shaking his words. âI will never tell a soul.â
Placing two fingers beneath Mikamiâs chin, Light lifted his face, making it impossible to avoid his stare. âLook at me, Teru. Look at your God.â
Lightâs touch was gentler than he had anticipated. âForgive me, Kami, but I couldnât resist seeing you just onceâŚto be in your presenceâŚâ He stumbled over the words, raindrops dripping from the ends of his hair.
âPerhaps this is fate.â Light decreed, close enough that the words were hot against Teruâs skin. âYou have always been a loyal servant to me. If your intuition is that strong, maybe you are better suited to be at my side.â
Astonished, Mikami gushed his reverence. âThank you Kami. Thank you. I will serve you well. Anything to show my devotion.â
Light tipped his head, eyes dropping to Mikamiâs mouth before dragging up to once again meet his stare, a wicked grin tugging at his lips.Â
âAnything?â
